Welcome to the MOTUC Popularity Polls 2012 Countdown!
As ardent followers of the He-Man.Org MOTUC Polls forum know, I've been running some polls to look at unreleased and (to a lesser degree) recently revealed characters' popularity. This is something I did between 2010-2011 as well and the results of the last countdown can be found here. The polls have now all closed.
Much was the same as the time before:
- Each poll had 100 voters to give the characters in the polls an equal chance at the same number of votes. Of course, not all the voters were the same each time because that would have been an impossible task!Only one poll exceeded 100 (yes, I kept a close eye on everything that was going on) and so I'll deduct one vote for each character in this round to make it an even hundred.
- All characters who were included last time were included again (including all individual characters from the separate toylines). This will give us the chance to see whether their popularity is greater, lesser or more or less the same. There are some very interesting examples!
There are a few subtle differences:
- This time a greater selection of Filmation characters were included in the polls, as they are now available to be made in MOTUC. It's interesting in particular to watch some of these characters in the countdown.
- Ditto with several popular mini-comic characters and some from other media (Golden Books, UK comics and others).
- The Star Sisters are counted as one entry as opposed to three separate entries like last time.
Some 138 individual characters appear in the polls in 58 positions (some are tied) and include figures revealed from Snout Spout to Horde Prime. No variants are included, but the first three 30th anniversary figures are. There are also a couple of potential 'oversized' characters included. None of the characters received the full 100 votes.
The polls were not intended to give an exact idea of a character's presumed popularity, but do give a ballpark figure as to how much they are anticipated by the He-Man.Org community (which represents a vast array of pre-Filmation, MOTU, POP, NA, 200x and of course MOTUC fans). Thank you to everyone who voted - the regulars and the not-so-regulars - all of your votes were equally as important and hopefully this countdown will give Mattel some idea of how popular certain characters are.![]()
So, last time it was the Horde Trooper who emerged as the surprise winner! Can he retain his title or will someone else steal his crown? Stay tuned and we'll start the countdown soon!
I'd love your comments/feedback as we go along - and any predictions would be interesting too!![]()
Any guesses on who'll be first out?

I guess the number one will be Spikor.
Dear Scorpia, please include Starchild the next time.![]()
Hoove, maybe Quake, possibly Hunga if she was on it (I forget).
Ask not for whom MOTUC is made, it's made for thee.
I'm confused. Where is the poll? Can I vote in it and how?

I really enjoyed this results countdown last time, in fact it was one of my favourite threads on the org ever, so am looking forward to it again this year.
First out I'll guess The Scientists of Primus or Sortech.
For number one I'll guess Spikor or Horder Trooper again. Last year I was surprised how low Spikor was.

bribri4u is right - Yukkers and the Warrior in Yellow weren't included. I couldn't include everyone so there will surely be some complaints (though probably not about Yukkers!). One I did miss that I feel really bad about is General Tataran... He's actually one of the Filmation MOTU characters I really want to see but he's not mentioned much on the forums. So I'm kicking myself because I think he'd rock our socks off...![]()
If there is a next time, I'll be sure to include her!Sadly though, The Starchild isn't regarded as the best He-Man episode...
Loving the guesses slackrguy, but I think you'll be surprised...especially at one of those...![]()
Glad you've enjoyed it 13977, you've been a regular poster and I always enjoy your comments (even if you're not as pro-POP as I'd like).![]()
I'll get to the first lot tomorrow, but for now I'm signing off as am completely pooped after a long day! Stay tuned!![]()
Most-wanted MOTUC: Madame Razz and Broom - Scorpia - Granita - Hunga the Harpy - Spinnerella - Melaktha - Vultak - Dylamug - Crita
Agreed I would have really like to seen General Tataran and Sprag, Sprocker, and Spritina included in the polls especially after Emiliano's awesome MOTUC visions of the four of them. I also would've liked to seen Drissi, Caz, Might Bite, Starchild, Odiphus, and Kol-Dar included. That's enough characters for one more poll.

Ah, no can do bribri4u. I'm spent! I agree there are some great characters in there but everything's finished and compiled. It's been a marathon, but we're nearly at the finish line!![]()

#58 - The Scientists of Primus (19/100 votes)
Last time: #53 (30/100 votes)
...and bribri4u is correct! In fact, so was 13977. The aquisition of cartoon rights to make these characters hasn't whipped up a storm of interest in these guys. In fact, it's very difficult to find an image on Google of them all together! The day this four-pack is ever made is the day all MOTUC collectors are hailing the days of the Star Sisters as MOTUC's Golden Age (TM). I wonder if we'll ever see them released? The turkeys for this countdown have even slipped compared to last year's results. Last year's grand turkey was Sortech...and look who's coming round the corner!?

#57= - Sortech (25/100 votes)
Last time: #54 (29/100 votes)
As if by magic, here comes Sortech! Swapping places with the Scientists but also receiving fewer votes than before, Sortech was an old dude that supposedly had the power to switch off all machines on Eternia in 200x's Of Machines and Men. Personally, I didn't mind the story - what I objected to was the rampant overuse of some horrible He-Man and Skeletor variants, although I do agree giving a little old man so much power was an odd choice of plot device - especially for Michael Halperin. Anyhoo.
NEW ENTRY! #57= - The Mighty Spector (25/100 votes)
Last time: N/A
The contraversial 30th anniversary figure that is the Mighty Spector lands in joint 57th position. I like the idea of the 30th anniversary line and I think Scott gets a hard time sometimes. I try to come back to this: with no other brand manager would we have ever seen a Shadow Weaver figure or had the possibility of seeing others. So I try to look at the positives - having him in charge and as a fan has undoubtedly spurred the line on. However, the inclusion of the Mighty Spector hasn't exactly set the fan community alight. Time will tell if he's a success and welcomed into the mythos.
So far, so good with the guesses people, keep them coming - who will be next! No-one's mentioned the character...yet...![]()

MOTUC Most Wanted: Skeletor's Robot Knights, Two-Bad, Horde Troopers, Modulok, Sssqueeze, Tung Lashor, Stridor, Night Stalker, the Battle Ram, and a true, alternate head for Wun-Dar (since he's a "different" character)!
Didn't vote for any of these guys.
No surprise with the Scientists and Sortech then. I doubt we'll see the Scientists in the line as they would probably be four 100% new sculpts and the general consensus on them is quite well known, saying that their picture was on the Matty presentation when the Jetlag rights were announced so who knows.
I didn't vote for Sortech who IMO was from one of the weakest MYP episodes, but if I had to choose one, I'd take him over the Scientists any dayNow I'm wondering what a Classicized version of Sortech might look like, might be pretty sweet even if I don't like the character.
The Mighty Spector, oh dear.
I'm not sure who to guess for next. You put a couple of Filmation characters in this time that I didn't know so I'm thinking one of them, but can't say which one as I've forgotten them again![]()
Vintage figure wise, same as last time Twistoid or Butthead will be first out.

A bit late with my response for the bottom feeders, but yeah, there was no doubt in my mind it was the Scientists.
As for the top, who knows? I do think it's not the Horde Trooper though.

I'm beginning to wonder who did...is anyone man enough to admit it?!
The public venom aimed at the poor 'NA Scientists' saddens me.I'd wager a bet that they appeared in more episodes than Crita...and yes, she's COOL (with capital letters, obv) but the Scientists were main players in the NA series. I'd love to see them released one day, personally - but think I'll have a long wait!

#56 - Stingrad (26/100 votes)
Last time: #46 (40/100 votes)
A bit of a drop for Stingrad. Last time we did the polls we'd barely received Buzz-Off and maybe hardcore fans were clamouring for an accompanying Stingrad? Well, not so much any more apparently. I've always thought a character like Stingrad could be done as a Power-Con exclusive, as he'd be an easy repaint of an existing mould - and hence Mattel wouldn't have to spend much money on him (the same goes for Ceratus and perhaps Kodak Ungol). The character doesn't excite me much, but is obviously demanded by some.
NEW ENTRY! #55= - Josh (29/100 votes)
Last time: N/A
Our first POP-related character is Josh, Bow bystanding friend from a POP minicomic. Other males from the Filmation cartoon seem more popular - Sea Hawk especially, along with General Sunder and the Red Knight (all of whom are still to come), so it begs the question: with more male Rebellion supporters now avilable to MOTUC, is there any need for a character who looks like a background villager with little to say or do? I hear he does a mean potato salad...
#55= - The ABC Giants (29/100 votes)
Last time: #51 (33/100 votes)
Another predictable 'bottom feeder' (thanks again, Hordaiquiri!), the ABC Giants would require three oversized slots (there'll be no three-pack love for these guys). As a result, fans will either have to wait at least three years to complete the ranks or (and which is more likely) a *very* long time before we see them in MOTUC. I'm not fussed and am expecting Procrustus or Colossor in the giant-stakes first.

Most-wanted MOTUC: Madame Razz and Broom - Scorpia - Granita - Hunga the Harpy - Spinnerella - Melaktha - Vultak - Dylamug - Crita
I'm not surprised to see the NA scientists, Spector and Josh at the bottom of the barrel. However, I notice I didn't realize the ABC giants were so low on people's expectations. I thought more fans wanted to be able to have the entire 200x council of evil...
. . . and I didn't vote for any of those, either.

LOL. You're welcome! Even more fitting that you use it to describe the Giants, who I detest more than the Scientists.#55= - The ABC Giants (29/100 votes)
Another predictable 'bottom feeder' (thanks again, Hordaiquiri!)
I don't see them as characters. They are a plot device, designed to give He-Man something humongous to fight, a role later filled by Serpos. At least Serpos is interesting and has some mythology behind him.
MOTUC wants: Modulok, Entrapta, Scorpia, Madame Razz, Sea Hawk, Spinnerella, Double Trouble, Glimmer, Angella, Sweet Bee, Mermista, Flutterina, Perfuma, Peekablue, Kowl, Loo-Kee, Huntara, Two-Bad, Extendar, Tung Lashor, Sssqueeze, Kayo, Darius, Drissi, Hydron, Sebrian, Flogg, Crita, Hoove, Staghorn, Crystoll, Quakke, Chef Allen

I'm a little surprised Stingrad has dropped this low. I'd buy him but I hope he's more then just Buzz-Off with a new head. Maybe give some armor (like the brown chest and shoulder pads) and a few weapons. I'd love them to include a 200x head for Buzz-Off as a second head but I don't see that happening. Here's a few ideas for weapons he could have:

I have zero interest in Josh, possibly my least wanted POP character.
The ABC Giants are three expensive figures I really don't want. Possibly my least wanted MYP characters, I'd take Sortech over them.

NEW ENTRY! #54 - King Micah (31/100 votes)
Last time: N/A
King Micah is our first Filmation entry. Included as Glimmer's father and Angella's husband, I never felt Micah's role was made important enough. His episode is a fairly landmark one, but to have him escape Horde World only to return five minutes later to free his people is a gallant move, but one that could have provided intereting story possibilities for the series. Of course, we know the classic series wasn't designed with needle-sharp continuity in mind, so I can kind of let that one go. For the record, I *don't* think Micah is the Red Knight. Angella would know her husband's voice. BUT, in his episode, Micah had three distinct looks, which is some achievement - 'flashback Micah', 'King Micah' and my personal favourite, 'Slave Micah'.
NEW ENTRY! #53 - Songster (32/100 votes)
Last time: N/A
From the Masters of the Universe Power Tour comes Songster, Heroic Master of, erm, Song! I don't know much about this obscure fella, but I presume he was either a support act for the main players (He-Man and She-Ra, of course) or a narrator of sorts that steered the show. Any tidbits of information would be grand. I wonder if he'd have any chance at being made in the line - if people don't warm to most of the obscure NA characters, I can't see Mattel releasing this guy in a hurry (unless Toyguru *really* wants to surprise us...because revealing Songster at SDCC would be something *nobody* could predict!!!).
#52 - King Taureus (33/100 votes)
Last time: #48 (37/100)
MYP's He-Man series had its fair share of background characters, but passionate He-Fans still demand them. King Taureus - who didn't even speak a word, as far as I remember - is proof of that, although he is still pretty low down with a 33% want-rating. Not dissimilar from last year's tally, although some way behind some of the more popular MYP characters. I think he has a neat design and if new media was introduced, I'd prefer Mattel to explore some of these lesser-known characters and expand on their backgrounds than introducing loads of newbies.
