Warning to all there WILL be spoilers.

I read a HUGE spoiler that I won't post (because I haven't seen the movie) that I don't like the sound of but it COULD play out in a good way, so I will see the flick to judge, but it's a HUGE disappointment to me at this stage. reading it has dampened my enthusiasm to see the movie in a big way, but again I will go see it opening week most likely.

I've just comme from the cinema... Movie is great! However, it is not Avengers great...

This is the most script complex Iron Man movie to date, almost like Nolan's Batman; but it has much more humor due to RDJ's Tony Stark eccentricities. Plot is tricky, has some twists and there are moments in which it is required to pay attention to fully comprehend it.
It is clear Shane Blacks hand on having good cop, rebel good cop with RDJ & Don Cheadle having very clever dialogues through the whole movie.
I personally think that RDJ may have work close with Black in developing the story, since it seems to be Tony's story dealing with a more seemingly down to earth threat and human relationships issues.

Now, some reviews that may result quite spoilerish...

 

Extremis story line has been modified and excellently adapted to fit Mandarin & AIM's plot, whose relation with terrorism is extremely surprising & terrifying. Sadly, even more so with Boston incident
There are some psychic scars from "Avengers" that Tony has to deal with and end up in the multi armors set up
There's very few IM armor action scenes, it is a more Tony driven and having to deal with no technology story, and even with the armor seems to be in quite disadvantage.
Last scene with the dozen armors is good, but I persoanlly wished they had a more detailed screen time, they just work as eye candy and for Hot Toys to have figures to built for the next decade
Guy Pierce makes an excellent villain and equals Tony in smart moves. His defeat is quite lame though
Peppers's role left me scratching my head by the end of the movie
There's a sense of closure of the series on the whole movie from scene 1, and I do not know if or how RDJ may return in Avengers 2 or a possible IM4. I think that money may change that for sure
After credit scene it is a cameo, related to the narration from the start, but does not hint any future movie, not even Thor.

In a sort of way, at half the movie, I kinda expect it. It was presented in the same fashion as has been in the first movie, terrrorist, but it smelled like a red herring based on the first flashback scene.
Then, it is quite a downgrade since it is then used as comic relief, which I find hard to swallow with Mr Knigsley whom I truly admire and wished to be a real threat. Also, it is quite hard to understand why S.H.I.E.L.D. was not involved from the beginnning.
However, I did really like Guy Pierce, since it is quite Tony's evil mirrored image

those things that bothered you are what i imagined and it bothers me too.

 

It would have been so much better to keep him around as another rogue to add to the cinematic universe this doesn't mean I won't enjoy the film, but maybe knowing this before hand I won't be so disappointed by this development. if I went in cold I imagine this would **** me off What bugs me the most now is they are doing an AMAZING Hot Toys figure of a fraud.

I saw it last night in Scotland. The Mandarin is revealed to be an actor posing as a Mandarin to blame - but Guy Pearce's character sports Fang Foom dragon tattoos at the end and claims himself to be the true Mandarin. In any case, Robert Downey JNR is better than ever as a whip-smart Tony Stark while the Iron Man effects and set pieces are just breathtaking. I think you'll all love it!

Rhanen sums it up perfectly!! Very well said pal.
I had the chance to see an advance screening of IM3 here in Australia Tuesday night. Rhanen's review talks about all the things I was disappointed in, yet also praises the movie in all the right aspects as well.
I thought Iron Patriot was very cool and I liked the in-movie jokes comparing him against War Machine.
For me the I didn't feel satisfied at the end of the movie. Maybe I had placed my expectations too high?

Went to see it yesterday and enjoyed it but didn't think it was anything special.

 

I was disappointed The Mandarin is revealed to be an actor and not the true villain and the post credit scene didn't tease anything like the past ones have.

I really enjoyed it. the who mandarin angle I thought was awesome. btw I didn't get the relation of those tattoos' cheers for that. the armours where great I know you don't get to see half of them up close but very well done. the teaser as the end is for the next avengers movie. aka phase 2 apparently in rumors this was the last IM for Robert Downey JNR apart from avengers 2 which he is slated to return for. then again there was another franchise that the lead actor said he would do no more and that was called pirates of the Caribbean it was meant to end with at worlds end. but theres 2 more of those on the way.

Unfortunately no, there was no MOS trailer, which I was really expecting since I just had seen the teaser at cinemas. Although, "Thor, Dark World" was shown, for which I have a huge "Meh..." for the moment

Wow, there is some serious dividing of opinion regarding Iron-Man 3. It appears its one of those films you either love or hate. Obviously, I’m assuming that's down the “twist”. Personally, I loved it and I thought the plot twist was handled brilliantly. I just couldn’t stop laughing. However, thinking about the whole film now, I’m left with this serious lack of seriousness. The film, in a way, seems like one big joke, but I actually like that. In a way, it’s actually probably the boldest comic book movie I’ve ever seen. There were so many “un-PC” decisions made. Even the opening of the film, when ‘I’m Blue’ started playing. From that alone I knew we were in for something a little different. My favourite Iron-Man film of the lot.

I didn't want Mandarin to be a comic relief thing, esp since he was initially supposed to be the emperor from star wars in a way if you read old info about the universe. also as I said I wanted a serious rogue for Stark to have AND to build up the Marvel Cinematic rogues gallery, so this news is unsettling, but will I like it as a comedy so much that the other stuff washes away? anyway I'm seeing it this saturday so we will see.

I see what you mean. This is just my feeling, but in an odd sort of way it really does leave a comedic taste in your mouth. Coming out of the cinema, part of me really did feel like I had just watched a comedy. I was completely "had" by the film. I didn't see the twist coming at all. When it happens it really did change the whole dynamic of the film for me. You had this great piece of casting in Sir Ben Kingsly, and he was basically reduced to the part of comic relief. He is hilarious. In a way, I suppose you could say that they "Nolanafied" the Mandarin. Guy Pierce is pretty much the Mandarin. He says as much at the end.

I don't mind if there is a REAL ACTUALY Mandarin somewhere but I am let down that as far as I've heard Mandarin doesn't exist outside of Guy Pierce being behind the stuff. which just makes Aldrich Killian a more credible villain, unless he IS the Mandarin a la Ra's Al Ghul and Henri Ducard speaking of the Nolanverse. I don't know, we'll see, It feels like I will enjoy the movie but wish it was something else

I both loved and meh'd this movie. It was at the same time one of the best Marvel-movies and one of the more not-so-great ones.

 

Things I liked:
+ Story is placed after the Avengers movies and influences by it
+ Tony being a mess and inviting danger to his and Pepper's home
+ The light-heartedness
+ The kid
+ The first 1h30min+ of the movie
+ That there were few action scenes
+ Mandarin being a comic relief. Brilliant and bold!
+ Guy Pearce being in the movie
+ Tony giving up being Iron Man at the end. That was beautiful and I hope it carries to Avengers 2.
+ Bruce Banner at the end.

Things I disliked
- The last half hours. Too much silly action and superficial silly plot-development
- Lack of Rhodes-moments (what was the point of Iron Patriot?) and Rhodes living at the end (I mean come on - why didn't the bad guys finish him after prying the suit off?)
- The bad guys messing up so badly at the end. For a guy who managed to come up with a good plan, Guy Pearce surely ended up messing his own set-up.
- Lack of character development for the villains and Pepper.

I think they got a jump on things. I was so surprised to see a 9pm show (it was on the regular screens then, too) that I jumped at the chance, not realizing I'd get to see it! I had planned on going Saturday.

I'm a huge Iron Man fan, and have been since I was little. He's pretty much my favorite superhero, so I was ecstatic and how great Iron Man 1 was. Iron Man 2 had it's moments, but it's hard to deny that it's not as good. But this one... I definitely think it was back on form. The great thing about this is that there's so much about it that's unexpected. Here are what I think is great about it:

 

1.) Tony Stark - RDJ is great as Tony Stark, so much so that you don't need him to be in the suit all the time. I thought it was pretty great to have him on his own or interacting with new people for a lot of this movie. I liked that they sort of stripped him down.

2.) The villains not being armored... again. There are only so many armor on armor scenes you can watch. The Extremis soldiers were credible threats and I think this aspect worked very well.

3.) The Mandarin. At first, when I realized what was happening (almost as soon as I saw the teleprompter) I could hardly believe it. But the reveal scene is AMAZING. This is Sooooo much more interesting than if he'd just been a terrorist. The Killian's whole plot is much more interesting than that, using the tropes of terrorism to his own gain. I hope people can appreciate how great this is, and how effective it is. The thing to remember is, if we hadn't gotten the Mandarin this way, we wouldn't have gotten him in any way. He's too problematic as a character. Was part of me sad not to see crazy rings with crazy powers and big huge dragons? Sure, but this seemed to fit, and it's nice to be surprised as a comic book loving viewer.

4.) The kid. Oh, these scenes could have gone so awry. But I thought they were hilarious.

5.) The whole vibe. It's like a high-tech cop movie or something half the time. I know it'll be make some people mad. But I thought it was great. Also great to finally see a proper team-up with Rhodey and Tony! They weren't in armor, but it was great.

6.) Pepper - in a way not a lot happened with Pepper. She was sort of in the background a lot of the time, but it was all worth it for the scenes in the climax.

7.) A sense of closure - I hope there's a lot more of RDJ as Iron Man and Iron Man films, but I enjoyed that this wrapped a bow on the trilogy if it is. I mean, I think he'll be back for Avengers 2. But it'll be interesting to see how all that evolves.

8.) The armors. It was a lot of fun to see all the different designs in action.

9.) The after-credits sequence. Used very much like the sequence in Avengers. Not as pulse pounding as the Phase 1 end credits, but still very fun.
