I'm predicting him to be a massive fail - as much as I don't want him to be one...

The Wind Raider Sale info/ scare tactics seem to indicate that...

I don't think we'll see him in the end. They'll do all the costing and blah blah blah and decide he's too much of a risk.

Or he'll be available for $150 for any customer who buys 5 Spectors.

He would have to be pretty amazin - better than the Wind Raider to sell at that price and I mean have the following:

    - The option to stand on two legs like a T-Rex and have his neck/head look in front
    - Have articulated jaws, wings, arms, wasit swivel, thigh articulation and ankle joints.
    - Have a really good paintjob - scales, shading, scratches, spots - the works
    - Attachable "fire" to plug into his mouth
    - removable helmet
    - a few book accessories
    - a weapon
    - articulated "swinging battle" tail

Looking at the Mattel Marshmallow Man, I'd say "Nope, not happening."
Although most of that would be awesome indeed...

Yeah I don't think he'll do all that well. I'm sure he'll sell out but it might be 3 day again. Though he will appeal to people like me who didn't buy the wind raider, so that may offset the 'wont buy due to price' people.

I agree - I think he'll end up being a huge rotocast lump with limited articulation. The price is high as is but living in the UK I've decided to stay away - the cost, shipping, customs fees etc would likely mean he ends up costing not far off $130 - and that's assuming he stays at an $80 retail price!

It is so exciting we will finally get a Granamyr figure. I cannot wait. I agree he should be sold in a light month and not in December but whenever he goes on sale, I'm buying 2. Thanks Mattel!

I think a lot of it will have to do with how he actually looks... if the Four Horsemen knock this baby out of the park, you can bet folks will cough up that $80-$100 in order to have him in their collections. Me? I've never been crazy about the character. I fear he's going to look very goofy and not have any sort of articulation (most of the time he sat half-submerged in a pit on the cartoon. How is that going to translate into a kick-ass toy? To me, he's about as exciting an idea as a Filmation-accurate Light Hope figure... or about as fun as my Tytus that keeps falling over because he has crappy points of articulation). So I'll wait and see. If he can be moved around a bit, comes with some cool Filmation-based accessories (like all the neat treasury-looking stuff lying about his lair), and even better- has a well-detailed cardboard diorama piece (similar to what they did for the GB's Stay Puft Marshmallow Man) that can be removed safely from the packaging (in other words, not something Granamyr is rubber-banded and taped to in the box) and it can be used as a kick-ass backdrop for the figures... then yeah, I can see myself buying one.
As for him being cancelled, you folks do realize he's already in the production stages, right? They've been saying for some time we'll see him at SDCC, and with that being only half a year away, I fully expect Granamyr to already be finished or at least in the "no turning back" tooling stages by this point.

LOL! Now you are just stirring the pot! Thought the variant green repaint should be a TRU exclusive. ha ha

For all the nitipicks we fans do, I would be shocked if he doesn't sell out. The Star Sisters sold out at $60, and if the 4H knock him out of the park, fans will get excited; Flavor Flav Viking helmet and all. I got to find some sunglasses and a clock necklace to fit him.

i honestly think you will be proved very wrong my fellow orger and i hell for sure will be buying him, knowing the 4 horsemen will do a kick ass scuplt job on him, filmation all the way. they know this is a HUGE important character and wont blow it

if mattel think that one of the top toys of 2011 was only "okay" when it sold out in 3 days, then i fear for the big dragon thing ...

mattel says so much stuff, just to sell their items.. thats how it works to sell more more more and more..

i wouldn't say i don't care about granamyr either (even though i actually don't care that much about the character itself) because if sales keep being "okay" and not meeting mattels projected expectations, it doesn't look good in the future ...
its fine.. so much toy drama being made up over nothing

I've been a fan of MOTU since I was a tyke, especially the cartoon, but strain to remember Granamyr other than another monster. Why is he so hugely important within the fiction?

Wasn't Granamyr the oldest living thing on Eternia? Plus he was a cool talking Dragon with a sweet helmet.

    Second oldest.

He was only in a small number of episodes (and as some will point out, a mini-comic) but he stands out for a couple reasons.

First off, he wasn't a monster based on what I'm thinking your definition is (and I may be wrong). He-Man fought lots of big beasts and creatures which would be considered "Wild Animals". Granamyr was an intelligent creature with his own thoughts and agenda. That alone doesn't make him important, I just wanted to point out the difference.

What makes him memorable - at least for me - is his first episode, which is very similar to the mini-comic story. He was one of the more complex characters of the series; wise without being banal. The voice acting played a lot into this, but when he spoke there was a pain in his voice from seeing centurys of violence and ignorance. He did not give his trust to He-Man based on power. He-Man earned his trust. All of this sounds very trite and gooey here, but even though I loved all of He-Man, that episode for me was one of the first times I felt a television program aimed at me wasn't patronizing me or playing down to me. Let's face it, we love those old episode now, but we can see the cornier parts. "The Dragon's Gift" felt much more mature. I remember being honestly moved by He-Man's sacrifice; not your typical "take me instead" type of sacrifice, but the sacrifice of losing a dear friend. In many ways, it dealt with some ideas the way the original Star Trek series did in '66 (see "Arena" for example).

So yeah, the episode was powerful to me. But also Granamyr was a deeper character I respected. His relationship to He-Man was complex. He was wise, but also flawed (primarily through his own jealousy) He didn't reward He-Man for passing a test. He rewarded He-Man for having a set of values that he stuck with, even when it wasn't convenient. Those choices, actually kind of ****** Granamyr off, but he hadn't seen that in a human in a long time and he had to give respect where it was due.

For me, Granamyr is summed up with the following dialog
    "My name is He-Man"
"I have heard your name whispered on the winds."
    "I am honored"
"I did not say I respected the name, merely that I had heard it."

For all the lip service we as fans, and the many "behind the scenes" specials do about He-Man being more thoughtful and deep than other cartoons, I can't think of anything or anyone that encapsulates that more that "The Dragon's Gift" and Granamyr. He's essential - to me - to what made me love the Filmation show, and Masters of the Universe itself. It elevated it from Barbarian vs. Skull Man to something more.

    ^ This.

I won't be purchasing it. I honestly wasn't aware there was a demand for Grany AT ALL until they announced they were making him. Unless they made a much lower production run than the Wind Raider, I don't see him selling out until a week or so into the sale at the earliest. I'd love to be proven wrong on this, but we'll see.

I must adjust my position on this dragon, I feel kind of foolish for not making the connection sooner. I have been wanting to buy a Fin Fang Foom to go with my MOTUC display for a long time. He sells for $80-$125 almost every time. Considering this, I feel that there is the possibility that Granyamyr may do OK, time will tell.

Wow. Thanks for all the info. I've always had a deeper appreciation for He-man and particularly the show. I hadn't seen any episodes for a very long time until this x-mas. On some weird channel at my mom's, there was a two hour block and I watched it all, very happily

I'll check out The Dragon's Gift ASAP.

Just a quick question.....Granamyr was only in Filmation and the Mini Comic???....right? Because if so wouldn't he be a main attraction only to Filmation & MC fans, that actually care about the few episodes he popped in on? I for one will not be dishing that kind of money out for one toy, unless he flew around the room and blew fire at my curtains. But for a potentially hollow molded, possibly no better articulated than Tytus he would not be worth it in my book.

Besides I'd rather have more POP girls or the missing vintage figures come out...to me honestly he's more a waste than SMAA, simply because of the resources used to sculpt, paint and prototype him out, then to make the samples and spend time seeing if this blah works better than this blah, then finally making him. Only to possibly not sell that well, where regular figures could have been made instead.

But don't forget with the price increases, he will be $88, not the original projected $80, that is if they don't cost him higher, plus the possible $15+ shipping, along with whatever else comes out in December.

Well, I'll do my part and buy one (barring catastrophe, that is).

I really won't mind if he's simply in a sittnig position, sculpted to look like the mini-comic (albeit RED, gosh darnit!). Books and some treasure would be excellent.
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I don't think I could be that nice even if you paid me. If we ever give out awards for "forum member of the month", Uki gets my vote. -Mr. Shokoti

Thing about it is there are *more* vehicles to be had. Even if Granamyr *doesn't* do well, it's too late. We've already got him. What are they going to compare doing a second large "creature" for and with? In other words they can't say, "well, we're never going to do another one!" Another what? Large dragon? Ok... no skin off our backs.

Sure, I don't want to see him tank, but if it happens, not to sound like an opportunist, but we'll already have him.

They can re- use his dragon body for other dragons or a green variant. Wind Raider cannot be re-used.
