I definitely look forward to variants--more accurately, alternate artistic versions of the main characters (i.e., 200X He-Man, Filmation He-Man, Oo-Larr, NA He-Man, Battleground Teela, 200X Adam, etc.) as opposed to "power-up" variants such as Battle Armor and Thunder Punch. I like those too, but not as much as the others. I see alternate looks as another display option (which I'm very big on) and usually the versions of characters I like best aren't the standard Vintage line versions.
I do think Mattel has learned from their mistake with 200X. Better to go with the variants that the fans ask for instead of making up variants and falling flat.
