I very much like it. Nice piece of concept art with a good character pose. I especially like the way the head points downwards at an angle yet the eyes are looking straight at you! It helps draw you to the person and says she means business!

Its a good piece and like others mention its pretty close, but the hair is a bit long - I think I prefer the hair on this version tbh.

Pop Mhan clarified that it's not really an un-used concept-art, but a character-study after the fact.

The term concept art may be misleading since this is more of a character study because I based the drawing off of the Despara one-shot, hence the brown body suit instead of the gray. I thought it was brown/brick colored. I call it concept art because I drew it in a more "concept-y" style - quick sketch and rendered in a painty way. This character study was more to see what she'd look like with longer hair as if she'd left Hordak for a little while and on her own. That's the approach I went with at least. Who knows what awesomeness Keith actually has in store for her in the book.

This is a character study I did for Mattel before starting the He-man Ongoing comic series. It's based off of the Despara One-shot, hence the brown/brick color of the jump suit/body armor when it's actually supposed to be gray. The hair is a little longer as well. In fact, I kept forgetting to draw her with close cropped hair in the book and had to go back and redraw panels here and there because I drew her with this hair length. hahaha. Sometimes you just get into a rhythm of busting out pages and have a predetermined image in your mind of what the character is supposed to look like and you just draw it without thinking. Such is life...

I like Despera better with some shag to her hair. Something about her head being shaved and the black marks under her eyes just make her look like she's trying out for the football team or something. Plus, I won't lie, I like the resemblance to Billie Jean on that VHS box... LOL.
His He-Man art here is WAAAAAY better than anything I've seen in the DC Comics thus far, so it's really too bad this weren't "the look" from here on out.

I used to really liek Pop Mahn back in his Spyboy comic days. I dunno what happened to him in the years since that. I think his art has become so dull.

I for one LOVE those He-man concepts! If he looked like this in the DC comic or in the future live-action movie I'd be very happy. I always like the idea of He-man in a half cloak/cape thingy.

Heh, I agree with most of you. I like the shaggy hair on Despara and while I don't LOVE He-Man and Teela's looks here, they are a heck of a lot better that what they ultimately went with.

Great concepts. The Despara one is pretty much the same thing to me. I quite like the Teela and He-man designs, especially the caped He-man. Really interesting designs. Teela's looks are really good there too, I don't know why they weren't used instead. I would love to see Teela with the armour design on the left, but with the hiarstyle of the design on the right. Maybe if these designs were used for Teela they might have sidestepped the criticisms of Teela's current costume, though I'm not too confident because it still shows more flesh than her Filmation look and there will probably always be those willing to jump on anything different as being evil.

Very cool design, though I too wish she would have long hair. But hey, change can be good right?
