I completely agree with this post. Except I'm buying them. And if want TMS now.Originally Posted by tmc1984:2946965
So considering TMS and SLL as a pair, isn't it clear the new rule should be:
No Childhood Design Concepts Allowed

I don't see how he's all that "MotU-ish".
Especially his head and its lack of personality.
How many fully-helmeted characters did the vintage line have?
When you have a buck line, like it or not there's automatically a disproportionate focus on the head.
So there's a reliance on every new head to "sell" each character almost singlehandedly.
If the head is blah, so goes the rest of the figure.
I think he's decent. The concept is solid as is the sculpt. I am not a fan of the colors though...to primary. By his sculpt I would group him with NA, but because of his colors, I may assign him to POP... and somehow change his name...the name is what really grates me...Sir Laser-Lot--maybe SLAYSER

I'm really disappointed... I was hoping for something awesome and we get this... this... Roboto wannabe... I'll go take my Draego-Man and Spector and throw this with Photog into a dark corner...
I quite like him. Nice 80s retro look. I even like Spector in the pics from toyfare. It looks as if the anniversary line has one figure for each decade. Laserlot for the 80s, Spector for the 90s and DragoMan for 2000s.

That is that comic guys figure....wow I don't know about the guy, but doing comics, I seriously expected more than it to look just as plain and uninteresting as Spector, another fail in my eyes. The 30th is looking pretty lame if you ask me, 4 out of 6 so far, and 1 of those 4 is the only decent looking one, and that's because he looks like he could eat the other 3, or at least set them on fire.
Recent....Foe Men, Karatti & Spirit of Hordak
Coming....
Wanted....Filmation Hordak & Clawful, Seahawk, Castaspella, Batros & Icer
Considering....Mosquitor, Leech
Needed....Dragstor, Mantenna,Two Bad & Attack Trak

This is how he came to be:
TG: Hey Geoff, Everyone seems to hate my Mighty Spector figure.
Geoff: Sorry to hear that Scott.
TG: That's alright. Hey, could you do me a favor?
Geoff: Sure, anything for you.
TG: Whatever your design idea is for your figure, could you maybe downplay it a little? If your design looks as bad as mine, maybe mine won't catch so much flack.
Geoff: Good Idea man! I'll make sure my design looks worse than yours.
TG: Cool! I really appreciate that.
As much as I dislike tms, this looks much better.
A few tweaks to his colour scheme and some furries...

I think what probably happened is that Mattel was too cheap to pay talent, realized somehow that Geoff had entered something as a child, realized he had "star power" in the industry, and decided to produce it based solely on already owning the rights. I doubt Geoff CHOSE to use this design. But it is clear that he was a fan of Cobra as a child.
The more I look at this fig the more it grows on me because of its Filmation vibe... still needs some colour pallette adjustments though...

Wow, this guy sucks so bad.......makes Spector look good.
Time to cancel the debit card for the 30th Sub.
Neutral Forest Spirit
This figure doesn't look MOTU to me. Just like TMS. IMO it's MOTU, not a comic book based super hero line, and that's the only place I could see these two figures fitting in. The mix of sorcery and technology with a bit of barbaric fantasy that is MOTU to me isn't present in these figures at all. Imagine either TMS or SLL appearing in any of the first four mini-comics. They wouldn't work there, and they don't work here either. I'll get them because I'm a completist, but even I'm starting to regret the 30th sub. If it's possible to influence the remaining two 30th anniversary figures, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Mattel - no more comic book style super hero figures for MOTU!!!! This is NOT what MOTU is about!!!
Maybe someone here can do a bad a55 custom of him to look like She-Ra's "Red Knight".
IMHO, NONE of the 30th anniversary figures are worth much. Perhaps only Photog, as a curiosity item with a decades-old history behind him, and maybe even design-wise.
Draego Man looks cool but does NOT feel like a genuine MOTU character, not even by 200x standards. Way too much going on on him, very busy and unfocused design.
Spector is the worst of all and this Sir Laser Guy just barely surpasses him, because he has a cape. What a waste of work, time, money, plastic and "slots", if you ask me.
2012 is so far a very confusing and dilluted year for MOTU and it should be the opposite: strong, focused, and iconic.

=)
I don't mind Sir Laser Lot, although the name is terrible. Surely La-Zor should have been considered?
I'm not sure I like the figure enough to hand over $30.00, but out of all the 30th Anniversary reveals, this one is definitely my favourite and it seems to fit the MOTUC universe the best (although Draego-Man is another great figure).
