I'll try to catch these two episodes and see how much I like it. My parents used to let me watch Dallas and Falcon Crest when I was younger on Friday nights.

Are you kidding?! I've been counting the days. If it wasn't for J.R. Ewing being my role model back then, I never would have survived for three decades in the entertainment industry.

The greatest primetime soap opera of all time. Cue the music!!!

I hope the new series does well. They may end up bringing back Knots Landing as well!!

Amen! Donna Mills. Gawd, those eyes! Did you know that she once said she would spend half an hour in front of her mirror every morning to separate each of her eyelashes with a needle? A bit of excess, but in her case I'd say the results were well worth it.

Enjoyed her in PLAY MISTY FOR ME as well.

I loved it! John Ross was played out perfectly IMO. Can't wait for next week!

I did not know that about Donna and her eyelashes but I vaguely remember her (maybe on Entertainment Tonight) talking about her make up routine and how she surrounded her eyes with powder as some kind of base to make her eyes pop more. And I noticed that on the show. Knots even made a joke about her make up with Greg Sumner trying to catch her without it when they first got married.
Not to stray too far off of Dallas, J.R. did guest star in a lot of early episodes of Knots Landing and he and Abby slept together of course.
I am waiting a bit to watch the first episodes of the new series.

If the pilot is any indicator this show is going to be on for awhile! Not sure about Christoper's wife what her and her brother have planned.Wonder if Bobby will make it through his cancer? This I think is going to play a pivotal part in the plot. The actors they have playing John Ross and Christopher play there parts well. It's like watching a young J.R. ruthless and dirty.Looking forward to this week's ep.!

It wasn't bad. I thought some of the direction and editing read a little outdated or Lifetime/Hallmark movie-y. And why didn't Bobby's wife just shoot?

But I'd say it was off to a good start. Plus they got around 7 million viewers and it was one of the highest rated cable show premieres ever.

Glad to hear the show pulled in a lot of viewers. I thought the show was awesome. They could have done something different with a whole new cast and just slapped the name Dallas on it, but I thought they really captured the look and feel of the original series pretty well. I even watched it with my parents just like I did growing up.

So glad we got this series instead of the movie that was in the works a while back (John Travolta as JR and Brad Pitt as Bobby? No thanks).

I wouldn't think TNT was super thrilled though with it only getting a 1.5 in the coveted adults 18-49 demo (I thought it would get a 2). The show definitely skewed older. Hopefully it doesn't drop.

I watched most of the two hour premiere (I was flipping back and forth between another program). I enjoyed it. Two things... the opening credits. I would like them to show the pictures of the actors with their names like they did in the original. This one just shows their names. Second, the actor playing Christopher is terrible -- and he has top billing on the show (yikes)! I remember him from an awful soap opera a former girlfriend watched (Passions) and he wasn't much better on there.

AWESOME, BABY!!! J.R. is still Da Man.

Larry Hagman was right on the money in an interview in which he said there are more plot developments in an hour than there were in five episodes of the original...which I loved dearly. The only thing I miss (badly) is Victoria Principal. Sigh...

As for Bobby's wife not shooting the intruder, the answer is simple: she's a caring, compassionate, tree-hugging wimp...just like Bobby. I can tell you, without reservation, that if I ever came upon anyone that had broken into my house in the night (or day for that matter) and I had first identified them as a stranger that was a threat to my precious wife and children, I'd slap leather and quickly introduce them to my very good friends Mr. Smith & Mrs. Wesson.

As for the series sticking around, they pulled in 1.9 million in the 18 - 49 demo and it's the #1 rated cable premier series this year...which says a lot considering THE CLIENT LIST:

It's true and it indicates how much the market has splintered. Many years ago, when I was Senior Story Editor at DIC and there was only the Big Three -- NBC, CBS and ABC -- we'd routinely pull 1.7 to 1.9 for the likes of Heathcliff & The Catillac Cats, Inspector Gadget and The Littles.

I just finished watching the premiere and I thought that it was awesome. I especially liked that it drew on the original series's history. For example, they didn't forget that Christopher is Bobby's adopted son and that Christopher's real daddy sold him to Bobby. It was great to see old favorites like Charlene Tilton and Steve Kanaly. I wonder if they'll bring back Susan Howard and George Kennedy?

The funny thing is that I'm making my way through the original series and I'm at the end of Season 12. It's weird to watch the same series simultaneously, but at different points in the story arc.

I'm with you, Jack. I really want to see Victoria Principal come back, but 1. I imagine that's something that's a Season Finale type event and 2. Victoria is married to a rich LA Plastic surgeon. She doesn't need the money as badly to come back.

And since no one else said it, Linda Gray looks AMAZING!!!!!!!!! She looks better now then she did a lot of times in the original series - especially when she had that mullet. Whatever she's doing, she needs to keep on doing it.

I enjoyed the first two episodes, so I will probably stick with it. There was a ton of plot twists in the first episode. I wasn't expecting the one with the bride. I hope J.R. and Bobby are around for as long as the show lasts.

I also agree that Linda Gray looks amazing.

Also, I don't think that Victoria Principle will be coming back. From what I've read about Dallas, she seems to remove herself from it and was never that involved in the TV movies and reunions. Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, and Larry Hagman seem to get along well together.

Victoria Principal did come back for reunion specials - just not actual movies reprising the characters. Maybe she'll change her mind, but I doubt it. Plus, isn't Pam supposed to be totally dead dead dead?

No one -- no one -- in a soap opera is ever "totally dead dead dead."

You're right - she did show up for the reunion specials.

She's not dead dead. After the whole Patrick Duffy shower cliffhanger, they never wanted to kill off a main character again. Pam was in a car crash and got burned badly. She escaped the hospital and later Cliff found her (it was a different actress at this point), and Pam said that she was dying. What she didn't tell Cliff was that she couldn't face it to go back to Dallas and her family, so to spare her family she claimed that she had not much time left to live.

And then she went on to start a skin care cosmetics company...
