Killin teh lien

A fellow orger just asked me where the phrase "killin teh lien" came from.

I couldn't give him an answer.

Now that's the lien has not been killed, can anyone help me understand exactly where this panic-ridden phrase came from? I really want to know!

I've seen this phrase also on old LEGO forums back in the early 2000s! So, I'm just thinking it's a common phrase among collectors every where!

It's a fairly old phrase that's used for the over active typer that never spell checks.
Basically it's the panic button reaction that some get, it's been around for a long time, I have no clue as to where it started.

I really thought this started here on the Org because of a typo in a post. I was around at the time and remember the original post, and it certainly didn't SEEM like it came from somewhere else. But that could totally be my perception. I have always mostly associated it with the end of the 200X line and not with any other lines.

Hadley wrote it in a thread where everyone was pointing out how terribly the 200X line seemed to be doing. He was making a joke (kind of making fun of the doomsayers), and the spelling errors reflected some common errors that some people made in their posts, especially the spelling of "teh". Ironically the people who thought that the line was doomed ended up being right.

Here's the irony in Mattel using this meme on a t-shirt and frankly in referencing it at all. On the one hand it's funny and cute and we all blush ever so slightly that we at any time during sub madness thought it might come true... but in reality it almost did. Scott and the Horsemen all but confirmed it. If we didn't sub in the line was DOA. Which of course is a majority reason why so many subbed in for 2013. So, to use that meme on a cutesy shirt seems oddly snarky when in fact the reality of "killing hte lien" almost really happened... if threats and rumors were to be believed. *uncomfortable silence*

Or you can see it as dark humor and self irony... As it's most likely intended. Scott is a fan just like the rest of us, I very much doubt he wants the line to end, and he's even said so.

Brad's got it right on. Ironically, I left the board after 200X croaked, and I actually had no idea that my old catch phrase caught on! They made a t-shirt and everything! I can't help but smile whenever I see it get referenced, especially seeing ToyGuru wearing the shirt. I know I'm lame for thinking so, but I think it's so cool.
