Nope. Movies and TV shows raise awareness more than anything else, and that's just a fact. Yeah the toy line did well on its own and could have gone on by itself longer, but not as much would have happened with MOTU as it did if it never had a cartoon, period. And like I said, MOTU didn't thrive and endure because it had any old cartoon, but specifically because it had the Filmation cartoon.

On topic: I also don't see why/how this has to be any kind of elseworld story. From what we know so far, I don't see any reason this can't fit in between any of the stories we already know of.

And the only bad part about DC doing the series is that every cover will be sullied by their terrible new logo!

Not necessarily on both counts. The toyline itself had many accolades, because of all of the different action features and play patterns that MOTU had brought to the table. The cartoons helped sell the toys, but the toys themselves were great sellers at their time.

MOTU was the first toyline based show of it's kind after the FCC regulations banning cartoons based on toys were lifted in the early 80's. I think if it ANY 80's toyline property was the FIRST to have a toyline-based cartoon, then that would have been the billion dollar success in MOTU's place. MOTU was in the right place at the right time.

While it is true the new logo is terrible (and someone should be sacked for it), it is IMO no less terrible than the content and character portrayals of the New 52 DC comics.

I hope MOTU gets better treatment from DC than their own properties have lately.

Without a cartoon series or movie, I'm guessing the line would have fizzled out around Wave 2 or 3. I remember Roger Sweet said that MOTU did okay in its first year, but that there were several other toy lines that were doing better.

I'm so excited about this! I kinda wish Marvel got it though.
My only reasoning is that Disney owns Marvel and they can't use any of the big superheroes in Orlando due to the contract Marvel had with Universal. Disney wants a Marvel presence in their parks and if MotU hit big...(whether in comic and/or movie form) they probably would've built an attraction for it.

Disney was hoping for John Carter to be the next big franchise so they'd have something to compete with Universal/Harry Potter...MotU could've been that!

I think key to MOTU, like with for example Batman, is to offer something a bit different each time series/media launches. There is nothing really gained by doing it exactly like the old times, like Batman I think He-man could very well be relaunched every couple of years with new stories and look. I am curious to see what other people can do with the brand, even if some of it probably will be less than exciting, its still a creative process that is interesting to follow.

I presume based on the geek interview that this will be "darker" version of He-man, based on what they speak of Skeletor. I wonder why they going with memory cleaning thing, instead of doing this as Adam becoming He-man story?

As for the art: the covers so often look totally different from the interior, so its impossible to say much about content. He-man looks a bit oddly shaped to me, but I do like Castle Grayskull.

    This is great news!

Admittedly, I would hope to see Val & Emiliano have some involvement at some point but we'll take what we can get when we can get it!

Probably the thing that excites me the most about this being produced through the Mattel/DC Relationship is that if things REALLY TAKE OFF for this Title, (& I know I'm dreaming here but hear me out) we could potentially see an excellent DC Universe Animated Original style Movie for MOTU & then we'd get Bruce Timm back! How awesome would that be??!!

Speaking of the Title of the book, do we know for certain if it will be MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE or HE-MAN & THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE? Personally, I have always preferred the MOTU title over H-M & MOTU.

my question is how much better would it have done if filmation/Mattel had gone with the third season they had planned, I clearly remember friends and peers saying they were getting bored of he-man because there weren't any new episodes. they said they like he-man but they don't show new episodes anymore. sigh, I just listend to the Larry Ditillio interview again the other day, my heart sinks at what the plan was going to be.

This isn't a dig at she-ra mind you, I just wish they didn't stop one in favour of the other. in a perfect world She-ra would have fought Catra's faction of the Evil Horde while hordak conquered Eternia. crossover event would/could have been big events or even animated movies.

Hey, krosfyah! Where might one find the Larry Ditillio interview that you are referrring to? Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Oh & for those wondering about new characters in the Comic & whether or not this is part of MOTUC Continuity, I submit this http://forums.mattycollector.com/eve...7/m/4161020157 & this http://forums.mattycollector.com/eve...7/m/5081070157 for your approval or disapproval, which ever you prefer.

If these provisions play out as Toyguru is detailing it in those posts, then it really throws all of the restrictions that MVC was burdened with in a very VERY poor light.

lol @ people trying to convince MGM (and others) of Filmation's impact and importance. Good luck guys! Been doing that for years now...

Onto the topic at hand...PUMPED! One step closer to "Maybe in a movie year" imo. Hopefully this brings some attention to MOTU. First time I'll be buying comic books since around 2003/2004 when the last MVC MOTU comics were out. Hopefully they get some use out of this. I want to see ads in there for MattyCollector's MOTUC figures! I also am VERY open to alternate/deluxe covers but I don't think they do this much anymore do they? I LOVED the variant covers during the MVC run and that stems from the awesome covers of the early 90s that were holographic, sparkly, glittery, foily, eye-catchingly awesome. Know what I mean y0?!

I am very excited to see this. I am also quite shocked that we haven't heard about it until now, and it is coming out in 3 months! I also expected that it would be put out by an independent company (like Darkhorse, or IDW), as everything that DC does seems to fit in with their new 52 concept, where this seems to be completely out of it; or is it? Is it possible that MOTU is going to be a part of the DCNU? I would think that very unlikely, but one has to wonder why DC would diverge from their present course to do a mini-series of a property pretty much completely away from their current direction. Either way, I will be very eager to support this comic in my store, and hope that it is a big seller!

I am so excited about this.
What a clever way to get rid of some of the hokiness--by nixing the royal family altogether (and hopefully Orko). The modern hero is a common man, and now He-Man will fit into that tradition. I can't wait to see concepts for the other characters in this new, altered reality.
I realize that Filmation fans will be annoyed by the tonal shift, but c'mon, Filmation fans had Filmation. I had four or five minicomics that defined my He-Man experience. I hope DC finds a way to bring that feeling back to me and even build on it a little.

I like the new DC logo.
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I don't think I could be that nice even if you paid me. If we ever give out awards for "forum member of the month", Uki gets my vote. -Mr. Shokoti

Yeah, not having new episodes to back up the toyline really hurt the toyline. Also, He-Man might have been better served to have shorter episode count follow up seasons to stretch things out like most cartoons rather than such a huge 65 episode count second season which was rare. After shooting 130 episodes of He-Man (more episodes than Transformers and G.I. Joe ever got) and going off to do She-Ra, Filmation probably felt that it was time to move on from Eternia. They didn't have a huge staff and usually only did 1 to 2 shows a year.

Because you need to do something catchy and epic for a mini-series. We don't need another origin story since the 2002 series already gave us a perfect one. And the minicomics are continuing that storyline, so it isn't like DC can continue due to this. And I honestly hate "in between" comic stories, so this is much more intriguing. Besides, I'm done for anything that has the villians winning.
Can someone PM me the US number for Matty? I want to talk to someone who might has a clue of what is going on.

This thread isn't about cartoons or toys, but it still found a way to get into a vintage/Filmation VS 2002 era war.

At least I'm not a part of it for once.

I agree. Except for Jim Lee's new costumes for most characters, the worst part of DC's New 52 is their latest logo. It's the worst one in the 70+ years that DC has been publishing comics...

    Imho that is.

Based on Disney's John Carter comics compared with Dynamite's John Carter comics, I am extremely happy that Marvel didn't get the license. Besides, I think Six Flags(which features Warner Bros characters) & Universal Studios(which features Warner Bros' version of Harry Potter) are better parks when it comes to rides. Disney is all about people in giant animal costumes.

OK, for those of you that know me, it's no surprise I'd turn up on this thread!! I've been getting ready for C2E2 and haven't had time to respond until now.
-AWESOME NEWS!!!!! VERY glad that DC got the license, I'm going to assume it's due to their relationship with Mattel. For those of you wanting this mini to become an ongoing, it's going to take some PRETTY big numbers for DC to even consider it, so LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!! I'll explain more on how we can do that on a later date, but after reading 12 pages of this thread, I'm so glad that most of you are really excited for this. I am to! I like the creative team, Tan is just coming off a run on The Savage Hawkman, so I'm interested to see what he does with Stratos.
-For anyone that doesn't have a Local Comic Shop:
-I will HAPPILY get you the comics. The store that I work at doesn't have a store on their website, BUT we can handle this easily through PM's and email. Here's the deal: First, I'm NOT making ANY money off of this. They'll be cover price, and I will ship anyway you want and charge actual shipping. My goal is for everybody that wants a comic to get a comic. Again, this is not a way to make money for the store that I work at or myself. Growing up in central Wisconsin, I know what it's like not to have a comic store anywhere near you. My email address is Batkid03@aol.com so hit me up if you need/want anything.
-As for everyone else, in a couple of days(time permitting)I'm going to explain how important it is to get down to your comic shop and pre-order the comic. It's really going to help in the long run. Yes, the fact that it's published by DC REALLY helps, but still, some retailers are going to scoff at this, and we have to make sure that they know there's plenty of He-Fans and She-Ravers out there that want to buy the comic!!!!
-And yes, if you live in Chicago, there's gonna be a big release party. Details to come as soon as I get dates. It's gonna be great to sell He-Man comics again!!!!!
I love it when a plan comes together.
