Pfff! Ha. Never! Frankly, I could never stand Madonna. Even when I was a youngster in the 80s, I didn't like her.

I concede that she is beloved by many ardent fans. I just personally am not into her music or public persona.
    Penny Dreadful!!!

Madonna has made a stand for equal and civil rights for women, gays, and people of color. She shed light on global adoption.

She is humanitarian who dosen't preach...but just does!!

I might agree except for the "scary arms and chest part" which rings of a personal attack. As-well-as the "no photoshop on stage" comment.

    Onstage...no photoshop!
Again, at 53...looks WAY better than most 30something women. (I get the hate).

Some folks just don't like her music. Lots of people I can't stand have done great things, it's all a matter of taste. As a lifetime Madonna fan, I've stopped trying to explain her to people back in the '90s... LOL. You either like her, or you don't.

I immediately thought of She-Ra when Madonna stepped out with her headdress. The skirt reminded me of Xena.

The being covered up has nothing to do with her age. The woman has a body that puts a women your age to shame! If she would have worn something like she would on tour. People would have been up in arms over her choice of dress. They would have comments about her being sexual and how that is inappropriate for the Super Bowl. And sadly, some are still doing it! Lambasting her performance saying how bad it was. The problem is when you a woman like Madonna. It doesn't matter what she does. She will still be criticized for it and saying it was bad!

Sorry, but I stand my comment, she is not geriatric but she was dressed like it. The designer should have been ripped one. The neckline all the way up to the chin? Really? Some rhinestones sewn on like a bedazzle tunic? Arms and hands always covered? The top looked like it's something my Aunt would wear... but only if made of valor.

A women shows her age in her hands and chest. Madonna's designer made it a point to cover herself up in a way to hide that. She is 53, not 20 but her lighting and costume in her latest video and album art alludes that she still looks 20. She doesn't. Add to that M.I.A and Nicki Minaj thrown into the mix to keep up the illusion she's 20 something and can hang with them? Insulting. A real women does not cling to such a shallow act.

She's a freaking Diva! She set fashion trends. She's freaking Madonna! And yet here she is covered like she's some senior from Miami?

Poor, poor Madonna. Will she ever survive these reviews and our disapproval of her act, her jewels or her attire? (Just joking, Judith.)

Considering her net worth is $650 million, roughly two-thirds of a billion dollars -- http://www.celebritynetworth.com/ric...nna-net-worth/ (and please don't anyone point out that with another $16 million dollars she'll have attained a net worth equal to the Devil's number) -- I'm guessing she has the comfort to age well -- kind of like a 1929 bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild -- and the thick skin to do whatever she wishes to do without concern about anyone's opinion.

Wow - that Britney video is gaudy. The set is just really chaotic and a bit much. And you can't hear Brit singing, or even the backing track much. Not that I'm trying to turn this into a Brit vs Madge thread, but I think the Superbowl was very nicely choreographed and didn't look tacky.

Love her or hate her, apparently Madonna was the highest rated portion of the Super Bowl last night:

    http://gawker.com/5882627/madonnas-h...the-super-bowl

Madonna's 10-minute halftime spectacle averaged a 48.3 rating while the game itself averaged a 47.8 rating.

Hey, that's great and cool of her to do that. It's good to have someone that famous standing up for good causes. I still think her music kinda blows.

Did I say anything about her looks? I was defending Judith who was being accused of being harsh with regard to Madonna's outfit. I could care less about how Madonna looks. She could be 85 and dress in a thong for all I care. I'm talking strictly about her music and her persona as a performer. I just don't dig her tunes or her singing voice and I think she gets more credit than she deserves when it comes to her "shocking and provocative" image. I feel the same way about Lady Gaga BTW. Siouxsie Sioux and Wendy O Williams and other REAL rock 'n' rollers were far more shocking and provocative well before Madonna and Lady Caca came along. Madonna and her illegitimate offspring Gaga adopt the rock 'n' roll imagery while plying overproduced pop music to a mainstream audience. And Madonna has copped a lot of stuff from other people. She used to shop at Exene Cervenka's store and co-opted Exene's look back then, and did the same with Debbie Harry's look too IIRC. She also lost a plagiarism case against Belgian songwriter Salvatore Acquaviva for stealing one of his songs. Sorry, just not a fan. I even felt that way as a kid in the 80s. I remember arguing with an obsessed Madonna fan in my class because I thought Cyndi Lauper was WAY cooler than Madonna. And I still think so BTW!

My sister is a fan of hers, and we've had disagreements about Madonna. However, I think we both heartily agree that Janis Joplin rocks so massively that it negates any conflicting views we have about Madonna's music.

I say take all that and put it into something productive and "get your own".
I think people who do are far less full of judgement...too busy doing their thing rather than worrying about someone elses.
I shouldn't have used the word judgemental since it implies just the negative aspects of it, I should have also focused more no the sizing up aspect. Guys do the same thing, I could take him in a fight, I could beat him in Street Fighter 4 super ultra edition, I could play guitar better then him, etc etc. So I do apologize that for my words coming off harsher then I intended.

I did overhead the other day ladies saying they wish they had gone with someone else, but ironically it basically comparatively the same but male.

I also find it interesting the reason we have gotten a lot of older stars is because of the Janet Jackson thing a few years back now, and to tone down the sexuality. At one point the same issues would have been of concern with Madonna, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Prince.

For people who are criticizing Madonna's performance at the Superbowl, this Britney video is a perfect comparison as to how much energy Madonna puts into her performances. Seriously, Britney is half her age and her performance pales to what we saw Madonna do last night. Britney's "Strut, strut, wiggle, wiggle, strut" routine looks absolutely amateurish in comparison.

While this was not my favorite performance by Madonna, you've got to give her credit for putting on a pretty spectacular show.

Val's right, grasping at straws is pretty much dead on. Or, you could say, grasping at straws like a drowning man grasping for air.

This was pure Elizabeth Taylor, rest in peace, as Cleopatra. With the man-slaves/servants pulling her along it is straight out of the 1963 epic. As famous a scene as the chariot race in Ben Hur, any number of scenes of Scarlet in Gone With The Wind, up to Luke Skywalker watching the suns set in Star Wars.

We just need Bob Uecker going "Just a bit outside." This is so far off from She-Ra it's almost comical. Like when Principal Skinner was telling Apu about his idea for a new book called Timmy and the Clone-a-saurus where scientist use fossils to create an island full of dinosaurs as an amusement park. Of course Apu goes off on Skinner telling him how wrong he is and asks "What were you thinking?"

    Maybe it's just wishful thinking.

As for the half-time show itself, after last year's show with the underwhelming Black Eyed Peas it was nice to see them get back on pace with a true legend like Madonna. After having The Who, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springstenn and Prince all in the past few years having Madonna seemed more suited for the half-time show. I loved the performance. It was great seeing Madonna in action again.

Madonna herself has said a number of times...she's an entertainer. She knows she dosen't have the best voice. That's why she goes to great lengths to put on killer acts and does such crazy things. I love love love her...did I mention that yet.

LOL I think there was a HUGE concern with the NFL (but money talks in the end) about bringing in Madonna...I have no doubt in my mind they had one hell of a contract with. FTC fines, NFL fines, etc. etc. etc. ....

Hold the phone, Britney can sing?

I understand Madonna over her showmanship and all, But I don't think she would be equal to us Quality Listener (AAA, AAR) since her music is pretty predictable by playing 2 or 3 chords repeat over and over again with the bubblegum twist for quarter of a century.

Don't you feel sour if you taste the same bubblegum since Ohio Express booming the charts?

I didn't have privilege to watch it live but.... Does LMFAO wiggle in front of the camera? I think Janet would be pretty mad if they do!
