You need to watch the last episode. It wasn't the best way to end it, but it wasn't horrible either.

I'm sorry if I came across as negative towards your idea, that was not my intent. He just gets so much hate because of his design, which I like, even more since I got him in hand. I just know if his time traveling was similar to QL he and Scott would get even more hate.
No, you are fine. I just wanted to see if there was a "better" way to fit TMS into the mythos other than what Scott thought of. I know people don't like the look, but he exists, so let's just make the best of it.

A bit off topic but I gotta say it: I'm a MASSIVE Quantum Leap fan, I spent big bucks at the recent Toronto Comic-Con to get a photo op with Scott Bakula & Dean Stockwell as well as both of their autographs. Scott Bakula is truly a charming and great guy.
I agree with the drumstick in Gwildor's mouth would be awesome. We need to get some fan art of this. TMS looking around confused with a hologram Gwildor (with drumstick in mouth) punching keys on the mini-cosmic key to talk to the home computer (Ziggy).

I do like the idea above that he could have been any character at any time. For me, that is a better idea than having this weirdo bounce around in time as himself. Perhaps he uses multiple disguises to keep that suit hidden. That being said, I love Quantum Leap. I love your site. That is where I first read the ending and saw the little video clip that never aired. Really interesting direction the show was GOING to take. Any news on Quantum Leap: The Next Leap?

No news on QL lately (sorry for the off topic business here!) I keep in touch with Don Bellisario's office from time to time, and he just isn't able to work on it right now. Everyone seems to still want to though.

    Nope

Don't like this idea at all.

MOST of all... Despite the fact that "I" have no problem with him time-traveling in to save the day on occassion... a LOT of people do NOT like the 'mary sue/Deus ex machina' plot point of Spector....

Now with the Quantum Leap concept thrown in... now that time That He-man saved the day... or Orko outfoxed someone... or Snout Spout was awesome...

yeah... it wasn't them. It was Spector all along!!!

It gives too much potential to steal OTHER people's cool moments in time... DC once did a mini-series with Deadman that was a LOT like that... going through time and taking over Superman/Green Lantern/Jason Todd,Robin, at the most 'epic' moments of their lives and worked them like puppets...

    It sucked.

That is ONE way to look at it. Let me suggest another. Any time a character was acting out of character or stupid, that could have been TMS. It can work both ways.

Even if he didn't leap into other characters, I think the basic premise of having something else in control of his time jumping is a good idea. Time travellers can be a deus ex machina, a lazy storyteller's way of allowing anything to be fixed. It makes the battle un-losable; if your strategy fails, just send Spector back to tell you to use another one. I think having Spector being somewhat trapped by the power, perhaps ping-ponging through time at the behest of the Power/Spirit of Grayskull, makes him less of weak plot device and more of an interesting character. There would still be events outside his control, and that could give the character and story a bit more depth.

Good points, Scott. In that scenario, the Power Pellets he uses could still allow him to control his leaps temporarily, but when he runs out, it's back to fate calling the shots. Oh crap! I just gave myself an idea!!! What if instead of some nebulous concept like 'fate,' it's actually being controlled (unbeknownst to SPECTOR) by the GREEN GODDESS! This could also explain how he's able to get more Power Pellets; she makes sure that he gets to a place and time where he can acquire more of them (whether it be King Adam's court, or Duncan's shop where he can synthesize the Pellets, etc.) whenever she decides he should be in control again.

I don't know so much about the "leaping into other characters" bit, but the part of being bounced around in time by some other force than "hey, I think I'll visit (whatever year) this afternoon" actually works much better for me. The scenario presented in his bio has just waaay too many implications and problems for my liking.

Not for me. I really don't like time travelling elements unless that's the main focus of the property. so for Quantum Leap, Back to the future etc it's fine, but for MOTU, and such no thanks, UNLESS the entire story is shifting to a different time like the idea behind the powers of Grayskull line. but no jumping in and out of different times for a character, unless it's a one off storyline.
