Wow, that is incredibly sad to hear. His work was amazing, and has been an inspiration for generations of science fiction enthusiasts. He will be sorely missed.
The main concept artist and designer of the original Star Wars movies (and lots of other stuff) has passed on.

The art and wonderful concepts he created will live on forever.

R.I.P. I bought all his Star Wars concept figures that came out a few years ago. They were pretty neat.
Mr McQuarrie also did some concept work for the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie.
He was definitely is one of my favorite artists. I'm so grateful for his contributions to so many beloved properties!

Such a bummer, and so interesting that he did his most famous work in his late 40s and 50s.
His imagination is what gives Masters of the Universe its most redeeming quality: the designs. Oh, and that little film he did called Star Wars.
"Everything comes to he who waits."
This breaks my heart. It was sweeter knowing he was still with us.
It's a shame there's nothing but tiny thumbnails on his site. I didn't know his sketches for He-Man were out there!
Wow!
So sad.
I met him about 10 years ago. He was such a nice guy.

A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him.

mcquarrie is practically the co-creator of star wars and had a huge impact on the look of cinematic and televised sci-fi...he'll be missed...

So sad to hear this. He gave sweep, realism and epic scale to sci fi fantasy and Star Wars, Indiana Jones and countless modern scifi/fantasy would be the poorer without him. Seemed to be a really kind and generous man too! A sad loss.

"Me too!"
Read this this morning, very sad news.
I met him once at a signing in a shop at Meadow Hall, Sheffield when I was about 15 (1997ish). I actually talked my mum into letting me have the day off school and going there on the train on my own just to meet him and get a book signed which I still have, its 'The Illustrated Guide to the Star Wars Universe'

Man, his visual depictions of Star Wars characters helped launch the interest in movie producers to get Star Wars made. He had an enormous impact in my life because of that. The Dark Side salutes him...

This hit me pretty hard-my favorite piece of art (ever) is his painting of the droids on Tatooine. This is a major loss for SW fans and the world of art in general.![]()
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I don't think I could be that nice even if you paid me. If we ever give out awards for "forum member of the month", Uki gets my vote. -Mr. Shokoti

His artistic contributions are legendary. I am sad to hear this news. My thoughts are with his family.
