Truthfully, writers COULD weave a cinematic continuity between films of a certain franchise even if the actors playing the heroes get re-cast. But, this is the 2010's, where it seems film audiences are too stupid to follow any kind of continuity and get confused when a different face is in the role of a character, so the studios keep re-booting the franchises for the sake of the morons.
