I wonder if they will get enough people to subscribe? I would buy Jinx, Cover Girl, Boxing dude, Klaw and the purple guy if they were at retail.
The thing a lot of people seem to be ignoring is that Mattel didn't HAVE to "dramatically" increase the price. Sub holders knew in 2013 they would also have to pay $22 per figure (that was a given). The only reason the prices are going up, is because Mattel wants to include more accessories and elaborate paint decos/ops. If they handled the 2013 line the way the 2012 line was held, the prices would be able to remain the same. Toyguru said this and that it was a "hard choice."
This "dramatic" price increase is not a necessity. I'm not supporting a boycott either, but I'm going by what we were told. If fans had a choice between the following, what would you pick?:
- Loose a few paint decos/ops (the metallic highlights/fine detailing) and a few accessories (2012 count so far is 2 figures for paint and 5 accessories)
OR
- Dramatic Price increase for ALL figures, beasts, etc. (even though some or most will have the same level of paint and accessories as they would at the old price)
I think they should have made it non-sub holder prices for everyone and figures that have lots of accessories could have been a beast slot. Say, Filmation Hordak with Imp and arm attachments for $30, for example.
http://forums.mattycollector.com/eve...657#5751053657Toyguru: The Horsemen tend to "overdeco" figures. Every figure in 2012 is delivering $22.00 worth of paint apps. In 2013 we are dramatically raising prices so we can afford more paint and accessories. If we wanted to deliver all the figures exactly as the 4HM painted the protos we would need to charge more and we already sold in the sub for 2012, so that is not an option. Legally we can't raise prices on the sub after it is sold in. This is why we will start 2013 at higher prices.
Price increase = fewer customers. I think, less paint and loosing a handful of accessories (like this year) is much more favourable. Mattel will not make as much money with a price increase due to lost customers. The quicker you increase the cost, the shorter the length of the toy line gets. So, if by making this small sacrifice for next year results in one extra year of the toy line, that's one extra year of revenue for Mattel.![]()
