Sorry, I know I'm not the sharpest tack in the box. But when you have people like Val question him? Why can't people just go "WHAT?" and question his official comments without trying to answer for him?

What, exactly, are the statements that you think are contradictory? I'm not trying to "make excuses" I just don't see what you think is contradictory. TG can speak for himself about whatever he likes, but it just seems to me, despite your protestations, that you are going off half-cocked without actually thinking about what you are saying. And I have every bit of respect for Val but it doesn't mean he's not misunderstanding too.

But it seems very obvious to me that he's saying Mattel ORIGINALLY wanted to go with the He-Ro crotch. Then Johns said he wanted the Man-E-Faces crotch. THEN, more recently Johns said he now wanted a belt. These statements are not contradictory in any fashion if you apply any amount of logic. Which is what I was (in a friendly, non-confrontational way I thought) trying to explain with the time line.

Just because Johns wants a red belt now doesn't mean he wants He-Ro's particular crotch piece. We don't know WHY he didn't originally want He-Ro's crotch. It could be that he felt, as some fans have, that it was just too detailed compared to the rest of the figure. We don't know.

But if, as you say, I should not assume this is the sequence of events (as logical and obvious as it may seem to me) then you should not assume that TG is making contradictory statements. I have no dog in this fight. If you want to keep going on about it that's fine, but my only intention was to help avoid people (possibly) looking silly as they went off about two statements being contradictory when we have zero reason to believe they are.

In fact, knowing what we know about the creation of the Johns figure (that he was a creation from when he was a kid and that Mattel took this design and adapted it to be a mix of new and re-used parts) the scenario I outlined seems fairly straightforward. Anyway, feel free to believe whatever you believe. I could be wrong, and I really have no interest in trying to convince you otherwise. It's just something to think about.

It's an interesting manip! I just think it makes him look a bit more generic, in a strange way. I do like that it adds more details to him, but I miss the crystal in the front, as it makes sense if he's dealing with lasers that he'd have some sort of "focusing" crystal. Of the two I like the one with more silver on it.

YES! and I actually like the original design but this does look better. I prefer the colors on the right but I don't like the yellow plume...still like the red one. This is awesome though.

I think you might be confused about the timeline. I believe what happened was:

A.) Geoff Johns shows character design from childhood.
B.) Mattel comes back with proposed sculpt, which includes the usage of the He-Ro crotch piece.
C.) Geoff Johns says he'd rather have the Man-E crotch.
D.) Mattel produces proto with that crotch.
E.) Geoff Johns sees it and thinks it's too much blue, and proposes a different crotch with a belt (that can be painted red) to break up the blue.
F.) Pixel Dan interviews ToyGuru. ToyGuru mentions (E.) to him and says they are looking into it. NONE Of us know which mystery crotch this might be. But it probably isn't the He-Ro one that GJ rejected way back when.
G.) JonWes does photoshop of He-Ro crotch on figure.
H.) ToyGuru mentions that they originally wanted to go with that (as in step B)
I.) People get confused
J.) JonWes gets uncomfortable typing the word crotch over and over.

That was my exact read of events, too. Seemed pretty clear to me.

You are entitled to your opinion, but for me....

To ruin a character, there needs to be a previous iteration of the character that was widely accepted. There was no Lazer-Lot (sp?) so there is no harm done. I love Extendar, too, but one isn't replacing another. To me, it's like hating Lizard Man because there is Whiplash. And I like an Eternia that has Draego-Man and Granamyr.

The He-Ro pelvic armor has merit, but again, it's Geoff's call. I would like to see some silver or even gold to break up the blue.

If anything, that toy brings us one big step closer to General Sunder.

Scott said one thing. Then changed the whole story! Which is not the first time he has done this! And again the statement is contradictory! He claimed Geoff wants a red belt on the figure. Personally I could care less about the origin of the figure itself. When he is released. He will be made into Superman when I get him! But again, I am only questioning Scott's flip flop answers.

Add in the crotch and we're getting awfully close to repaint territory. I'm not a big fan of the Man-E-Faces crotch either though because SO many characters are starting to use it, that it's becoming a bit insane in my opinion. Snout Spout or Icarius' might work really well (and no one else uses them). I think King Hiss' would look great (kind of chainmaille like), but it won't work because of how it was made.

I'll throw together a crappy photoshop later of some small paint changes and a new crotch. I'm currently working on another project.

I wouldn't mind seeing Bow's or Snout Spouts used. But Hsss sounds like it would work best due to it looking like chainmaille.

He was wrong Guru.....He-Ro Crotch is better.

If he had the crotch He-ro Croth piece I would feel more like you do about SLL.

He's my super quick photoshop! Sorry for the poor job, but it gives you an idea.

My changes:

- black visor (makes him more mysterious)
- silver mouth guard (helps make him less 200X Roboto)
- silver "rib" paint details on his armour
- Snout Spout's undies with red belt (NOT in rubber this time...this is why the belt paint came off most SP figures!)
- silver detailing on boots



I actually did FOUR different manipulations (2 with Flipshot's in different colours, 1 with Snout Sout's and 1 with King Hiss'). I posted this one because I liked it best. Also, King Hiss' won't work because his crotch is the ENTIRE lower torso in rigid plastic (which limited Hiss' leg movements dramatically). A regular torso cannot connect to the Hiss crotch either. :S

The Snout Spout belt works better than I would have thought with his symbol. Of course, I like the rest of the colors on the actual figure. But that loin area might work. (Note to self, loin area doesn't sound any better than crotch.)

Anyway, I wonder if it could be cast in a different plastic though? Or does that fall into the same situation as M-A-A's mace where it's part of a specific mold? I actually didn't notice any problem with it for Snout Spout though.

in a GEORG VS DRAGON way I can see how Geoff thought a heroic Knight character being released the same year as a Dragon character would work. Sir Lazer Lot vs. the Draego-Man. His colours are still of but it would be good to see both of these as adversaries in the bios. I would forgive a great deal!

I just realized you could make some very cool weapons for Sir Laser-Lot with the Spy Monkey Bloodlust set! I think it would go well with him.
