Mattel is in the business of selling toys, always will be and its fine by me
but creative, colorful stories and characters need not be sacrificed to achieve this goal as it has been proven before with Filmation, NA and MYP. Each of these were new interpretations of MOTU introduced to sell toys first and foremost. What TG is attempting to do is fine by me in trying to create a uniform story using the different incarnations of the MOTU mythos. Some things will sit well, while others are an outcry to most fans.
Even I don't really care about the bios, I do like the expansion of Dare, son of He-Man and I'm glad its included in MOTUC and not some outlandish new idea in its place. This is the creative, artistic yet very delicate direction he (TG) should be taking and not make a mess of it. If he steers it off course and changes too many things and goes all "god" on MOTU, IT WILL explode in his face and the fans and potential new fans will leave and the business side of it will fail, not good to the execs and their stock.
1) Killing MAA and Sorceress, robbing Teela of both her parents during a war was a highly bold move which was badly executed in the bios
He should have left their fates pending for future bios to increase the suspense
2) Making TMS and SLL, central core characters in both the past and future of MOTU was a vanity move
pure and simple, as it shows a forced push for them to be included all around the MOTUC universe as a whole "in any time". (why not
Photog, Draego-Man, Vykron or the Star Sisters?)
3) Ignoring anyone else's involvement from the "present" story (besides He-Man as of now) in this future storyline. No other bio has them
anywhere near King He-Man..(has Teela been mentioned as the queen yet?)
Does Mattel want another little bubbled up universe of MOTU for a few years every decade to squeeze a few bucks out of....or something that can and I hope will bring this property to a higher level like other brands (Batman, Avengers, X-Men) one day and have the flexibility to change yet keep its core intact? A good business company seeks longevity with their product and makes alterations to keep it alive, which they should be doing and it does look promising with the right's they have acquired so far. They must listen to the fanbase (the $$$$$) and realize what it is we all want with this property, which is quite simple - great toys, stories and service. The 30th Anniversary of MOTU should be the kick-off point to greater things, which as of yet, still hasn't been kicked off right.
