Too Much Too Soon? Will getting all these Fan Favorites damage the line?

Im more than a wee bit concerned that we have gotten so many Vintage Figures this year, yes I'm fully aware of the fact that its the 30th anniversary and so special but thats not my point.

what if we get Jitzu or Ram Man this year as well?

How many collectors will abandon the sub to avoid the Characters from POP NA and 200X?

Everyone talks about Filmation but I still think the core of this collection is the updated vintage MOTU figs, and when they are done will the line fold?

Will we who are passionate about ALL the eras lose out because the 'Die hards' will walk away happy while we sit hoping the line makes it too Lizzor or Castaspella?

I dont mean to be Chicken little but am I the only one who thinks that Too many Vintage too soon is a Bad thing?

    ka
I may just be a Gay Pop fan...but I am also the one who wants ALL of the Figures, who wants this line to continue and who is putting my money where my mouth is....are you doing the same?

I think they're balancing things perfectly and as long as they hold on to two or three vintage MOTU a year they'll have no problems. There are still plenty of them to go. (all the snake men except king Hiss, many horde members, Rio blast, clamp champ, ninjor to name a few). No need for doom and gloom yet.

    My seller/trader/buyer feedback:

MOTUC Most Wanted: Skeletor's Robot Knights, Two-Bad, Horde Troopers, Modulok, Sssqueeze, Tung Lashor, Stridor, Night Stalker, the Battle Ram, and a true, alternate head for Wun-Dar (since he's a "different" character)!

I don't expect we would get Ram-Man for another year or two at a minimum. I can say for sure Ram-Man won't be 2012 as Scott was asked this many times and he said Ram Man will be a 100% brand new tool with no shared parts so he will cost Mattel a lot to make. Scott said maybe 2013 or 2014. Now were getting a price increase in 2013 so maybe Ram-Man could come in 2013 and I only say this because Cornboy was tossing hints out as a teaser to fans on his Facebook page. He said I just got finished with a Big Gun, A Small Sword and a Cyborgs head and upper body.

Now fans were tossing out guesses and Cornboy said these are three different figures and no one has even come close with their guess. Then two weeks later Mekaneck was revealed ( Cyborge head and upper body) The small sword one has me stumped but the Big Gun he refered to may have been Ram-Man. I guess we just have to wait and see.

you and me both.......Thats the one figure that will sink the battleship!

But I do trust that TG & Co understand what that would do to the figures that follow!

I don't think it's a bad thing. Let the "Vintage Fan Mass Exodus"™ BEGIN!

By all means, finish the vintage era! Less competition for slots and less bickering. No more Era Wars™. With the vintage characters out of the way, Mattel could possibly refresh those bread and butter characters with their various 200X, original POP, mini-comic or Filmation incarnations. Those fans have always been here clamoring for those versions of the characters, but the main opponents to those requests were the vintage fans who wanted their characters first. Once the vintage only fans are all satisfied with completing the vintage collection and have left, everyone else will still be here collecting. In addition to the POP, NA, 200X, mini-comic and Filmation fans who will still have characters left to get, you also have the non-era specific general MOTU fans who like anything MOTU related.

Although Classics will take a hit from the "Vintage Fan Mass Exodus"™, they probably aren't the majority of the fans. I think the remaining fans can keep the line going, as if MOTU was never canceled in the 80's.

I dunno. I suppose I'm just optimistic, but I don't think this line could have survived as long as it has if there weren't enough people in it to see just about anything in this line. I would be interested in this toyline even if I wasn't in to MotU; it's just cool. I think there are enough folks who aren't just buying the vintage figures. I've got no basis for my assumption, but I think it's fair enough to say.

Honestly, I think the Exodus has already happpened.

'Vintage Only' fans aren't BUYING the sub... The sub is literally only designed for the 'all-era's' fans. the ones who want Every figure.. Vintage, PoP, NA, 200x, filmation, and concept. Fans who are afraid of getting 'stuck' with unwanted figures don't sign up for subs... they are part of the 'I won't subscribe if they don't tell me WHO I'm gonna get' faction.

I myself am one of those fans. I'm in it for nostalgia, and there are very few PoP figures I want, and zero NA and Concept. I don't buy subs...

Sadly, that means I don't matter to Mattel anymore. Day of sale went up, Stock went down, we're back to fast sell outs, and they are only making just a little bit more then they need to cover the Subs..

Subscriptions are what fuels the line, Not the cherry pickers. And the subs are only ideal for the "all in' fans.

I'd be very surprised to see Jitsu or Ram Man this year.

I reckon we'll get Jitsu next year. Ram Man probably the year after.

They need to start doing some of the lesser lights, like Extendor, Rokkon/Stonedar, Dragstor, Ninjor etc... they've probably hit up far too many of the popular vintage characters already.

But damn me, give me Horde Troopers and Modulok already! :P

As Toyguru would say: If anything is going to kill classics, it will be rising costs.

Believe me, the bulk of the vintage fans aren't abandoning this line anytime soon, and most of those who do leave will be back as boredom sets in without the monthly fix of a MOTUC figure. Once we get through all the characters in the classic MOTU toy line, it's going to become a case where those fans start clammoring for some of the characters to be upgraded and/or fixed, variants, concepts, mini-comic and DC Comics characters. It's neverending. And of course Mattel will be firmly planted up that era's keister. I'm skeptical that they would ever allow POP to take a lead.

Do I think this line can survive on POP, NA and Filmation alone? Absolutely.

I agree with those above that have decided to avoid the Sub moving forward.

I don't want any POP, NA or Filmation. I'm content to cherry-pick Vintage, 200x, mini-comics and concepts.

I've only had 2 problems this year regarding sell-outs. Fisto and Stinkor. It cost me a total additional $40 to add 2 of each of these to my collection.

To me, that is well worth avoiding the stuff I don't want. I'm STILL trying to get rid of Swift Wind...

The "Exodus" from the Sub has already happened...and with the continuing QC issues, I think it's only going to get worse.

Agreed. Despite being a Vintage fan first and foremost, I've had subs for three years. I am getting to the point of deciding not to sub next year. The SDCC reveals will be the decider.

I think I'm leaning towards a return to cherry-picking, plus filling gaps as items reappear on sale days. I need to be more selective with my spending, and at the moment I'm not convinced a sub is a good idea. That's based on my negative experiences this year and the likelihood of more POP, NA and Filmation, which don't interest me.

I think subs are going to take a hit this year and predict an extension to the cut off date.

Everything ends. The line as it stands right now will probably go on for probably two more years before I will become something else. I'm predicting smaller figures.

So don't worry about the end. It will come when it comes. Enjoy what you have now and look forward to a future.

this collection is now expensive.... every month too many things.... STOP with huge quantity for each months.... if i lost 1 figure i will stop to buy motuc....

i want 1,5 figure for each month!!!

i hate the star sisters and i hate tha fact i payed 3 horrible figure in 1 shot.... those things will kill the line.... i think taht i will not buy the 2013 sub. For the 2012 i'm a completist but for the 2013 i think i will be a charry-picker!

The line will be fine, until prices get too far out of hand. Again TG has stated that even if we lost 50% of the subs, the line would still be fine.

I think we will for sure have 2013 and 2014 anything beyond that is just gravy

I'm still waiting for so many from vintage era like ram man or two bad, but its enough vintage (iconic) characters for this year.
Hope mekanek is the very last.
I dont see this line continue in next years based only on lesser factions like na or pop, please save core characters for 2013 and 2014.
But I still see a lack of pop, GR and NA , they deserve more love; I'm not very happy as how this line has been balanced until now, definately not (very few vintage motu and still a lot pop/na/motu 200x to come !!)

    No.

The line is going to end one day. Especially with prices continuing to rise. Figures can't be held back indefinitely.

I was a bit shocked with how many vintage figures we've gotten this year (Fisto, Kobra Khan, Stinkor, Spikor, and Meka-Neck?) but I'm completely fine with it.

They had to come sometime, and now is better than a future spot that could potentially never come.
