It is as amazing as it is bizarre, and it is quite bizarre. To think that we would ever see a Captain Planet movie has taken me completely by surprise (even though I recently rediscovered my love for this cartoon), and to think it could come before a new MOTU film.
I can't even begin to imagine how it would transfer onto film (and yet I remain hopeful that it would come out feeling like Avatar, The Avengers, or perhaps even the less memorable, but still visually decent John Carter of Mars), or which of the core villains would make it into the movie. Duke Nukem? Dr. Blight? Verminous Skum? Hoggish Greedly? I could actually see Charlize Theron playing a really awesome Doctor Blight, or Kristin Bauer van Straten. Yeah she would probably do a better job.
FULL STORY HERECartoon Network has signed a development agreement with action-adventure producer Don Murphy and partner Susan Montford and their company Angry Filmworks to develop a live-action motion picture based on the groundbreaking, environment-saving animated hero, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, it was announced today by Stuart Snyder, president and COO of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media division (AYAKM). The agreement gives Murphy and his company the exclusive rights to develop and package the property and advance it towards production.

I'm no 'Captain Planet' fan, but the only way I would ever see this movie is if they get Bhargav Dronamraju (from 'That Guy With The Glasses') to play Ma-Ti, and have Ted Turner cover himself in blue paint running around the city screaming 'CAPTAAAIIIIIN PLAAAAANEEEEET'.
The only way I'll see this is if Don Cheadle plays Captain Planet.

Dr. Blight was the best villain on the show IMO (that was Meg Ryan!), so I'd hope they use her. Sly Sludge and Looten Plunder were the most boring, so I'm sure they'll be used instead.
This was announced ages ago. Heard nothing about it since. Doesn't mean its dead, though.
I got excited because I thought it was Captain Power ...

Don Murphy is involved so it'll have a 4% resemblance to the original cartoon, and he'll curse and insult anyone who doesn't think it's the best movie ever made.
