Good News! Toyguru Says "MOTUC Is Doing Great" II

I put part two in the title because this is the second time that fans need to be reminded on how well the line is actually doing, despite their displeasure on swapped forearms, Digital River, SDCC exclusive choices, Digital River, bio deaths and Digital River.

Enjoy the pleasant news, guys. We aren't Ghostbusters, DC Universe or Young Justice.

Follow Up about completing vintage updates

In my earlier question about a contingency plan being in place should the performance of the line start to drop you really didn't answer what I was wanting to know--namely should the line go south before you reach your plotted out release schedule through 2016-17 will you make sure there is a back up plan to get out characters like Ram Man, Two Bad, Mekaneck, Mantenna, Scorpia, the Pop ladies etc etc.

I realize now you are working under the assumption the line will go until the end so you are interspersing non vintage items to fill out the line which is fine if the line continues but if it doesn't I don't want concept characters or 30th anniversary newly invented figures in my collection if it means no Ram Man, Mekaneck, Jitsu, Two Bad, Modulok, Glimmer etc. I'd much rather you err on the side of caution and get these highly sought after figures to us rather than dragging their releases out even if it could mean the line prematurely folds because there are no A-listers left only 200x or concept characters or NA stuff to be released.

The line is doing great and their is no indication of it going away anytime soon. There always seems to be a lot of doom and gloom on the boards, but even though the 2012 subs sold less then the 2011 subs we are SO FAR above and beyond the min number of units that even if subs dropped by half we would still be fine.

DCU has sold the bare min to keep the sub going. GB did not sell enough and the sub was canceled.

MOTUC is selling fantastic and I can't imagine we won't get another few years if not many many years. And at a rate of 25-30 figs per year after one or two more years their really won't be too many MIA characters.

Lets wait until after the SDCC reveals and all the info we will discuss concerning changes in price and skus. I think after SDCC 2012 a lot of fans will havea big sigh of relief. The line has honestly never bene healthier and has a long life ahead. This isn't a retail line like YJ that needs moms and kids. Collectors have proven they will support MOTUC to the point that we have grown the line well and beyond 12 figures per year. The line is doing great. The doom and gloom is just rampant speculation and honestly I think some of it is uncalled for. We're doing just fine!

Phew. But still... doubt lingers... LOL. I think said doubt will linger until I have Rokkon, Entrapta, Double Trouble, Modulok, Quakke, and Shokoti on my shelves... then I can skip around and go "oh yeah, the line's doing GREAT! It'll go on and on and on..."

We have 25 Vintage figures left. 14 from POP and 14 from NA. I think MOTU can get all of the vintage characters off the table at least (and I can't wait for that to happen because we will need a certain era to come out of retirement to refresh those characters).

This doesn't exactly express what I'm feeling, but it's the only new gif I have on-hand at the moment.

period. I dont know why suddendly we generate this fear. We knew about price rising from 6 months now and I read discussions about it several times. theres gonna be a rising price aound 2-2.5 dollars per figure and maybe 3-3-5 for the beasts.

    my projection (fall 2015):
all the vintage motu (including the three figures form the movie, rock people, rotar and twistoid
POP: queen angella, glimmer, castaspella, peekablue/double trouble, scorpia, madame razz and broom, may be sea hawk.
NA: a dozen of them. for sure: quakke, flogg, hydron, vizar, catra, sagitar and the recently announced nocturna.
Filmation/Mini Comics: theyre too much but theyre gonna produce for sure those figures: lizard man, fang man, strongarm, vultak, geldor, masque, lodar and the demons.

It makes me feel good that the line is so strong. I just hope they dont count on that too much when they decide to push the limits of our acceptance with the price increase. I really would love to continue getting my 2 subs each year. I really had no connection to POP or NA prior to this line and buy those figures purely, well because they are cool and I want a complete collection. But if the price went too high, I could handle skipping on those. Anyways, I am really glad that things are doing well and I will be looking forward to our little chat during Mattypalooza at SDCC. I will be happy to hear you convince us why we shall all sign up for the sub and like it!

I'm still scared until I know the "dramatic" price increase. Also...DCU didn't sell enough subs. They sold 75% on the DC sub thermometer. They still went through with it as a test run and HOPE 2013 sells enough. If not, it will be cancelled. So...that was kind of a factual error in the message.

LOL @ no mention of Voltron

I think it will be fine for a few more years, we are very far away from the thermometer that was used for DCUC or the no comment that followed around GB. They have 2-3 moves to make before we start to worry, 12 figs a year then 6 figs a year are the two warning signs. Till then the rest is just rampant speculation and fear imho

With over 50-60 figs by the end of 2012 the resuse of parts is going to help this line more than any other they make, that concept is part of what powered DCUC through 20 waves. If anything thank god MOTU fans stayed strong from 2008-2011 to give it the foundation to take hits that will be coming to any toyline going on this long (retail or not)

Just sell a five year long subscription with a dollar-per-year-per-figure increase in price and be done with it.

Hopefully if any Doomsday Preppers see this, they can take it as their chill pill and end some of that unnecessary paranoia.

A truly wonderful post to read by Toyguru.

Sounds good, they seem to be very confident about MOTUC. That`s a good thing. Hope they got some heavy fan demanded figs on SDCC, hopefully something from Filmation & Mini Comics...

    Bring on some monster warriors!!!
Last important characters: Two Bad, Tung Lashor, Squeeze, Modulok, Horde Trooper

I know there is a lot of doom and gloomers, but looking at the track record of Mattel I can see why. Great, TG comes and tells us how great this line is doing. The same things were said about DCUC. Then that was cancelled, and Mattel said don't worry we hear you we are just revamping the way it's done. 3 waves of 4 figures were shown. See it's not ending. Well wait those 3 lines were cancelled and now we are just doing these 4 figures, and no word on any other waves.

Mattel was also using the not all the big names at once and spread teams out over time. Everything is planned don't worry. How many incomplete teams are there?

GB had no sign of we may cancel the sub. DC had the counter and GB was just there. Then all of a sudden sorry GB, sub cancelled but you will still get 4 figures. One of those 4 is now an unarticulated SDCC exclusive.

To me Mattel/Scott saying the line is fine, not to worry is the same as them telling us DR and customer service is improving. They can say it as long as they want but until there is some proof to it how can you not question the longevity? This is the same company who says the WR didn't do well enough, but then in a Q&A after that said sell out time doesn't matter because they still sell there quota.

Good to hear the line's doing well. Why wait until after SDCC to begin a discussion about the price increases? The speculation will only worsen because of this delay.

Cool... How about a Castle Grayskull then!!

We get such confusing reports.... The line is doing great, there aren't enough collector's to justify vehicles... We could lose half the subs and still be fine... Not enough demand to get extra large Grayskull shaped items....

The gloom and doom is understandable. The prices go up, the quality goes down... This is the lowest selling sub yet... no more reissues... Lowering the Day of Sale stock...

It's NICE to see messages like this that help smooth things over...

HOPEFULLY there's some truth to it... Like many others, I would be VERY annoyed if we got vikor and Vykron, but did not get Mekanek... It's one thing to pad the line for future years, it's another to leave us hanging...

I agree. Knowing the cost of the items (not the whole year) is important. It will help to reduce sticker-shock. Also, then SDCC will be able to remain more positive. Mattel might get attacked by fans if the price hike is indeed "dramatic."

I'm happy to hear that PR is positive about this line. I also understand, we really have no idea, but this is a nice positive shot in the arm after being reminded of the pending price increase.

I love MOTUC, and hope this line continues as long as possible. Let's be realistic, MOTUC is our last chance to get new Masters figures, close to how we remember them. Long live this collector line!

Where is he getting this 25-30 figs per year number?

    12 monthly slots
    4 a list variants
4 quarterly beasts or 2 packs
    1 sdcc
1 random (ie TOD sorceress, bubble power she-ra)
1 vehicle or oversize (ie windraider, Granamyr)

The most I can see coming from this is 28 if almost all of the beast 2 packs are 2 packs, and the sdcc is also a 2 pack. Are there going to be more SKU's? I hope not. This Year is going to be hard enough on the wallet before the price hikes.

They said they were exploring another add-on sub like the 30th. Personally, I'm cool with that. Those who can get it, will. Those who want to pick and choose, can. It's all good.
