He was the savage beast that rampaged and could not be controlled. A one-minded, killing machine! Well...that's gone now too. When Gygor was first shown, most people thought he was a repainted Gorilla Frodd figure from DCUC with a new head (which, he isn't). Well...now this MOTUC bio pretty much MAKES him Gorilla Grodd. He now speaks, thinks and is now a ruler over a kingdom. It really bothers me because in DC EVERY Gorilla man/creature seems to be smart, but Gygor was just a damn, killer gorilla! Now the only difference between him and pretty much any other Gorilla in DC is his colouring. Ripping Vykron in half was pretty badass, but yes...Gygor is not the type to be in an arena (if he's man-like or otherwise). He's a freakin killing MACHINE! He would murder EVERYONE there! No mercy...because he's a freakin lemon-lime gorilla!

Human intelligence = SUPER lame for Gygor. Savage, animal, killing machine = awesome Gygor. EDIT: I just re-read Gygor's bio...and it seems he thinks in that too. Well...as long as he's more savage than human...but this bio makes him smart, because he plotted to become Lord of the Vine Jungle. *frowny face*
Really? I've been under the impression since his intro into MOTUC that Gygor was, from the beginning, a highly intelligent and sentient, but extremely vicious military man (ape, whichever)

    I honestly can say:

    I like it.

I thought the designs are stupid and cheesy. They look unfinished to me or commissioned work sketches.

I canīt take him serious but now we are supposed to not take him very serious because he is a arena champion who gets killed by an ape.

And now even his very different outfits(do i smell fantastic fashion potential here..?) make sense, in a way.

I think this bio was a response the overwhelmingly negative reaction this figure generated, and a fairly smart one too. The reaction now seems to be

"The guy I hate gets ripped in half by a giant gorilla! Cool!"

I imagine that if he were well liked, he would have been a later addition to the heroic warriors with otherworldly tech adapted for him by Man At Arms or something.

i'm quite certain this bio was written and printed well before the figure was shown.

This is what makes conspiracy theorists look so bad. It's always better to spend at least a few minutes doing some research and apply a little bit of logic before voicing a wild assertion. The bio was written prior to the reveal. The only reason we even know what the bio says is because an early production sample is on display this weekend at a comic shop in California.

Now, now. Not everyone understands that these things take some time.

But yes, with packaging lead times being the way they are, this was probably finished at least a month ago if not much, much longer.

It feels weird to get a figure from a guy who was killed by another member in my display! I think that will create " hard feelings" between some of them!

    LOL!

Nice Bio though... Not tied at all with the main story! Fair enough for me.

*facepalm* Conspiracy theorists, really? I said the bio was a response to fan reaction, not the bio was given to them by Roswell aliens. First, what makes conspiracy theorists look bad are conspipracy theroists. Second, there is no conspiracy here, or even an accusation of one. I said that Mattel was giving it's customers something they wanted. Novel concept there . . . .

Wow I might be in the minority here, but I actually really love the quirky and historic nature of the figure, and think the outfit system is quite cool and innovative. HOWEVER, this Bio? Not so much. First off, seriously they're going to say that Vykron was kind of an outrageous moron who just dressed up in these outfits to entertain the crowd? He didn't use the army costume to fight on the battlefield salvaged from a time warp that brought period american military to eternia? He didn't use the space gear to jam around with the predecessors for the galactic guardians? ..... And TORN IN HALF??? That's waay too graphic lol (although it is funny).

I like where the bio placed him in the timeline - Between Wun-Dar and Oo-Larr, whether he was a He-Man or not. I do wonder WHY he's wearing the He-Man/Grayskull symbol. I wish they would have explained that. I also really like that his bio has made me feel like I really don't need to display the spaceman or tank looks on my shelves. I didn't like them that much. I wish the bio wasn't as graphic in the violence aspect. It would have been enough to tell us the Gygor killed him, but I think the "ripping in half with his bare hands" aspect goes a little too far, especially for the Masters of the Universe property.

Well, when I re-read Gygor's bio...it does read like he has human intelligence. I was just being hopeful. I'm just tired of the genius gorilla in comic/superhero type media. I just want Gygor to be savage/ape **** crazy!

I'm kind of the same way. I think the figure is okay (perfect for the 30th Anniversary though) and not too fond of the bio. It's not the worst bio, but not the best. I'd put it somewhere in the middle. I do respect that they tried something different here though, and that the bio is about the CHARACTER and not trying to tell a big chunk of the overall story. Some bios are like "Eternia is at war with the Snake men for centuries..." "by the way, this character is Flipshot." That's an obvious exaggeration, but there are a couple bios that do not really tell about the character, and focus mainly on the overall story.

That's actually a very good point! I'll still probably end up displaying all of them, but on my extra He-Man and King Grayskull (so I only have to buy 1 Vykron).

It's funny, but I have to agree about the bio (which I liked) actually making me decide I DON'T want to buy multiples of him. I kind of think I might just get one guy to fight Gygor on my shelf and switch out his look from time to time. Hmm.

Well the bio is fine, but seems they missed a huge opportunity by making him one character. If they had described each look as a different character (three brothers... three connected characters...something) they'd have more people wanting to buy 3 sets to display all three.

I was thinking about getting three at SDCC actually but now...if it is just one guy I guess I only need one set.

I like the bio, it actually kind of explains why the armour is so cheesy. he's a wwf character essentially. his barbarian look sans the hat is pretty bad ass IMO, but the other two are silly, i think with this bio it's acknowledged and it really helps justify it. also explains the poor fit of some of the items.

my ONLY problem with this bio is that like the figure itself, it sells his playability factor but the line is aimed at adults. for the bulk of us, display trumps play, so to have the play value outweigh the display value, it lets us down as a collective.

I like the bio for Vykron as well. I think the figure is pretty gaudy, but the bio helps justify that. I love that it beefed up GyGor, who I thought was a great figure to begin with and exoldined how he became Lord of the Vine Jungle. Also, people shouldn't take his "Ultimate Eternian Champion" tag line so seriously. No more different than other clasic tag line that professional wrestlers use, like the Immortal Hulk Hogan, "the Cerebral Assassin" Triple-H, or "the World'S Strongest Man" Mark Henry, though that one could be true. Lol.

I really like the direction Mattel went with for this bio: making Vykron more of a footnote in Eternia's history prior to Adam rather than a main part of the storyline. This type of stuff really contributes to the whole "universe building" side of things.

    A few random thoughts:

~The bio for Vykron relates thematically with the original intent of the Sweet prototypes: to show how the character (later called "He-Man") could be used as a more generic warrior in a variety of settings. Vykron is a warrior who uses various weapons and costumes as part of his gladiatorial persona. The line "fighting in any environment at any time" really seems to summarize nicely the original intention of the Sweet trio prototypes.

~I see Vykron's label as the Ultimate Eternian Champion much as I see wrestling names like The Ultimate Warrior or Mr. Perfect: It is about showmanship. Noone sets out with a name like Decent Eternian Fighter or Mr. OK. You choose a name/title that builds yourself up and attempts to gain crowd favor while intimidating your opponents.

~Perhaps with a name similar to Vikor and armor similar to the He-Man/ Grayskull armor, Vykron is just using imagery that alludes to famous Eternian heroes and legends. I keep reading folks say that we don't need another "Master of Disguise"- where does the bio say anything about Vykron being a Master of Disguise? I see that he is a showman who wears outfits to win the favor of the crowds.

~Very cool that Gygor gets some history here. You have to wonder what the circumstances were regarding Gygor fighting Vykron. Was this a typical match or even a planned match?

~Just because Vykron dies doesn't mean he wasn't a great warrior and champion for a number of years. Most champions always have some point when they are either defeated or are forced to retire.

~Not sure what to say about the claims that this bio jumps the shark because it is too violent. Its based on a series of action figures filled with characters armed with sharp and pointy weapons, a guy who lost his arm and jaw, and a guy whose face was melted off with acid. What does everyone expect the characters do with all of those weapons?

I had a conversation with my friedn about the flack Dark Shadows the movie is getting from fans of the series, esp those who are let down because Depp and Burton say they are huge fans of the property, I said, maybe they are fans of the camp (most stuff from the past esp 70s and 80s has some unintentional camp value) of the show more than the serious tone, I think this property has some fans that want the masters of the universe to essentially be friendly rivals. no one wants anyone DEAD, they just want them out of their hair one way or another. but not death.

it's fine to feel that way, but i think for most of us we want the stakes to be WAY higher.

It achieved its goal: explained the character, included another figure you may now want to buy during the next Matty Madness sale, and officially added another character to the MOTUC roster Mattel could make a figure of with Choloh...

And we all thought Gygor would never amount to anything useful...

Thanks, you crazy monkey! You killed the lamest MOTUC character ever!

I would, however, love to have a variant where he rips open and sprays gore everywhere.
