If 200x had been done in a direct "vintage" style ... how would it have fared?

When 200x came along, many (and I count myself),whist loving the detail and expanded character given to many, weren't all that struck by some of the warped scales and design styles.

So I've been thinking... if 200x had been released in a purely "vintage"* style, how do you think it would have fared? Would it have lasted longer? Died a quicker death? Or maybe ended up about the same.

    * - When I say vintage, I don't literally mean vintage re-releases. Sure lightly update and adapt characrters, but I'm talking about more direct conversion of vintage designs, without all of the additions and alterations that 200x saw.

I guess in one sense it woulda been like the Classics but released 10 years ago, but some (again, I include myself) never felt that the hyper-detailed/anime/whatever-you-care-to-class-it-as never melded well with such a mythological feeling line. If this particular design style had been backed off and we'd seen everything in a more "traditional" style, how do you think they revived franchise woulda played out? Discuss, my friends, discuss....

I probably would have liked it better- certainly in terms of the vehicles and especially Castle Grayskull. Some of 2002's changes/additions to characters worked for me (Tri-Klops, Zodak, Skeletor, Orko), whereas others really did not (He-Man's accessories, Sy-Klone's asian influences & the honking big ring, the giant shoulder pad on MAA, Fisto, Rattlor). Looking at all of it ten years later, I feel like the 2002 reboot was a real mixed bag- in terms of the toys that were put out.

if the 200x figures had shared parts / molds, the line would be considered profitable.

I would have liked them better had everyone not looked like anorexic hunchbacks with tiny heads. The cartoon was cool though and I did recently buy a Prince Adam since he is my namesake but the deformities are what turned me off back when these toys were at retail.

Back in the 200x days, I feel like it was the top of the time for properties such as Dragonball Z, and the anime look was hot with kids. They tried the re-release of the vintage molds, and I'm not sure how they did, but I think given the time frame, they went with what was hot, though I am not sure a vintage type release would have done worse....
