Well, here's my official entry piece, but I have a bunch of supplementary art as well:

I'm just beginning to play with some art software, so I apologize in advance for the cheesy background :P.

I took my He-Man back to the original mini-comic, and see him as the savage "Jungle He-Man" given the Power Sword, Tech Vest, and Tech Shield by the Goddess. However, I also gave him a standard issue Eternian Energy Pistol, to further emphasize the mix of fantasy and sci-fi.

Before I designed He-Man, I designed the new "Jungle He-Man", to get a feel for his attitude and "pre-He-Man" costume:

I envisioned him as more tropical than European, so I replaced the fur with bronze tools, leather straps, and reptile skins. I also wanted him to have several scars from large animal attacks in the jungle.

Once the Sword and Vest are bestowed, he becomes the most powerful man in the Universe - He-Man! The idea would be that the standard Iron Cross logo is now incorporated into the tech of the Vest. When he's de-powered and being casual, the cross and shoulder details are all black. Once he's powered up and ready for battle, they glow red, giving us the classic He-Man color scheme. Here's the man without the background:

Originally, I did more of an "action" piece, but didn't want it considered an official entry since you couldn't see much of his new costume detail. I fixed it up in the art software, but again, pardon the cheesy effects :

I also have the original black and white ink pieces available, but wasn't going to post them unless someone wanted to see them specifically (or if Predabot wants to color them for me :P).

This was a fun redesign challenge, Pyre, and it got my gears going for new designs for the rest of the main cast!

    Cheers!

The deadline is still set for April 15th... one month to go folks!!

Bearshow, I hate you dude. Lol *PYRE kicks and screams like a baby*

Thanks for crediting me with inspiring you bro. Pred Patreek and I all decided on He-Man for this challenge together. But, this is why I wanted to take over the challenge and keep it going. The honor in provoking artists for new pieces like these is so awesome.

there are a lot of great entries,

but I think I found my personal favorite so far with bearshow┤s design.

    @Pyre
Yes, I had something like this in my mind.
Btw. Cyber Punk not Steam Punk.

Love your He-Man, but, there is a but... I don┤t like the head band on He-Man, savage he-man head band is great but not on He-Man, and the toes... that is a weak spot on a warrior... he needs his boots... the rest and the technique are amazing, love the sword.

I would love to see the B&W pieces, do you have a blog or a deviant art account?

Cool style, vertigoink - very Bruce Timm-esque! I'm a huge Timm fan, so I like what I'm seeing!

Thanks, Iceman, Jon14, Charlie Brown, TechTrek, and Red Norvell for the positive feedback - I really appreciate it!

Pyre - You guys deserve the credit! I would have never even thought to redesign He-Man unless you suggested it . I'm looking forward to a long and constructive relationship with this team - these challenges definitely bring out new ideas for all of us!

Ulisses31 - Great points; the headband is definitely a love or hate thing ! I used it because I wanted something that would make him distinctly He-Man if you only saw his head. Superman has the S-curl, Captain America has his A, but He-Man's always just been a blonde dude . I was worried about whether it would make him too Conan-esque, but it ended up distinct enough for me. It actually has the 200X "H" logo, as a nod. Regarding the bare toes, that one I did think about. When the Power Vest was first designed by Mattel, it was supposed to surround Jungle He-Man with a protective force field, so I wanted to go back to that. That way, he could still be the iconic, half-naked warrior without getting carved up by every baddie that came at him! Following that logic, I figured it would be impossible for him to stub his toes, and I could keep his tropical warrior roots to distinguish him from the European barbarian archetype. I envision him as still missing the wild, and not wanting to really embrace the ways of Eternia's other lands. As far as the black and white pieces, I haven't set up my deviantart account yet, so here's the originals for you:

    Cheers!

Thanks man I appreciate it, I've always been fond of your pencil and inking style because it harkens back really faithfully to the mini-comics and that's probably my favorite period mythos wise- I also like the tech touch too with the vest and blaster adaptation!

Damn Bearshow... You're back in the saddle!

Sorta at a loss for words at the moment. That design is epic. Must ruminate further and come back with more coherent response.

As for my entry, I haven't even started yet. I'm struggling to find a direction to go in. >.<

Many thanks for the B&W, amazing, always love b&w, it have a vintage felling on it, I┤ve grew up reading b&W comics... Nostalgia.

About the vest, yes I┤m using the same basic idea about a savage warrior that gets a techno vest.

I┤m going the same route that Danbrenus, Zombihamma-AI, carlosdeanda and you.
He-Man is a savage warrior, with long hair, like Alcala draw. But with a techno vest and powerful weapons that the goddess give him.

But mine have an European style, not a Tarzan with weapons LOL

Ace drawings, Bearshow. You're very talented!

But why does He-man have the little "H" logo on his headband before he actually becomes He-man?

HORDEMONKEY - try making He-man a zombie to fight the evil corpse warrior that is Skeletor! There's your direction. Hehe.

P.S. I can't draw myself, but if anyone wants to put my ideas for a He-man redesign down onto paper (or computer, these days)... well, I've been developing a few just for fun and would love to see them turned into art by someone.

Hey guys first of all, thank you for inviting me, a great honor to display my work among so many talented fellow orgers. Here is my take, this was a commission I made for a customer last year, he was basically a He-man in medieval armor. I took several influences from all eras and drawings I have researched here at the org. The video explains in further detail the process:
