Every month we recorded over the tapes (they were numbered 1-31) so unfortunately wouldn't be able to. And Hollywood Video went bankrupt, all our stores closed and we were all outta jobs so thats it for the "ghost". Like I said wasn't much to see anyway....no figure, mist, nothing....just a row of dvds falling off a shelf at the same time by themselves.

First of all, I'm not creating this thread to gain attention, or to try & be funny. I honestly want to know if anyone has some insight on what I, and others are seeing in my house.

The first time I saw it was last year, maybe the summer. I was in one of the bedrooms, and saw a odd black mass of smoke/mist up high next to the ceiling. I just stared at it, because even though I'm calling it smoke, it clearly wasn't, nor did I smell it. It was staying in one spot. I moved closer, and it started moving up, and then disappeared at the ceiling. I went up in my attic to make sure there wasn't a fire, but never saw a thing.

I never told anyone, and never seen it again, in til last week. It appeared in the living room by the big window around 9pm at night. I got up from my chair to look, and I SWEAR to you, it went from a smokey appearance, to the shape of a black feather, THEN to the shape of a black pen or pencil(I mean long & skinny), then floated up, and disappeared like last year.

I was nervous all night, and felt too embarrassed to call someone, because it sounds so goofy & off the wall. So again, I tell NO one. Then, this last Saturday, my best friend and his wife came over & stayed the night in my extra room. The following morning, Justin & I are having breakfast, and we hear Steph scream. She said as she was getting ready, she saw a black puffy ball of smoke behind her in the reflection of the mirror. But when she turned around, it was moving through the closet door. I of course then told them about my encounters with it.

Now, I'm NOT one that believes in ghosts or the supernatural, period. I feel if they exist, why is it no one ever sees them? My grandma, who lived here before me said the house always had "activity", but she said she always liked it. She would tell us things she said happened, one with a antique doll that I won't go into.

I, nor the rest of the family ever put stock into it, and always shrugged it off. So, can anyone think of any reasonable explanations to what this is? I'm not ready to start believing in gobblins just yet. Any help would be great!

And no...I don't live on a weird island with polar bears.

Could you photograph it or record it as a video?
That would eliminate the possibility of it being a product of imagination.

On a side note, keep in mind that "supernatural" is just a fancy word for "unknown".

Aaaanyway, shame there's no large scientific study about things like this.
I mean, there's either a lab test that doesn't really prove/disprove anything or bunch of quacks like Ghosthunters or people who do not have required notability to be believable (No one's gonna believe you if you're just a random joe investigating this stuff, despite the evidence you gathered).
People ARE seeing strange things and it must be seriously investigated on the spots where stuff like this is being reported.

I wouldn't go for that unless the priest could prove to me in advance that he has some type of magical power, and is, therefore, capable of doing something that I couldn't do myself.

If something flies across my room right now for no apparent reason, there's no way for me to determine the cause. It could be act of God, a ghost, an astral traveler having an out of body experience, an angel, a demon, a gravity hiccup, an invisible animal that we won't ever discover, etc. There's not much sense in investigating such events. We might be able to prove that unexpected things are occurring, but the investigations would never get much past that.

No, I decided against a poll. It's best to stay away from things that upset you. Out of sight, out of mind. I learned that last year in group therapy sessions

Pretty much the same idea with Islamic ways, give 'em a few words of god and they will have no other choice except leave.

Well after asking my great Uncle about it..He says the black smoke is common in this house. He said once in the 60s a game of bridge came to a complete stop when it came down onto the game table.

That's pretty interesting. So several people simultaneously experienced this same phenomenon decades ago. Then, over the years, your grandmother experienced the moving of physical objects. Now, you, along with a friend, have recently experienced the shadow-mass in different locations at different times.

I would say the home certainly has a track record. But as long as it doesn't escalate, and based on the history you've recounted, there is no reason to assume it should, you're taking the right stance - "no big deal."

If nothing else, you've got an interesting tale to tell.

This course of action actually doesn't have the best track record for solving these types of unique problems. In some instances, it can actually make it worse.

Think about it - how many people try to find strength and solace in their respective faith when paranormal events occur? How many continue to tell tale of their troubles year after year? If blessings worked with any regularity, this stuff would never get a foothold in people's lives.
