Ka-Boom!![]()
From Jim Bowers:
Pat Miller, the master colorist at Warner Bros., has begun mastering Masters of the Universe tonight for Blu-ray. He told me that the film is in bad shape and the opticals need a lot of work. I know the movie is a guilty pleasure for some of you, so soon you will have another 80s Cannon film to enjoy!

I have already seen the movie in HD broadcast. I wonder where it was mastered from because it looked decent.
Μπιστ Μαν, ανόητε τριχομούρη!
Awesome! The DVD is great, but I may have to get the blu-ray (especially if they have some cool special features).
Successful transactions with PaulJustice, bobshumway, ThunderPuncher, SonofKeldor, Eterniandreams, Xavion, darksword, dr phiz, Epizo1, Shankor, Shecky, He-Dad, Phil.Pastel, Baddwarff, sublimesting, richalot, He-Man54, anytimepally, Mysterio, Umbloo, Lich Leech, GFunny, greenstar1981, crimsondragon, Man-E-MoodZ, and yakkotank.
I love this film now - but lack of resemblance to Filmation gave my ten year old self a petted lip at the Glasgow cinema in 1987 in which I viewed it.
It needs this treatment and the fact that it is being restored by a master is fitting. This could have been a rushed out film - and maybe the lack of time spent on stop motion or creature effects is a regret - but Goddard and the production crew enjoyed making it. Christina Pickles and Courtney Cox recall it with fondness and it captures a truly eighties zeitgeist. Star Wars, Back To The Future, Brat Pack, Scifi-horror/monster movies (if toned down) are all present and correct and if Tarantino/Rodriguez ever did an eighties blockbuster homage in the way they celebrated 70s trash Grindhouse, their production should look like this.
Hell Yeah! This is a great year for He-Man indeed. Another long wanted item comes to life.
- Figures
- Comic
- Filmation CD

Fear is faith in failure
Cool. It is a definite buy for me.
Fantastic news.Let's hope for plenty of extras, including concept art.
Great news! Does anyone know how long it usually takes to finish such a job? Any ideas when the bluray could be released?
So do you think the Toy Masters people and Goddard will be able to provide the featurettes they were talking about doing? I wonder if Goddard is involved...
Is the extended farewell scene going to be included in this release?

MY FEEDBACK
I wonder if it will look significantly better? I'm happy with my DVD.
The Toy Masters documentary looks great, it would be a crime not to included it. I can't imagine that WB would do a Blu-ray without extra's like extended scenes and directory commentary.
How awesome would it be if Mattel got the toy rights in conjunction with the release of the Blu-ray. One can hope.

This is a must-buy.....super stoked!!!

I was asked to leave this off the main page for now. I guessing the plans for the DVD haven't been finalized, so I'm guessing we need to wait for an official announcement before putting it on the main page.![]()
Great news, now i need a blu-ray system too![]()
I did ask the Toy Masters guys if they or Goddard's material might be incorporated into such a release. They said:
"Honestly, I wouldn't hold out hope. But anything's possible. The good news is, either way, you guys will get to see it!"

That could certainly help with DVD sales. I could even see the film being sold on Mattycollector as part of the deal with them.
I really want to see a special edition of this film. I also wouldn't mind seeing a few of the old FX get fixed, such as the He-Man minature (model) flying on the hoverboard, which looked awful even in 87. I still remember the audience laughing at that first shot of the model. That was a bad optical that could be easily fixed for a special edition.
