It's probably because of Vikor, but I would love if it was a mistake on Mattel's part.![]()
Based on crack research by our friend, Vlcan, the wonderful Power and Honor book states "Vykon" was the name given to the character by Roger Sweet.
Exhibit A:
Now we have the newly presented (and highly controversial) Vykron!
So the question is: Is this supposed to be the same name? Is the Power and Honor book mistaken or did Mattel get the name wrong? Or is there something else going on entirely?
DUN DUN DUN!!!
It's probably because of Vikor, but I would love if it was a mistake on Mattel's part.![]()
Thx for doing this NorthCoast. JonWes mentioned it could be a licensing issue as well. But if this name is wrong I'd be a little upset about it. How could you get the SDCC name wrong.
I think Vikor=Vykon. Plain and simple. Don't want to stir the pot up too much.
Again we need Mr. Santalucia,Mr. Pelt,Mr. Eatock,Mr. O'Donoghue or Mrs. Gelehrter to chime in on this wether or not it's spelled correctly in the P&H book.

Vykon is what we know today as Vikor...
Vykron however is the concept of He-Man/MOTU with futuristic techno elements, thus they named him Vykron short for Viking and Tron, at least that's how I'm guessing.
Epic Metal music rules the universe.
Exhibit A: LOL!
That's great.
Perhaps the package should have a big question mark on it instead of "Vykron".
So Mr. Sweet referred to the concept drawing done by Mr. Taylor(which is the Vikor drawing) as Vykon. This is the same figure we now know as Vikor in the MOTUC. Yeah confusing isn't it. So then I was wondering why we didn't go w/ Vykon as the name for the SDCC figure that we now know as Vykron. Still confusing to you guys & gals. Just was curious why Mattel didn't. licensing maybe...trademark or whatever I think I got it.
The line from the beginning was to merge technology with sword and sorcery, and that's how MOTU started.
As for Vykron, I'm not totally sure how they came up with this name, but looking at the concepts and the history of MOTU, it made some sense to me that they went with this route. I could be wrong though...

As long as the package comes with a burst that says "DIAPER INCLUDED!!", I'm cool.![]()
Maybe I should have titled this "The Case of the Mysterious "R" or "How I Stopped Caring and Learned to Love My Incomplete Set".![]()
Thanks to everyone at Power-Con! It was an incredible experience!
Does it matter? He could rename it anything he wants. Either way I'll throw a fake outrage over it.
The only trademark I found related to Vykron was the one owned by Mattel. Interestingly, they didn't file for it until April 16th. I'm a patent guy, not a trademark guy, so I couldn't speak to what kind of delay there is between filing an application and being given a filing date. Maybe they really did wait until that close to the announcement to file, but that seems a little risky since TG had packaging already in his video.
In any event, there are a couple of "Vykon" filings, but they aren't for toys. Maybe they wanted a name with absolutely nothing related to it trademark-wise. Maybe they thought Vykon and Vikor were just too similar (n and r being easy to mis-read).

He might just be remembering "Vikor" as "Vykon" incorrectly. He also says in the book that Tri-Klops is a hero. *shrugs*
Anyway, I had this in another thread, but deleted it and am moving it here:
EDIT: By the way, the only actual document I see in the Power & Honor book with a name given to the lead character in Roger Sweet's vision of the toy line is "Megaton-Man." The "Vykon" that's in the book, refers to what he called Mark Taylor's "Vikor." So, if anything (from my understanding), the SDCC exclusive should be called "Megaton-Man" as none of the other name's were Roger Sweet's creation, referring to his 3 prototypes. He only referred to them as the "He-Man trio" (and that was probably years later, because I think the name "He-Man" wasn't thought up at the time).
Anyway, long story short: Megaton-Man.![]()

Maybe they just don't want to use the version that Sweet came up with for legal reasons so they just added the "r"
