Vintage MOTU variations

Does anyone know where I can find information about all the different MOTU figure and playset variations, like the "round back" Two Bad vs the "flat back", half boot Skeletor, light brown Grizzlor vs dark Grizzlor etc.?
What I'm looking for is mainly an archive or something similar, preferably not random discussions.

Well you have already listed most of the variations I know of but maybe together we can piece together a list with help from some of the more knowledgeable members. Here is what I could find. I also included same mold weapons different colors from other characters in case someone tried to say that was a variation.

Btw, didn't Mekaneck come with a orange/salmon colored armor as well?
Also, have you ever heard of or seen a brown spear in the same mold as King Randor's?

Orange Mekaneck armor is from Stinkor. I have never seen a brown King Randor spear however I have seen several gold spears that when photographed appear brown.

Mekaneck's orange armor is a different orange then stinkor's armor.

Also I have a screech with pink paint on it's head.

@Amra - I took a couple of pictures of a few of the variants I have.



As you can see, the salmon/pink armor for Mekaneck looks different than the orange one that belongs to Stinkor.



Perhaps you or someone else can help me shed some light on these mystery accessories?

I also have that brown spear, my Randor is holding it. Not sure if its a variant color that came with him or not, but I have noticed it and been wondering for some time. I also have the Salmon Armor Mekaneck, his eyes are definitely more shiny than the reg version, but the paint on his head is very flaky.

It seems the salmon Mekaneck armor is from Mexico. I have no clue on the brown spear but my guess would be international variant.

One of the long-time .orgers produced a CD a few years back listing many if not all of the variants, complete with photos and production details. (I still have my copy somewhere) My mind's blurry on who compiled it now, but they're likely still about on the forums.

I've catalogued a whole chunk of variants myself over the years (from He-Man's famous Mexican-produced axe - with side handle! ... to the numerous versions of Faker (hard head is the late waves re-release; and some early versions actually had black boots) ... at least four versions of the Tri-Klops head mold, so many more including the French - most notable - variants, from different paint jobs, to a blue He-Man shield with Stinkor), I did have a saved document of some of them on a now ancient hard disk. I'll try to dig it out at some point, but maybe someone who can remember who produced the variant CD?

I do have an ancient Word document buried on some even-more-ancient hard disk for the various examples of variations I have. It'll be back at my parents home somewhere, I'll have to wade through my pile of old computers(!) when I'm there. From what I can recall most of these varations were on the CD, but even all these years later, a new variation might often pop up that no-one has encountered before, even if down to something small as a tweak to the paintjob, or the countless international versions or bootlegs.

Going through a few of my figures and noticed Rokkon comes with both blue arms and orange/silver gloves, and orange arms with silver gloves. As well as other slight colouring variations.

Yeah the CD sounds awesome. Too bad it would arrive too late for me to use.

Some of the variances are so small I almost miss them. Don't think I would have noticed the fluro orange at the edges of skeletors jaw, except for that I was already going to keep him as my Half-boot Skeletor.
