I'm fine with just Filmation exclusive characters. The important ones at least.

Since most of what came out after 85 or so was crap, I could do without the last few years.

That being said, just because the cartoon expanded the audience doesn't make it of high quality. Hell, Bayformers exposed lots of new people to the TransFormers and made how many hundreds of millions of $$$ worldwide, and those three movies were festering piles of dog abortion stuffed in a dead raccoon carcass and left to rot in the sun.

I don't mind if the FILMation fans get their heads, I just think that dumbing down the designs leads to crap product.

Randor I wouldn't be as turned off by since he's quite a bit different. If they did decide to put them out I would hope they'd do it similar to the 30th anniversary sub as I'd much prefer to get characters we hadn't gotten yet to slightly different versions of ones we have.

    Just my opinion though.
Im not sad about things not looking like filmation either. I never really liked there designs vs the Original Toy designs.

    Yes!

I watched that first episode with visions of the Mini-comics having come to life dancing in my head. Instead, I got Orko, a Dutch Boy haircut and camp-camp-camp... I hated it from the jump. I was only 7, but even then I knew crap when I saw it.

While my friends at the babysitter's were watching, I would pour over my mini-comics, pitying them in my little 7/8/9-year-old heart...for they would never know the joy of Alcala, Texiera or good writing that didn't intellectually insult the viewer.

I remember the original animated toy commercial...THAT is what I thought we would get when the cartoon first debuted.

No such luck. Pink bunnies, Shakespeare rejects and an Evilseed that looked more like a broccoli-headed flasher.

Kind of happy about this. I would rather they spend their efforts elsewhere rather than ever-so-slight variants of the same figures.

Most characters once they get 'clasicized' would end up looking exactly the same anyways so, hopefully this idea of "filmation variants" dies of quick.

Some of us happen to like Filmation, and don't feel insulted by it's animation or story lines....I just finished watching the whole first season, and found I still enjoyed it, much more than I can say for all the crap cartoons on TV today.

I on the other hand was never a Comic reader, and cared less for the ones that came with the toys.

On the other hand I am not on the Filmation variants for everyone wagon, I only say 2 or 3 of the main characters (and one isn't He-Man)....no Pink Bunny please. As much as I love Filmation, that character was stupid.... I love Transformers too, but a couple G1 episodes I can live without as well.

But look at it this way 200X fans still want what they want, and Filmation fans deserve the same as anyone else. Don't like it, don't want it?, don't buy it.

I don't need them to waste whole slots on Filmation variants of already released characters but I think they absolutely should release a Filmation Skeletor head as a pack in. If they did the Alcala head they should do the Filmation. To not is cruel double standards. The old mini comic fans got the head they wanted (That I personally think is hideous) so now give me MY definitive look for old bone head!

Filmation haters = "small but vocal extreme minority".

I wonder what the 7 vocal Filmation haters all did when watching the Mattypalooza SDCC video when Toyguru played the sound effect to those magical, colorful Filmation letters and everyone cheered their asses off.

    BEST QUOTE OF ALL TIME!

Sure, I loved He-Man cartoons when I was like, two. By the time I got to four and five I thought they were ridiculous, especially in comparison to GI Joe. Here's a list of random thoughts I recall having as a child watching MOTU and POP:

How come all the voices sound the same?
Why do they keep reusing that part where He-Man puts his fists to his waste while he's looking at something?
How come Madame Razz sounds like Archie Bunker's wife?
Why does He-Man punch the camera in the same spot each episode?
Why do all the cartoon characters look absolutely nothing like their toys?
Why is Hordak blue and how come he snorts like a pig?
If Melakhta is black, then why does he sound like Man At Arm's long lost brother?
Why doesn't He-Man just imprison Skeletor (or kill him) instead of letting him get away at the end EVERY SINGLE EPISODE? It's like- "Hurry He-Man, Skeletor's getting ready to touch something on his wrist band and he's going to disappear- get him before he gets away!" Instead, He Man walks casually over and places his fists on his hips.

But my number one gripe as a child: How come when Prince Adam takes off all his clothes and runs around with a sword, everybody thinks he's a different person? When I strip down to my underoos, put on some cowboy boots, and run around with my official He-Man Power Sword/Shield set, everybody knows it's still me! Are people on Eternia stupid? Is that why they don't do anything to Skeletor, because they have mental disabilities? If I went to Eternia, would I be able to fool them with my quick change routine?

In my opinion, Filmation sucks. It was possibly the worst thing to have happened to the toyline. Had the cartoon never existed, the toyline could have kept its mature overtones. It wouldn't have been as successful, but it would have come to a more natural close long before we had crap like Snout Spout and Rio Blast.

And now, Toyguru has come out and said that there aren't going to be any major Filmation variants in the line. Which is cool with me either way, because had they been made I wouldn't have bought them and I would have said something like "Why are we getting a pack of Wolf Bats instead of Eldor?"

So Toyguru, though I've been hard on you in the past, it doesn't mean I can't give credit where credit is due. Thank you for holding off on these 4th grade Da Vinci's. I now officially forgive you for Mo-larr and the Star Sisters. (Well... I forgive you for the Star Sisters.)

I enjoyed them as a kid but I did think they were way dumbed down and always wondered why the bad guys never won and no one for the most part ever died? I also couldn't stand Cringer being such a coward, Orko a bumbling idiot, and how dumb some of the villains acted. GI Joe bothered me the same way with laser guns, parachutes, and nobody ever dying- plus they hardly ever used Snake Eyes? (In that vain it's why I felt the Marvel comic for GI Joe was so much better). But yeah about a year ago I borrowed a filmation DVD of what was touted as the "10 best episodes of Masters of the Universe" and I couldn't even finish it, had me thinking to myself the 10 best really??? Nearly the same with the Live action movie watched that a year or so ago and thought man this is just god awful, why did'nt I remember this sucking this bad I thought I needed to watch this again ever?

My friend won tickets to the premiere event at a theater so we were among the first kids in our city to see the Filmation cartoon and we all hated it. We were fans of the toys, comics, and coloring books and the cartoon turned two of my buddies off of motu that same day. I chose to ignore the cartoon and continued the fiction of the mini comics...

lol You were 7? That explains it. I was born in 82, so I knew nothing of the minicomics. My introduction to He-Man was the Filmation series, and my first toy from the series was Fisto. By then, the minicomics must have been more like the Filmation stuff, so I guess that explains our differences of opinions when it comes to the source material.

BTW, Lord, you have the wrong video, here is the correct one :

Really? I suggest Young Justice, Avengers, and Thundercats that are all current and the 1st 2 are outstanding! Also recent stuff from the past would be Justice League which later became Justice League Unlimited, GI Joe Resolute, and quite a few of the straight to DVD animated releases from Marvel and DC

Anyone forgetting Superman here?....Glasses and tights were his only disguises....yet no one knew? And Superman has stood the test of time, even with this major *** thing. And as smart as Lois was, she was always in need of saving....

And how many characters even in modern cartoons sound the same?

Looney Tunes, almost ever voice was Mel Blanc.....

Every cartoon that features Frank Welker sounds like Fred from Scooby Doo

Every character in the Simpson voiced by the same guys sound the same, same for Family Guy, almost everyone sounds like Seth McFarlane.

It's not an uncommon thing in cartoons to have many characters sound alike, and with Filmation, they did almost all the voices in house, no voice actors....

God forbid I get into the horribly dubbed Anime cartoons from the 80's with their cheesy animation effects, and everyone in Speed Racer going "uh" when they were surprised....I think MOTU was one of the better cartoons of the day, granted I do admit a little more action would not have hurt.

Filmation is what popped the toyline to so many more than the Comics could have, because just because a handful read the comics, not every kid cared about Comics, or knew of MOTU until the Filmation came to be, and if not for Filmation, 200X may not have even been thought of. I know many of my friends that never heard of MOTU until the cartoon debuted, our parents bought our toys, and they went by what we saw on TV and told them we wanted....those Mini Comics, meant and still mean nothing to me.

I wasn't referring to those, I was referring to Adventure Time, Gumball, Spongebob when it was on....all to me unwatchable, and had not real point to even be on.

And I watched All the Batman, Superman & Justice League cartoons, and I watch Thundercats, Ben 10, TF Prime & A few episodes of the new Green Lantern cartoon, but like I said, I was never into Comics aside from a few of the ones that made it to TV or movies, like Batman, Superman (cartoons only, never liked the movies), X-Men, Spiderman....

Also back in the day, I watched Centurions, Thundercats, Silverhawks, Bravestarr, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Voltron (Vehicle & Lions), Tranzor-Z (Boob missiles he-he), Transformers, The Real Ghostbusters, MASK.....and a few more I can't remember at the moment...and all had moments of Cheese or something easy to pick apart as you look back....

Clawful would be on my really short list of Filmation variants for sure, since I can't stand the Mup-Pet version of him in Classics, or his vintage figure.

(Well... I forgive you for the Star Sisters.)

to help highlight her affable nature

this is hyperbole. most of the characters looked very similar to their toy counterparts.
Why is Hordak blue and how come he snorts like a pig?
to make him easily identifiable to children
If Melakhta is black, then why does he sound like Man At Arm's long lost brother?

this was common across the board in 80's cartoons...but regardless, skeletor's magical prowess makes him notoriously difficult to capture...and i can't think of a single cartoon aimed at children where the villain was killed...least of all by the lead hero

But my number one gripe as a child: How come when Prince Adam takes off all his clothes and runs around with a sword, everybody thinks he's a different person?
it is part of the magic of the sword

and the comics were campy too....the filmation cartoon simply had the same issue that all 80's cartoons had; it had to pass through various bureaucracies and red tape to be deemed appropriate for kids.
