    The Loincloth Thread

To most of society loincloths are perhaps a laughable piece of clothing, but for MOTU they are absolutely foundational to the property. In this thread we celebrate the MAJESTY OF THE LOINCLOTH!!!

So what is a loin? And why does it need a cloth?

    loin |loin|
    noun (usu. loins)
the part of the body on both sides of the spine between the lowest (false) ribs and the hipbones.
    • ( loins) chiefly poetic/literary the region of the sexual organs, esp. when regarded as the source of erotic or procreative power : he felt a stirring in his loins at the thought.
    • ( loin) a large cut of meat that includes the vertebrae of the loins : loin of pork with potatoes.
    PHRASES
    gird ( up) one's loins see gird 1 .
ORIGIN Middle English : from Old French loigne, based on Latin lumbus.

    ...

And I guess it needs a cloth because do you really want to see what He-Man's got going on beneath it?

If this was 200X, then you might have a thread. The loincloths are all the same because they are Classicized. In 200X everyone had unique loincloths.

Not true... Draego-Man for example has a longer loincloth that most figures... presumably because Dragon's have more junk to cover up?

All you need is give the figure a little bath in hot water, and you can pull the loincloth down and expose the total lack of detain underneath. Just make sure to put it back on the right way, because the pelvis looks fairly nondescript if you've already removed the legs (recommendable for easier loincloth removal and replacement).

And to avoid slipping too far off the topic, I'm definitely a fan of the loincloths. Not only do they fit the setting of barbarian fantasy, they do a great job hiding the hip joints without hindering articulation too much. Who'd have known back when the original toyline was being designed.

That's an interesting point, and basically I see the loincloth as one of the quintessential features of the MOTU line. Look at Star Wars or G I Joes for example... what makes a MOTU figure a MOTU figure IS that loincloth piece. Its actually pretty ingenious when you think about it.

I wish we had the personalized loincloths from 200X... Never understood why MEr-Man, an aquatic being would wear a furry loincloth...

I still would like special sculpted loincloths for characters that had unique one in 200x.

I've never liked the MOTUC loincloths because they're longer than the Filmation/vintage look. That just limits leg movement, and frankly looks weird. Like the guys should be wearing kilts or something. Wish they'd stuck with the traditional "furry briefs" look of yore.
