    December - Overloaded Again?

I just noticed that December is Mosquitor, ToD Sorceress, Procrustus and Granamyr. As a Loose and MOC collector that is $320 (if my maths is correct) and that is before shipping.

The price can be covered, especially if I budget for it, but that doesn't stop the displeasure I get from the boss (the wife) when it comes to actually spending the money.

Why does Mattel overload the Christmas month?

Yeah, that's right! They overload Dec (right when people are already spending so much at Christmas) and then they'll complain Procrustus and Granamyr only sold "okay"!

I'm thinking Procrustus was heavily delayed because of the schedule being all wonky, and since he's a part of the 2012 sub they want to deliver him in this year. It is a tough month. If all goes well, though, I'll have TOD Sorceress at PowerCon so that's one thing off the plate.

That is the thing. When they don't sell it means Castle Grayskull gets pushed further and further away. With prices going up we really need to get to CG sooner rather than later

And there is probably a good chance SOMETHING in the subs wil get delayed out past December and we'll be left waiting for this pricy package well into January like last year.

Cost generally has not been a huge concern for me so far, but even I looked at December and thought "Are you serious?!"

I hope to be getting ToD Sorceress, Granamyr, Procrustus, and Mosquitor. That's $160. If you think about it, that's almost a third of the cost for an entire sub in one month. Ridiculous.

..well cost is a MAJOR concern for me... not individually.. but dang!!! $320 before shipping?!?!
Saving for December alone will be SERIOUSLY ROUGH with so much coming out from now on for the rest of this year NOT COUNTING DECEMBER!!!

And Gran won't sell as well because of it (don't forget, we will directly be coming off of Black Friday/CyberMonday weekend as well), and it will get blamed on Gran, not the horrible timing. It will be Wind Raider all over again.

But then again, the people who make these decisions also do not know that the Chinese New Year has been regularly predictable for something like the last 3,000 years, so it's not much of a stretch to imagine they cannot do this math, either.

All very good point made guys. All I can add is that I'm frustrated because in December a figure is going to be left behind. Sorry Procrustus, I can only buy so much during the month of December for myself. I agree with TheFallen, I don't want to make "my boss" unhappy.

Again, I'm the furthest thing from a Matty Apologist that resides on this board, but I STILL can't understand why it's so difficult to budget for this...

As for "the bosses", are wives really that unreasonable that they'd give you crap for sticking back an additional $60 or so back each month and then spend it in December?

My sincerest condolences. I can't imagine how they must act when REAL issues arise...

you aren't wrong, but as a very disciplined body builder, I think it's more in your nature to schedule yourself properly. it's ingrained in you (if not naturally then it's developed.) Transfer that to regular folk, the abundance, even though months away looks intimidating. I want my body to look a certain way and honestly thinking about howfar away I am from it makes it a bit overwhelming and sometimes seemingly impossible. I do know it's best to just focus on the steps not the destination, but it's a matter of retraining your mind as well.

again you're 100% right, it's just challenging to overcome bad habits (physical, mental and financial) (but not nearly impossible)

Everyone's situations are different, it's easy to say 'put more money aside each month' and things like that, but when you're living from one month to the next, and when December is going to be an expensive month.

Last year in December I had to miss out on BG Evil Lynn and Demo-Man Day of sale because simply couldn't afford to get everything. I picked them up on the secondary market afterwards. This year, as a subscriber I don't have that luxury. I don't want to have to try to find TOD Sorceress or Granamyr on the secondary market 'cos they're going to be so expensive!

I'll try hard to budget, but it's not going to be easy. if it was easy for everyone then this thread wouldn't even exist. But not everyone's situation is the same.

Well think of it this way. You are spending on pieces of plastic, what is equivalent in some developing countries to several months wages. Maybe you just need to scale back and buy 1 of each, and not 2.

I do agree that December is going to be a heavy month. I myself can swing it, but it is going to hit my wallet hard. I wish they would push at least Granymir to jan or feb.

As far as we know, December should be overloaded, indeed. But I guess the announced schedule will be HEAVILY changed, and I can see more delays and a chaotic end of the year...

Since I won't get TOD Sorceress and Granamyr, it will be less overloaded for me, I guess.

I'm right there with you, how does it make it any different if the items come out in August, September, October, or November? You'll still be spending the same amount just at a later date than if the items came out earlier?

Because people are also trying to budget for Xmas, higher costing gas bills, etc.

Please disregard the actual numbers. Rather, look a the disbursement...I'm making a point.

    August...$50
    September...$50
    October...$60
    November...$50
    December...$10,000

    Total... $10,210

    August...$5000
    September...$100
    October...$110
    November...$4000
    December...$1000

    Total...$10,210

    August...$0
    September...$0
    October...$0
    November...$0
    December...$10,210

    Total...$10,210

    My point is....WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE???

Who cares if the money all comes due at once, mostly in December or evenly over the next 6 months? You know how much it's going to cost. Is it really that tough to not spend it in October/November and save it for December???

    Is it REALLY????

    BUDGET.

    That is the answer.

Whether you're budgeting for Christmas, Thanksgiving or to have the Easter Bunny over for dinner, there is NO difference in Mattel having that much product available in December or evenly over 3-4 months.

Not being "able to swing it" isn't a Mattel problem.

    THAT is a customer problem.

This is how I think of it, too, because either I want something or I don't, and I know if I pass on something I want because I don't want to spend that much at the moment, I'll likely end up spending double later on the secondary market, so I always just bite the bullet and buy it. In the long run, it ends up being cheaper. Also, the shipping for both big items together should be cheaper than two separate shipments, so I'm fine with it, but I do question Mattel's logic, as I know most people will have more of a problem with this schedule.

But if you were going to spend the money in earlier months to buy the same items that come out later, how hard is it to save the money you planned to spend earlier??? How is it better if these items come out in earlier months spread out? Because you can't save the same money you planned to spend in October on MOTUC till December? All I know is people will always have a problem no matter how things are done

My wife and I always have this talk and we agree that the money will spent in the end. However, I think a lot of it is psychological. Seeing $300 in a month is a bigger number than $66. I have the mindset that I like waiting to add money before I spend money even though I have far more in excess than needed to make the purchase already in there. So I will transfer money sometimes just for peace of mind. So I kind of see how it is imposing. But, getting a ton of items in an order is the best part. Honestly, December is the month of gluttony and greed anyway so cut loose!!!
