The org has a link to this very book. That is very interesting. I never knew this before......here's the link for Toyguru:

Glad I could help with the name of the book, and glad the .org already has it scanned. Saves me the trouble of scanning mine.

I've been eating these up since Scott started posting them. One question though:

How did we go from "Hordak - The Last Figure Ever" to Tri-Klops being made? Feel like there's a gap in the story.

That said... Keep it up Scott!

Nice blog again. Tri-Klops has always been one of my favourites, hope we can get that Doomseeker in 200x/silver colour one day

When he says "you can often tell a good guy or a bad guy based on the visuals of the figure" reminds me of something that happened to me when I was in my early teens. My and parents hand gone round to my aunts and uncles and I went upstairs to see my younger cousin. When I went into his bedroom I was presently surprised to see him playing with a Castle Grayskull and MOTU figures. Now bear in mind he'd got these loose from a flea market and MOTU had long since died out so there was not cartoons or comics to tell him who was who. I started telling him the names of the figures and noticed he had Buzz-Off with his group of bad guys. I told him "no this guy is a good guy," but he wouldn't have it and continued to use him as a bad guy because to him thats how he looked. Its just something I've always remembered.

I think this showed up in a TV spot eventually, but I was really proud of myself for coming up with a feature (what I thought) all on my own!
So ToyGuru didn't actually bother to read the packed-in minicomic in which Trap Jaw does exactly this?

I quickly corrected this and confirmed that yes, of course the headpiece will turn 360 degrees. ...But yet another lesson for me that everything I say had the potential to be misinterpreted.
No no no. The lesson should have concerned reading comprehension. You read "movable" and thought the person said "REmovable." Many a time since then, similar questions have been misread in Q&As much in this same vein. It's very dismaying that the lesson you took away from the "movable"/"removable" mixup is that, once again, it's the fans that are to blame for interpreting you badly.

I agree with 4 out of 5 as I don't like action features, either.

find it interesting that Scott confirms once again that one of the reasons they didn't go with action features was that they would break up the sculpt. I'm looking forward to Scott's blog about Hurricane Hordak to see how he justifies the ugly red dial on the back, which clearly destroys the sculpt and should have been left out IMO.

I think TG will justify it by saying That a button, dial, or level does break up the sculpt, as any kind of switch is sort of separate piece.A hole would have to be cut into the sculpt to insert the switch. But whether you think it'S ugly or not, you are not breaking the sculpt if a dial or lever is sculpted on as part of the armor.

To be fair I don't remember this mini comic at all but I always slid trap jaw around on a string as a kid.

I think it's safe to say that anything Toyguru says will always be taken the worst way possible with the fandom. He'd almost be better off never answering anything again. That would be the only way to not be taken in the negative light he can't seem to get out of...
The man can't win for trying with some people, and it is sad.

People who are attacking fans who point out clear inconsistencies with what Scooter is telling us really are becoming more of a problem than those they set out to "correct"- I promise you people that it is not your job in life to defend Guru's honor like a knight- he's a professional and has thick skin and I'm sure he can take reasonable criticism.

Now I wonder personally if Scott will tell the story of how the "old boys club" in Matty HQ only green lit budget for the next figure and subsequent permanent relaunch after seeing these fly off the virtual toy shelf of MattyCollector- I have a feeling that falls under Mattel's whole "we don't disclose that information publicly" umbrella though.

But yet another lesson for me that everything I say had the potential to be misinterpreted. I really had to remember to watch what I say and be as specific as possible, leaving very little room for interpretation.
Oooor, make sure you understand the question before giving an answer?

i THINK he's saying they wont include ACTION FEATURES when it breaks ths sculpt. HH does not have an action feature. they included the red dial because it was part of the orginal feature, but it is now part of the sculpt and not an action feature.

Thanks again for sharing. I knew about the Marlena Earth/astronaut storyline in the Filmation cartoon but I never knew about the Tri-Klops, Beastman, and Evil Lynn connection. I think it's terrible. Leave Earth out of MOTU!

Tri-Klops was a big favorite of mine as a kid. Very happy with motuc Tri-Klops. Love the extra eye detail & the included seeker.

I expect that TG may sometimes flub a little on the details in these blogs; he openly admitted he's taking most of it from memory, so I give him some slack when small contradictions come up. I do have to say, though, that he sort of missed the point with the miscommunication about Trike's visor. The problem wasn't that people misinterpreted his answer, it was that he misinterpreted the original question. The lesson to be learned wasn't to be more careful in your answer, it was to make sure you're answering the question actually being asked.

I read that as him acknowledging that he misunderstood the question. But I could just be inferring that.

A lot of us go by memory also, but we KNOW MOTU & it's history. Funny, we aren't even paid to.
