Do you look forward to variants?

In comparisson to the 2002 line, Classics has benn SO AMAZING in it's handling of variants, they don't overwhelm the line and since they are all done by the horsemen this time around, they are consistent with the other figures. that said, though I do look forward to some variants, I generally don't know what to do with them. I don't display them yet so essentially they are just laying around.

I'm never overly excited to get the variants but since they look good to me, I do get them, eventually I'll have a variant shelf set up, but now as much as I like them they feel a bit of a waste to me, and I'm never excited for the reveal when I hear that they are coming up. though I'm excited to see how dragonblaster Skeletor turns out.

What about you guys? do you look forward to them?

I definitely look forward to variants--more accurately, alternate artistic versions of the main characters (i.e., 200X He-Man, Filmation He-Man, Oo-Larr, NA He-Man, Battleground Teela, 200X Adam, etc.) as opposed to "power-up" variants such as Battle Armor and Thunder Punch. I like those too, but not as much as the others. I see alternate looks as another display option (which I'm very big on) and usually the versions of characters I like best aren't the standard Vintage line versions.

I do think Mattel has learned from their mistake with 200X. Better to go with the variants that the fans ask for instead of making up variants and falling flat.

I really look forward to the variants. I am a huge fan of the 200X series and i hope we get more variants paying homage to that era. I am just curious why they leave some of the best designs on the drawing board rather than on the figure, like Roboto. His vintage head is inferior to his 200x head so this is an instance where Battle Ground Roboto would fit, complete with big cannons and bulkier chest armor. Also, I rather like the story the bios tell and the variants seem to move it along more so than others.

I need a Snake Armor He-Man and I'm beyond curious to see how they pull it off in Classics style.

Yes, for the most part (except Hurricane Hordak), I have enjoyed the previous variants and look forward to future ones.

I generally do not like the variants. Some of them - Hurricane Hordak, TP / BA He-Man, BA Skeletor - I don't even display. Some of the other variants - BG Teela - I do, but I pretend that BG Teela is another character all together.

It's weird what Mattel calls a variant. I would not consider Keldor a variant of Skeletor, but Mattel released him in a variant slot.

For me, it would be better if the variant portion of the sub were optional, even though I know that this isn't possible.

I can't say I look forward to variants outside of Skeletor variants. I am looking forward to getting Dragon Blaster, NA, and hopefully a Laser Light Skeletor. Not so much in to Terror Claws or any of the 200x bunch.

I have bought most of the variants so far, but usually ask for them as gifts or wait until a Cyber Monday sale to get them, especially if there are more than 2 other figures coming out that month. I do enjoy most of the variants released so far and I have them on my shelf alongside the other figures. But I do like your idea of a variant shelf - if only I had more room.

I love variants. In fact, they are the subject of my next Poll (up soon!), a companion piece to my current Beast poll.

I'm hoping we can get all of the vintage MOTU, PoP, and NA, as well as a few select 200x variants, befroe MOTUC closes up shop.

I love variants. I've always loved them. I had the vintage Battle Armour He-Man. My cousin had a regular He-Man. My neighbour had Thunder Punch. It was great seeing all the different kinds like that.

I didn't have a Classics He-Man until Thunder Punch came along. I think he looks awesome! I love Bubble Power She-Ra, and I'd love to see a Catra variant. Perhaps Shower Power that looks more like the vintage toy. And we need a brand new Frosta variant at some point.

My favourite variant of the line so far, though, is Battleground Teela. I just call her a Valkyrie, and not Teela at all.

Most likely because more fans prefer the vintage look and feel that the best design was used for Roboto. I don't think 200X Roboto was an awful design, but I highly prefer the vintage look for him. His vintage head is unique and different to me, whereas I feel his 200X head is very generic.

As for variants, I do look forward to them overall. Some much more than others. The vintage and new never released figures are what I look forward to the most.

I do really enjoy variations that add spice to a character. Star Wars has gone wild on them to the point that you need a microscope to determine the difference from on Luke Skywalker to another. This is way over done. But TP HM to BA HM, I can clearly see, and appreciate, the differences. I like the quantity we are getting in the variation slot and do not feel that we need more allocated, as there are so, so, so many unique characters that need to be done too.

    +1!

Just when i thought i was one of the only ones who'd like to see 200X Roboto!

I do look forward to variants. I remember back a couple of years ago how i wasn't too fond of variants as it could've possibly watered down the concept of the idea. But i have to say over time, they've grown on me and wouldn't mind to a point if they branched out to other characters in Mini-Comic, Filmation or 200X guise as well.

I was actually just looking at all the He-Man variants within my display that we've had in the line so far and i can't say that i didn't or don't want any of them. I do admit however that PD He-Man is the weakest within that lot but not hated. TRU 2-Packs had some good examples of variants. Can't wait to see who the next one will be...

I don't look forward to the variants. Most of the time I only want to display the originals, so the variant is a waste of money to me.
Of the variants so far, I've only got Battle Ground Teela (but I pretend she's a comlpetely different character in my display), Battle Ground Evil-Lyn (because I did not buy the original release of Evil-Lyn), and Thunder Punch He-man (but only for the buck to eventually display Vykron's space suit).

I don't consider Keldor, Adam or Adora to be variants. But I love adding new CHARACTERS into my action figure collection, so honestly variants don't excite me a great deal. The only one that's really knocked my socks off is BG Teela, because to me she's different enough from the original. Another great one was BG Evil-Lyn. I passed on the original version and went straight for the BG one instead just because I like it so very much more!

Oh yeah; LOTS of great variants in this line. In fact I look forward to 'em so much that I'm sad for the less popular ones I know we'll never see. The only reason I got sick of He-Man and Skeletor in the 2002 line is 'cause that's ALL that was left on the shelves. Otherwise, the majority of the variants of He and Skelly were pretty dang awesome throughout the 2002 line.

Without the toy isles involved, everyone gets a fair shot (and with the sub I don't miss a thing). So yeah, I look forward to them! Then again, i'm lookin' forward to pretty much everything in this line.

i actually like variants, but in a strange way: i usually give them extra heads and accessories for brand new characters (most of them for "my" preternia).

I like some varients, but too many can hurt a line. I would actually prefer head/armor packs for some of the varients though (although I know it's not going to happen). I bought a vintage dragon blaster skeletor and then the original armor and swap between the two for my son...and it works perfect. Also some of the filmation varients like He-man and Skeletor would only need a new head and a filmation acurate power sword really (although a swapable hand on He-man to make the iconic "I have the Power" pose would rock). I wouldn't want more snake people variations though and a lot of the 200x He-man/Skeletor variations seem silly to me. I'll only buy varients that are completely different....like a 200x Sorceress and Roboto or Filmation Hordak (which would require new sculpting and repaint). If it's just a simple head or armor swap then no thanks.

I used to, up until they did "waste of timers" like Battleground Evil-Lyn (not enough of a change to warrant a variant IMO- they should have redone her entire outfit instead of doing a different paint scheme on the old one) and Snake Man-At-Arms (I would have rather have seen a Battle Glove Man-At-Arms). Now I'm very skeptical of the variant slot and hope the next two for 2012 restore my faith in the concept of quarterly variants.

+1 for WMD Roboto as well. Just make it as another Roboto body that he downloads into when he needs more armor and firepower.

I like variants, but too many can definately mess things up. I think we are getting the perfect amount with motuc...unless they want to give us more filmation variants which Id be totally down for.

I do like the Variants but I don't feel like I need them all. I really like the ones that represent new characters like Zodak and the Green Goddess and the ones that are very different or represent the character from a different era or faction like BG Teela, 200X Sorceress, and Snake Man at Arms. I would like to see them combine some variants, I think Thunder Punch and Flying Fist He-Man could have been combined by including alternate armor and the Flying Fist weapon that fits onto the fist hand. Knock a few variants out with one release...especially for He-Man and Skeletor. Snake Man at Arms could have also been combined with a 200X Man at Arms, giving us two possible variants instead of one...but that is not a new idea.

I think a Variant maker pack with newly tooled parts would be awesome. Items like FF He-Man Armor/accessories, Terror Claws Skeltor armor/accessories, Sorceress Teela cloak, 200X Man at Arms Head and Arm Cannon, etc. Things that could be added to existing character's to make them variants.

You might want to fire up a new Variant Idol 6. It's been 6 months of reveals so far. A few people might have changed their minds or developed new preferences since then.
