Correcting your MOTUC Stinkor's forearms...

I haven't even received mine yet (and because of the reversed forearms, I'm in no rush to receive them either...) but I know others have so...

I would love to see/read any tutorials on how to correct his forearms.

I got mine today, and honestly, I'm fine with it the way it is. I think I actually prefer him this way.

Mine just came in and they look fine too. Didn't think they would but I can hardly notice.

I did mine last week when I got Stinkor.





I put the arms in hot water for a few seconds, and they just popped right off the pegs. I removed the stripes and painted them back on the correct sides.

I got mine in today. The backwards forearms drive me crazy, I think they look so much worse in person than they did in the photos I've seen. I would like to correct them, but the only time I've tried painting figures I did not have a good experience (everything seemed to come out fine, and dry fine, until after a couple of months the paint started getting sticky).
Maybe I used the wrong type of paint or something.

@Slayor- did you remove the stripes with acetone or something like that? What type of paint did you use? I am very tempted to give this painting another go, because I really hate the way his arms look right now.

Great thread! There is no excuse for Mattel to have made such a poor choice on such a fan favorite as Stinkor. The reps should leave their customizing ideas to the customizers.

I did mine when it arrived yesterday. It was very simple and took about an hour to finish. Much better in my opinion.

I heard from HKC that we should not "boil" the arm but use a hairdryer instead. I usually use a hairdryer to soften the hands and stuff.

Can you give us an explicit description of how to do it?


1. So I use a hairdryer/hot water technic to soften the arm, right? Is a hairdryer doing the job as good as hot water?

2. I pull on the forearms to pop them off or what?

3. Remove hands.

4. First paint the forearms or pop them back on first?

5. White? Is it normal/plain acylic white? Or is there a kind of shade in the white?

6. Standard black?

7. Did you use a template? Did you copy exatly the same pattern or did you do it freehand?

8. How thick is the brush you used? Fine, medium? Certain number?

9. Is it easy to pop it back on? I remember my BG Teela had a peg that did not fit...it ended up that I had to cut the forearm off and repair it, put a pin in and glued the pegs back on. Arm still works. Would like to do it the right way here with Stinkor.


Please give as much details as possible. Thanx again.

using a hair dryer works just as well as the boil & pop method, but a little more time consuming.

I have been using the boil & pop method since back in "93" and have only had one bad incident b/c I actually put the part I wanted to heat up in the mug in the microwave and it melted it.

I have learned alot since then!

I will definitely have to try this if i get a chance this weekend. funny that I just happened to buy a gallon of acetone at home depot for another project i'm working on.

I used a hair dryer. First pop of the arms and fists and make the swap. It took some heavy squeezing to get the pins back into the arms but just keep working it and it should pop back in. I used a mixture of Delta Ceramacoat Acrylic basic White and Quaker Gray for the stripes. You'll need to use a fine brush to paint the stripes. After painting the stripes I used basic Black to cover the original stripes. After letting it dry apply a matte varnish and you should be all done. The elbow pin is white so I chose to paint the non-striped side black as well.

Be careful not to heat the hands with the dryer more than like 10 seconds or the paint on the hands might melt. I would pop the hands off first before removing the forearms

It doesn't take much to soften the arms up to remove them but popping the hands off first isn't a bad idea.

I went ahead and decided to give the fix a try. Usually if something can't be solved with a little heat and/or razor blade then I don't do it, but the arms just bugged me too much to not give it a go.

All I have is some cheap acrylic paint from walmart, so I mixed wicker white and rain gray, and masking tape. The plastic used for the forearms seem to already be of the softer variety, so heating with the hairdryer was pretty quick and getting the pins back in was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

For the stripes I used masking tape. I didn't want to strip off the old stripes so I just painted over them. It does not look as good as it would if I had some better quality paints, but it doesn't seem to want to rub off either. If he falls off the shelf then the paint will chip, but just moving him around and posing him doesn't seem to cause any problems. I might try to do this again later when I get some better paints, but for now this seems to be a big improvement.

I don't mind his arms the way they are, it actually seems to set him apart a bit from the other characters that have the similar arm fins. That being said, the boil and pop method works just fine, in fact its much safer than using a heat gun, the heat gun can get it too hot and warp the parts. The boil method distributes the heat more evenly, heating the entire part instead of just the part you are aiming at. They both work well as long as you exercise common sense, but for beginners I recommend boiling for around 10 to 15 seconds.

Great thread. I think the reversed arms are really terrible but I'm not sure they bother me enough to actually do the swap. But at least it seems easy enough. I think the reason HK was saying not to boil and pop was to do with the smell... but I think the smell is only mixed in with the torso plastic anyway.

And surprisingly, he doesn't look all the bad! In a way, it gives him more of a unique fur pattern that really makes him "POP!" on my shelf!

Yeah, I was actually pleasantly surprised how it looks! It's almost as if the fur pattern twists down his arm. Definitely looks better than having the forearms backwards with the intended pattern. IMO.

already corrected the arms & custom painted his accessories. I dont have any more whit so I'm going to wait on painting the arms.

that's a good look too, if I had a second stinkor and carnivus I'd make a MYP 200X stinkor paint the loincloth white.
