Well, my question wasn't picked for WFWTK, so it looks like we're still in the dark for now. Sigh.

No offense, but I doubt that WTFWTK can help us here. We would have got the same "We're looking into this" or "Contact customer service" reply as usual.
Then again, it might have helped to raise awareness for the issue.
    Awesome sticker included!

I was just hoping that if it was picked TG would've been made fully aware of the issue. Even if we didn't get an answer, it would've been a step in the right direction. Ah well, hopefully he'll see this thread now.

Well for Scorpia's Shadow Weaver I paid $79.73 in total (59.99 for Weaver and $19.74 for Priority Mail) My Shadow Weaver was shipped by Express Mail and even that was cheaper than $40. That cost $29.24.

I find it hard to believe a Matty shipping box containing 1 MOTUC figure would cost $40! Unless SW wasn't sent Priority? Though it did have priority stickers on it and arrived within a week so either that or regular airmail is getting faster...

At the moment items over £15 are avoiding VAT fees at customs such as the Star Sisters and the 3 Feb figures. Many UK fans are speculating its due to the current method DR is using to ship EU orders. Thats what I meant and was referring to. If they go by USPS then we might starting paying fees for items over £15 in value again.

However you are wrong anyway. VAT is charged on the item value and shipping cost combined when an item is over £15 for merchandise and £40 for gifts.

I think the shipping (via Sweden) is for EU based customers only. Does DR have a distribution place in Sweden? Since Sweden is an EU member, this is likely why UK folk are avoiding customs VAT on their Matty packages with a value higher than $25.

IIRC there are also some Canadians reporting their packages have been coming from Sweden as of late.

No matter how the question gets asked, there will never be any substantial response to threads about customer service problems. That's just the way it is. But it doesn't stop us trying to keep these topics live.

I'm still waiting for WR to arrive. I've had three boxes arrive containing more recent orders though. They're all out of sequence. I think I'm still waiting for four boxes (not including my Kobra Khan orders).

It seems international fans mean so little to Mattel that they don't even deserve an answer from "The Company" regarding this serious issue...

The Sweden thing hasn't stopped me getting charged VAT and handling. It would be nice if the EU thing actually produced a benefit, but the EU is as rubbish as DR!

delivery times to Mexico have increased from 3 to 6 weeks... they keep telling us that´s because of the customs offices and departments here and there... I havent received my Sorceresses nor Fistos!

Just got an email from Matty asking if my address is correct and if I can receive UPS shipments at it. All my other shipments have arrived so why would this be any different.

I received the same e mail a few weeks ago, they use it to gain some time. That´s the problem of being an international customer! I think that if you call them, they will keep you waiting on the line but for sure you can get fast results. Anyway I can not call them so I am waiting for the email response

I never got that email - I'm in New Zealand too and I normally get most orders in 2 weeks - this time it's nearing 4 and I'm so feeling sad

Oh, I see what you mean. I had wondered if that was the reason. Thanks.

But the cost of shipping is not meant to be included when charges are calculated. A family friend at the sorting office was kind enough to explain the process to me last year when I was "stung" for the first time. A $30 item with $9.95 postage to the UK is considered to be a $30 item, not a $39.95 item. Of course sometimes the labelling can be misleading, and they have to go by what they see in front of them, but if you can prove the "true" cost of your item you can have the difference refunded.

What item (s) did you get charged VAT on? Your the first UK fan to say you got charged VAT on 2012 items I believe...

    From HMRC website:

Charges are calculated by UK Border Agency (UKBA) staff at the postal depots where the packages are received. However, in some cases special arrangements are in place for goods purchased on the internet (see paragraph 3.4 below).

Value Added Tax (VAT) - Import VAT is charged at the same rate that applies to similar goods sold in the UK and applies to commercial goods over £15 in value, and on gifts that are over £40 in value. The value of the goods for import VAT is based on the:

    -basic value of goods, plus
    -postage, packing and insurance, plus
-any import (Customs or Excise) duties charged
Unfortunately shipping has VAT charged on it too I know as I post and receive parcels on a regular basis

Putting a bit of thought into this, and I order from international sources regularly, the shipping isn't on the level of first class (regular airmail).

I think that Mail on the Move is simply backed up with orders. I am in Australia and every package that I have handy (3) has a swedish postage label. My theory is that black friday/ cyber monday ordering was the origin of the system overload. What we are seeing is the result of a sorting facility unable to catch up with it's workload. There must be massive spikes in product ordered due to the ongoing aggressive sales by matty.

In my opinion Mattel are simply expecting MOTM to catch up with everything and are prepared to wait it out... Knowing that pretty much everyone will be eventually getting product. They 'probably' have inside information as to the status of the operation. That is why cc is only giving generic answers and the brand manager is remaining silent.

I'm also in South Africa. When I joined Matty online it took about 6 to 8 weeks for delivery but for the past year it took about 4 weeks to get here. I have a buddy that buy as well and our stuff arrive almost always at the same time. Now with the January 12 order he received his Star Sisters after 5 weeks but my Star Sisters is yet to arrive after 8 weeks now. No Feb figures have arrived as yet but I hope to get them soon. A bit worried about the Jan figures though.

I keep posting this, but no-one seems to take any notice. So I'll try again!

If your order hasn't arrived and DR keep giving you the brush-off contact the Minnesota branch of the BBB. I can't stress this enough people, it does work!

Last October I ordered the Ghost Trap which never arrived. I e-mailed DR and got the usual, "You're in Britain so we don't give a stuff about you" response. I gave them a couple of weeks and they were still giving me the run-a-around, so I contacted the BBB. Within a week I had a new Trap sent via UPS (at DR's expense).

Same thing happened with my November order, it never arrived. Gave them time to sort it, they didn't, so I opened another BBB case and, again, within a week I had my order (minus Snout Spout as he was, apparently, out of stock).

The point I'm trying to make is that you need to be proactive with these people. By all means write about your experiences here, but if you're that sick of waiting, do something about it, don't just sit there expecting DR to help because they won't and we all know it!

It takes two minutes to open a BBB case and I can guarantee you it'll put a rocket under DR's collective backside. If everyone who's posted in this thread contacted the BBB DR would have to take notice!

Incidentally, of the two subs I hold (one for me, one for a friend in London) my friends Feb. sub arrived last Saturday and I'm still waiting for mine. It took 29 days for the Star Sisters to arrive to both of us, so what in Hades is going on with it this month? Just maddening!
