    Is this "THE TAR SWAMP?"

I was told to keep my political opinions to "the tar swamp."

I saw no org section called that.

No the tar swamp is a special hidden forum that you have to ask Val (JVS3) for permission to enter (or possibly any mod I do not know I asked Val) once you have permission it will appear at the very bottom

It's great. If you make it in, you're gonna love it -- scintillating debates, spirited points of view and high intellectual exchanges. It can be a bit scathing at times, but the mods try to keep everyone civil. It's not for the thin-skinned, but an awful lot of fun, I think.

This isn't like a Marvel Comics No-Prize is it?

As in, there's not really even a "tar swamp," but you've just been told to shut up?
    I really hope not.

there have been times when I wonder if it is worth it because topics that start out friendly tend to devolve into a flame war, especially if it involves religion

They barely ever break out into flame wars and then we contain the fire. Religion is always a hotbed item, so it really depends on who participates in the discussion. Its a lot more civil then anyone might suspect. There is a freedom to being able to talk about more adult themed topics.

Yeah, Wolfy, but imo that doesn't happen most of the time. I think we tend to remember the infrequent occasions when things flame to life. But I also think most of the time there's a lively back and forth. There are people I disgaree with on issues, but generally I find them respectful of my points of view and I'm respectful of theirs. I'm also open to finding out about different points of view and have been persuaded to a position opposite my own once in a while. But even if I don't agree with someone, when a position different from my own is championed I appreciate the poster's passion and I think there's much to be learned by giving a civil airing to differing points of view.

EDIT: Just read Mark's post and I agree with that completely. As an aside, Mark and I are on opposite sides of an issue at times, but his input and analyses are always civil and engaging...and the same can be said of you, Wolfy. I'd hate to lose you in The Tar Swamp. As with Mark, I find your contributions are substantive and illuminating.

I think the Tar Swamp is a pretty quiet place. Everyone seems to have stated and restated their positions on 'controversial' issues. There's little hope of convincing others that you are right and they are wrong, so discussion is pretty limited most of the time.

Yeah, personally I think it's a pretty boring and anti-climatic place but I guess I've built up a resistance to controversy with my years of debauchery and bad living.

It's actually a logical and intelligent reaction to the circumstances at hand. Despite the fact that we are pretty much all adults who buy toys (just won a MOC Toy Biz Juggernaut II, LOL), we aren't unintelligent. The subjects discussed in the Tar Swamp are pretty much opinions. I think most of us are smart enough to realize that opinions can and will differ, but there really isn't any such thing as a "right" or "wrong" opinion.

I've been in arguments in the past with people over whether the Seattle Seahawks uniforms are ugly or not. I say they are hideous; others say they look fine. Who was right? Neither of us. An opinion can't be right or wrong. Such is life in the Tar Swamp

I didn't see anyone mention that there's a whole section about the Tar Swamp in the new rules. It lists the Tar Swamp specific rules, as well as instructions how to access it.

    They're right though, PM JVS3.

Ya but that would have implied that people actually read the rules

Oh and I noticed earlier that this was moved to the Tar Swamp before being moved back here. I think it should have been left there because all the "No" replies would have been funny

Could be that, sensorini, but it could also be my apathy and existentionalist point of view.

I seem to remember a thread on women's... Well, let's just say it wasn't about their eyes.

Ahhh, the Tar Swamp. Only place I've ever made a one sentence statement that received a 17 paragraph rebuttal that never mentioned the subject matter of my original, one line statement.
