Garbage Pail Kids officially back, Brand New Series 1 coming fall, Series 2 Spring

After a few series of Flashback it seems Topps has newfound faith in the property

Topps is returning this year with a new series of Garbage Pail Kids.

The last original series came out in 2007, according to Topps Editor Colin Walton. Since then, Topps has produced Garbage Pail Kids Flashbacks, reliving some of the old cards we loved as children.

The new set is going to be fun and inspired by the cards of old.

“We’re trying to keep the art and type of jokes more similar to the original ’80s cards,” Walton said. “The Flashbacks do really well for us. I liked the old feel.”

That is REALLY cool! Glad to hear they are coming out with a new series! I stopped collecting them because I already spend WAY TOO MUCH $$$ on toys and collectibles.

Yes those are from series 8, we should see them by summer or at the latest fall. They will come up for solicitation shortly I believe

This is good to know. For a while, I was back into collecting GPK and managed to get most of the old series - except a US version of Series 1. I collected the new series, but it became a lot cheaper to buy an entire set off of eBay than try and collect a whole set.

Once the flashback series came out, I sorta' drifted away from it, but an all-new series 8 is welcome news.

I picked up the July 2012 issue of Previews (TMNT on front/DCnU 52 Superman issue #0 Cover) and on page 376 (trading card (orange) section) there is a solicit for "Garabage Pail Kids Series 1 Stickers".

I'm not going to retype the solicit but they are $2.09 a pack and and will be out in September. The sticker they show is "D. Jay"

They just came out this week, Walmart seems to have gotten them first (we are still waiting on a hobby case order)

We picked up 10 packs, they are really nice and remind me more of the 80's series then the relaunch in the 2000's

Yeah I am sure the success of the Flashback series which celebrated the 80's cards pushed them. I am glad because this series does not seem to have the stupid gimmick stuff that the 2000's series had

That is awesome, on the bad side its a B4 card which is reserved for Bonus boxes which are a SUPER pain in the butt to get a hold of

got 3 single packs and a box ($10.49) from a Targets today.

The bonus sticker was B5A Knitting Natalie.

This was old school GPK.

The only interesting card I got was lenticular card

I picked up 3 Bonus boxes from Target, going to open them tomorrow. I really like this series of cards, we got quite a few of the Adam Bomb History cards.

Have you seen the captain america one , he is neat

There is a checklist, we bought 10 packs of regular and 3 bonus boxes and now are just 2 cards away from a complete base set (we are missing one Adam Bomb History card and 8 of the hologram type cards). That is probably the quickest that has happened in years

Topps just announced Brand New Series 2 for March

In 2013, the company will put out two new series.

This decision was easily made based on the success of the 2012 series.

According to Topps, GPK Brand New Series 1 was the highest selling set in eight years, and the Facebook community grew 21 percent in three months from the launch in August.

So Topps is putting more in the second series to keep collectors excited.

Brand New Series 2 will feature 146 characters (compared to 110 in the previous release). There will be 110 returning characters with 55 new images, and A and B variations. There will also be 36 new characters.

Inserts include Glow in the Dark, Foldees (perforated cards that can be folded multiple ways to create nine jokes with one card), and 3D Cards. In addition, printing plates, parallels, sketch cards and hobby-exclusive bonus cards are included.
