Magnets in feet and metal figure stands?

I was discussing this with a friend the other day. It seems that tiny magnets in the feet of action figures and thin metal figure stands would go a long way in solving many of the frustrations that customers have with posing and loose ankles.

Having magnets in the feet would be great for a lot of different surfaces and hold the figures securely in a wide variety of poses.

I suppose the metal stands might be more expensive to produce, but I wouldn't know much about those kinds of details. They could be stamped out of thin pieces of aluminum or sheet metal, or just added to the underside of plastic stands. All metal stands could have a problem with sharp edges, but I'm sure there are manufacturing methods to get around this. It would be great because the figures wouldn't be limited to standing on the pegs and the stands wouldn't have those unsightly holes anymore.

I think this kind of thing would be great on MOTUC, especially if each figure came with a stand!

I have seen people put magnets in their gijoe figures and they worked pretty well.

It would possibly have been a good idea at the start but it would suck if they started this now.

    Starcom!!!!
    Yes!

On a serious note, you can buy cylinder shaped N 52 magnets that fit in the pegholes.
Then place a magnet or metal plate under the stand.

Very nice idea... But would Mattel think it was too expensive?

Older figures could be retro-fitted with tiny peg size magnets that could be pushed into the hole.

They make really small magnets that are ridiculously strong.

Cool idea. I'd want all the figures to have it though!

Check out the N52 magnets. There are a lot there that would work great.

I guess you could also drill small holes to fit larger magnets. I bet they would work with the existing MOTUC stands if you placed a chunk of metal underneath.

I think I've got a custom project coming up!

Figure stands could be a roll of scotch tape and a stack of bar coasters!

My guess is that even though this is an "adult collector" line, Mattel's safety standards would probably not allow for magnets like these. They really had some issues with magnets a few years back in regards to child safety, right?

I would say yes, they would say it was too expensive, and if they didn't say that, they would say they could do it but they would have to cut the accessories. I do think it would be a great idea. Oh logistics......

How would this fix loose ankles? It wouldn't, it would just mean the feet stay in place, and your figure would still be slumped over.

It wouldn't solve the loose ankles problem, but it would be an alternative to using pegs and allows more freedom to position the figure rather than be restricted to stationary pegs locations.

Plus you can stick them on your refrigerator --- And THAT would be AWESOME! LOL
