    The Cabin in the Woods

The trailers for this have been pretty vague about what this movie is about. There's a mysterious cabin and some weird technology involving some college kids. Well there's a good reason for that. The less you know the better. Five college kids head to a rural cabin for the weekend. Meanwhile there's these guys in an office talking about a strange event that's about to take place that seems completely random with the story of the college kids.

That's all I can say without giving anything else away. This is a really refreshing horror movie. Yes it's a horror movie. It parodies the elements of other horror movies such as everyone splitting up to survive, but remains a real horror movie. It starts out like a very stereotypical lost in the woods horror story, but becomes much bigger than that in the later acts. It also offers an explanation to every other horror movie, such as who, what, and why Jason, Michael Myers, and Samara from The Ring do what they do and why the victims act the way they do.

It's not scary, but very entertaining, bloody, gory, and even very funny. If you're a horror fan, try seeing this knowing as little as possible.

If you see only one horror film in your life, see 'The Cabin in the Woods'. BRILLIANT.

LOVED The Cabin in the Woods.

It is a must see, and the sooner the better, you don't want anyone to spoil it for you.

I've not been keeping up on this movie, so the heads-up is much appreciated.

I agree it is so well written, especially the scenes with Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins.

Loved it! I went and saw it on Saturday night. Very, very fun. So much I want to say, but I don't want to spoil anything for anyone.

    Fantastic flick!!!

Do try to watch it knowing very little about the movie, though.

It is not as clever as it wants to be. Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is a similar movie that was released in 2006 and it is better.

I caught this a week ahead at a special screening and really was surprised by how good it turned out to be. Wasn't so into it until about 20 minutes in... once it gets going... hoo-boy! 'Twas a hell of a lot of fun Most likely going to catch it again while it's still in the theatres...

Awesome! Thanks for posting this! My friend and I were frantically reading that board when they were showing it, and cracking up.

I immediately noticed the "Deadites" on there. That's an awesome nod to another movie with a cabin int he woods. :-) "Witches" being followed by "Sexy Witches" also cracks me up. And it was so awesome seeing most of these things at the end of the movie. We jumped for joy when the unicorn showed up!

I LOVED this movie. I stayed away from any and all news about the movie and I am glad I did. However, even if someone told me the basic plot of the movie it still wouldn't have been spoiled. It is really the journey.

    SPOILER

So people realize that the ancient elder gods in the movie is really us, the viewer right? The whole movie idea is about them creating something to please us. deep stuff ey? lol

I liked that movie as well but I like this one better. The dialog, acting etc was just better but they are both different enough to not really be comparable to each other in my book.

Ha yeah I loved witch and sexy witch and then saw unicorn. The moment I saw a unicorn running down the hall I started laughing really really hard. Easily one of my favorite deaths of the movie.
I want NA Skeletor and Rio Blast and I want them now!

There's a visual companion for this that's selling out pretty fast due to the popularity of the film.

How do they figure? The Old Ones are obviously HP Lovecraft creatures.

You're thinking literally. They're a metaphor for horror movie fans.

You know, this really does make lots of sense because it explains:

Some of the scenes and dialogue where the two men in the control room are discussing with other staff members that what is happening at the cabin isn't just about pleasing themselves, but that others are watching who also need to be satisfied.

I originally saw the beings as a Lovecraft reference as well (which they most certainly are), but the idea of the viewers being the true "judges" of the horror that ensuues really makes a lot of sense.

Please don't shoot me for asking a seemingly dumb question , but is this a horror movie?

I haven't seen it, but have seen a lot of great reviews about it. However, I don't watch horror movies so wanted to ask first.

It's like a love letter to horror movies, but more of a horror comedy.
