    The Simpsons Discussion

Who here is a Simpsons fan? I have to say that I am a huge one, but not to the point that I buy every comic book, every toy, etc. I pretty much just remain loyal to the show itself. Unfortunately, even though I own every DVD season set, I haven't actually been able to watch them in years (and I have never had the chance to watch Season 11-14 & 20 since the day they hit DVD/BD), so I have only watched the newest episodes as they air. In all honesty, I know a lot of people complain about the newer seasons, but they are still better than a lot of what is on TV these days. Anyway, so the Nostalgia Critic (if you are not familiar with him, go to www.thatguywiththeglasses.com) had an episode where he listed his top 11 episodes of the series. So of course, in watching them, it made me want to go back and watch those episodes he chose, which I did.

However, in doing so, holy crap, it feels like I am watching these shows for the first time even though I know everything that is going to happen, can remember nearly every great line from each of them, because they are so good and makes me realize why people have been saying the last several years have been awful. I mean, these episodes are genius, weird, and funny. There are still some really stand out episodes from all of the recent stuff, but the more I think about it, I don't really remember much about the episodes from like Season 12 on unless I were to read a full synopsis, but if you tell me an episode title from the ones before then, I can pretty much tell you what the basis of the episode was along with a great line from that episode.

Anyway, what do you think of The Simpsons? Do you love it? Hate it? Loved it up until a certain point?

Love it I still watch it and generally enjoy the newer episodes. to me it's still miles above a lot of shows. Problem is it feels to me like audiences now want the quick shock humour, throw out the character importance for the quickest most shocking jokes. but that kind of thing wears thin. the simpsons DOES do some shock jokes but there is generally still charm there and the characters are not so self centred for the sake of humour. I love it, die hard life long fan right here. I'm behind on the dvd collection though, and I'm trying to find Movie Marge for a good price. I need the last 2 dvds and the 20th.

I really dislike season 1 and season two I'm a bit more into it's season 3 and up that I like, even the newest ones. I'll agree they aren't as consistent as earlier but we all lose a step with age. I'm ok with them not slam dunking but still hitting the jump shots like jordan after his first retirement.

    Greatest show of all-time. Period.
A journey that began long ago in a place neither near nor far…
A story of heroes, passed down through the ages…
    Until now.
This is our story. These are our heroes…

The Simpsons is an animated juggernaut. I cannot believe they have endured this long. Often I hear the complaints of the humor having shifted from a more character driven comedy element, to the kind of silly 'shock' Family Guy gags, but honestly, The Simpsons is such a bizarre and quirky universe, it works. And in my opinion, The Simpsons is leaps and bounds over Family, and all its other clones and competitors in animated 'adult' entertainment.

I've seen every episode from the first season all the way up to the new Season 23 episode featuring , Lady Gaga, and I don't feel like the show has sacrificed anything. For me the best has been Season 10 onward (while I will admit my most of my favorite episodes have been Seasons 10-15), I'm never disappointed by an episode, and I love so many of the characters.

Honestly, I don't think I will ever tire of this cartoon, and as long as new episodes are made I will continue to watch it, though I don't have room in my life for any Simpsons merchandise. MOTU is pretty much it these days.

See, I'm the opposite. I thought this season was quite bad. Not bad as American Dad got in the last year (I loved everything April 2011, when Roger just got way too damn weird), but most of the episodes left me empty with a "What just happened?" feeling going on. Like that one with Ned and Ed from a few weeks back. Now I thought the 500th episode was graet, but to be honest, here are my memories of episodes from the last 11 years.

There was an episode where Homer cut off his thumb and it was split into three segments of the same day, but through the viewpoints of Bart, Lisa, and Homer. Until the season came out on DVD, I did not know what the title was, or what season it was from. Turns out it was from Season 12 and is called Trilogy of Error. The next Simpsons episode I remember that came after that is when Moe goes to Virginia with the Simpsons for a poetry contest, and that is because of the scene when Moe is in the car, slides a beer down the dashboard to Homer, who starts to drink it. Marge yells at him, so Homer screams, "Fine, I will drive inbetween sips!" and starts braking to drink, drive, brake, etc. I still don't remember what season it was from, nor the name of the episode. Outside of that and the 24 take, the next episode I remember is the 500th when they are evicted from Springfield.

As such, it seems like none of the episodes really left that much of an impact on me because all of the other episodes I remember are from Seasons 1-10. I mean, it could also be because those from Season 11+ were not reran as often as the first ten seasons, but still.

Love the show but haven't had a chance to watch the more resent seasons since I work or game on sundays and they stopped showing episodes on the 5-6 time or 6-7 time slots.

I love most of the halloween episodes, the who shot Mr. Burns, any episode that involves Bart and Lisa working together and most of the episodes that focus on each of them.

So my Simpsons mood must be coming to an end, I started Season 9 today and I am finding myself bored, whereas I could not stop laughing my ass off yesterday on Season 8.
