New Bios

Now this series is finally becoming one hell of an epic. It is like Game of Thrones meets Conan, and I love it.

Personally, I don't expect these bios to be among the greatest writings of our time, what I expect is a bio that gives me a little insight into the character, how he/she relates to other characters, and, if relevant, how they fit into the overall story being told. Maybe I just don't have real high literary expectations from a short bio written on the back of an action figure...that seems to leave me open to enjoying it, or not, for what it is.

I also don't mind character deaths in the bios. It gives the story a more epic feel, and makes this world full of magic and war a more believable while making the bad guys more evil! Besides, it's not like we have to turn or figures in if they kill someone off.

Neat stuff! More things I'll be using or ignoring.

Grayskullman is exactly what I thought he would be, and I love the idea! Kinda hilarious that Stratos dies...I've been making fun of him as a running gag in my in-package shots over the years, but I never thought he'd be picked next in the battle casualties! Not like I care anyway; I probably would have chosen him as well. Always been kinda boring, and the MotUC figure is even worse without any ability to hold stuff.

The Snakemen have FINALLY given me the fuel I needed! A spliced race of super-soldiers, almost. I LOVE it! Finally! I've always wondered what made the Snake Men so much more scary than any other of the races on Eternia. Cool thing is that in my story, most of the races have thier roots in the gene splicing that went on in the ancient past, so the Snake Men are the PERFECT super-soldiers that they would have been working toward! They could even be part of what destroyed the ancient technological civilization (that I have in my own story). Finally - FINALLY - The Snake Men are fearsome in my eyes!

Frosta was rather disappointing; barely learned anything about her. Guess I'll have to fill her in myself; not like I wasn't planning to anyway. I was hopng for some mention of the crush she seems to have on He-Man...though I've only figured that out from pics people have posted 'n all that. Ah well.

*sigh* Randor's bio sounds like the bio that should have been for Captain Randor. What will they put on Captain Randor's bio when this pretty much explains what Captain Randor would have been doing? What does Foppish Randor have to do with any of that? Was he all gussied up in his dorky theater gear when this all went down?

Procrustus is awesome and what I was hoping he would be in terms of importance, but I don't like that he's gotta stay there! That'll be one item I'll change on my own. Otherwise I like his status as sort-of Eternia's Atlus.

Man, Rattlor is COOL! Love every bit of that bio! I really like that he has dual duties as both Snake Man and Horde. Wish he had his 200X armor, though...

Cy-Chop is now even MORE awesome! Loving the bio there. Now I've got a rival for Trap-Jaw on the Horde's side! When he's working for the Horde, anyway. I like how he sounds like he could leave at any time, like Shadow from Final Fantasy 6. You pay him and all, but when he's done - he's done. And he's keeping the belt, dangit.

I didn't get that Frosta doesn't have powers except for her wand? The bio said the wand allows her to cast spells, and then also says "with the exception of her magic powers, she is otherwise a normal human female". Nowhere does it say her powers come from her wand or that she is non-magical...quite the opposite is said.

My understanding is that she's just like any other magic wielder (Marzo, Evil-Lyn, Castaspella) that use a magical object that grants them their powers. "She possesses a magic wand that whistles like the wind and lets her conjure ice spells and freezing rain against her enemies." It does seem that TG added the part of "she is otherwise a normal human female" to emphasize how she cannot use her ice power with her bare hands like she did in Filmation. He chose the "magic user" over the "mutant power" which is just personal preference.

I like the Grayskullman living embodiment of the Spirit of the Castle thing ... but why does the spell have to be a one-time only thing?

Think TG has made Rattlor's story more complex than needed - why not stick with the mini-comic story that Rattlor and Tung Lashor escaped banishment in the Void waaayyy back in Preternia days and hooked up with Hordak. Then, millenia later, Rattlor and Khan team up to free King Hiss and his army. Rattlor going off to the Horde after King Hiss' return makes no sense.

Thankyou, this is exactly what i wanted to see in the Rattlor bio and The General a seperate character. I was so stoked to see the rattlor reveal but now im disappointed, i hate this bio.

Yeah....although on the otherhand that makes Castle Grayskullman into one mega threat should all that power corrupt him and suddenly He-Man would have to fight the guy who beat all his enemies at once. And you know, anyone with a skull for a face has to have some kind of link to Skeletor...

Stratos dies, ok i understand this is a new take but i cant remember any of the present evil guys dying, lyn goes to the future, when are we going to see some baddies die. I know in filmation days he-man wasnt to hurt the bad guys but cmon i want some baddies dying now and less goddies.

Cy-Chop, WHY does Hordak need to hire him, as skeletor said to Ninjor and Scareglow in the comics, work for me or die. Hordak DOES NOT need to hire anyone.

Hate the Rattlor bio so much, its all around the wrong way, Rattlor leads Hiss army, id rather him instead of going to the Horde taking on hiss with his fellow snakes, goes against everything MYP defecting to the Horde, also how KK manipulates Hiss, i dont think so.

Now im uncertain on how they will do Tung Lashor aswell, really worries me, i love the horde more then any faction and really wanted Tung Lashor and Rattlor working for Hordak ONLY because the Snakemen were banished to another dimension, they had to be seperate characters.

TG has always said that classics tries to use as many characters as possible, wish Rattlor and THE GENERAL were 2 seperate characters, scares me about Tung Lashor now.

The Bios are pretty decent. I don't care for Mosquitor being stupid...I liked it on the staction where they mentioned how he never talked and creeped everyone in the horde out.

The rest are pretty good. Cy Chop has a great bio, it's a shame I don't care for the look.

Finally Castle Grayskullman...he reminds me of those giant statues that defended Hogwarts in the Deathly Hollows. "I've always wanted to cast that spell!"

Just 'cos the bio says stratos 'falls' that's doesn't necessarily means Stratos dies.

TG really needs to hire a proof reader. One of them mentions someone being 'lead' into battle. Ugh!

I'm going to stop arguing that the writing of the 'bios' suck. Those of us who feel that way (failry) give credit when it's due but it seems so few and far between when it's due. Tired of beating a dead horse and then getting into arguements with those who think the bios are brilliant.

I'll repeat my point one last time. I LIKE that TG says the main point of the bios is to maximize figure potential (but I don't see why they need bios to justify that) everything else regarding them (in general) is just bad writing and a forced attempt at merging all canons.

It's fine if characters die in an epic well written story, but in a blurb on the back of a toy...it's empty and unsatisfying, even annoying. It DOESN'T "mature the story" just as swear words don't make for poignant, meaningful dialogue.

Oh, I forgot to mention there is a continuity CHANGE I do not like in King Randor's bio. It states that HE mortally wounds his brother, Keldor. This...I do not like. In MYP, Keldor tries to kill Captain Randor with a vile of acid. When Randor deflects it with his shield, it splashes in Keldor's face. Kedor mortally wounds himself blinded by his thirst for revenge against his brother.

Randor would NEVER kill his brother!

Why add Spector and Lazer Lot and not kill them? That would´ve made sense

I like the bios overall.

Mosquitor's is very interesting, it doesn't bother me that he isn't bright. I LOVE his real name though - it really suits him.

Rattlor's is good - I like the General get's a mention - but it seems a bit back-to-front. I like how Khan get's one over Rattlor and Hsss favours him - he had this coming in the MYP series

Dekker, Procrustus, Sy-Chop, CGM have all decent bios with enough background - I have no issue with Stratos dying.

Randor's bio is a bit of a repeat

Frosta's is my least favourite if I'm being honest. The name "Queen MacKenzie" just doesn't fit. "Empresss Frosta" would have been enough. Also I don't like the idea of all magical characters relying on their staffs or amulets - They should be magical themselves - clearly as Frosta has been the cartoon. Still love the figure though...

Rattlor - Although it might have been nice if "Rattlor" and the "General" had been two seperate characters, it is nice that they make reference to Rattlor´s role as "The General". But though I do like that they also included his role as a member of the Horde, I don´t think earning the role of The General under the Horde seems right. I mean, I could see with the Snake Men as he was a major player, but after his defect I can´t see him as more than another common Hordesman .

The bio makes Rattlor out to be a great acquistion for Hordak. I was so against Rattlor and the General being the same character, because I wanted a MYP Rattlor in Classics. But this works if we could get a General figure in the future! I hope he looks MYP cartoon accurate via a power-up from Hordak. The General's bio will probably tell of his ultimate fate, since Skeletor defeats Hordak and He-Man and She-Ra defeat Horde Prime. Maybe The General eats Kobra Khan...

Frosta - Didnt like that they empathized that she was a normal human. Yes, I do think she should have some ice powers even without her wand, but even if you accept the fact that she is powerless without it, just the way it was worded felt a little forced in I think. Other than that its an okay bio, and although its not a deal breaker for me by any means, I would have liked a mention or even a little hint about her crush on He-Man, especially with her going through the portal to Eternia to help fight the Horde. (Also just realized, if Frosta goes to Eternia... who is ruling the Kingdom of Snows in her absence?)

Possibly some trusted regent. I'm sure this is true of all of the warrior kings in the mythos, like Stratos, Buzz-Off and Carnivus. I wish that Frosta's bio would have mentioned her attraction to He-Man. It's one of the biggest reasons why she's as popular as she is, besides her design.

Agreed. I love Stratos despite his often underdog status with MOTU fans, but killing him off really stinks.

I'll give ToyGuru credit for trying to cram so many decades worth of MOTU stories & concepts into 1 canon, but I wish he'd knock off all the death. Maybe if he stopped hanging out with Geoff Johns, the DCU's resident Grim Reaper, he might not be so death happy.

I wish they developed the underdeveloped older characters instead of bumping them off.

Why kill off Ram Man or Man-E-Faces when they can be re-used for the "Son of He-Man" era variants?

My take on the bios:

Castle Grayskullman: Exactly where I thought this would be headed, only with an army of them instead of just one character. I'll be army building him for sure.

Rattlor: Kahn is able to get Hsss to demote him? Nah, I always prefer the MYP-verse where Kahn is the one who is looked down upon. I *could* see that after Hsss's defeat, Rattlor joins the Horde in hopes of finding a way to bring back his King.

Frosta: Mackenzie? Yeah, ok. I bet Glimmer's real name will be Skipper. It's cool that she's got the want, but I'm not liking that she has no powers on her own. So screw that, she's got her ice powers in my universe.

Randor: We all know who he is, so does his bio even matter? Nothing of note here.

Cy-Chop: Very cool that he was partners with Kronis. I'm betting that revenge will be on his mind when they meet again.

Snake Men: Spliced together, huh? Whatever, this is MOTU! Screw science!

Mosquitor: I like the silent and creepy version, not this dumb one, so that's what I'll go with.

Dekker: Not much to say here. He's MAA's retired mentor. Move along.

Procrustus: So we're buying a figure who's purpose and action feature is being stuck underground and immobile all the time? Do the Spaleans and Caligars know about him? Hmmmm...

I think that's all of them. I take all the bios with a grain of salt, but it's always cool reading what someone else came up with, even if it doesn't work for me.

I HATE this part SO MUCH!
The Snakemen should NEVER be part of the Horde. The only reason I'd accept this would be mind control (like the bios of Leech and Grizzlor state).
The MYP Rattlor would never join the Horde. He's way too loyal. Of course his demotion would crush him, but this wouldn't make him join Hordak. He should swear revenge to Khan and eventually get it.
Also he already was called "The General" when commanding Hiss' troops!

Snakemen: Aren't they supposed to be an actual race? I prefer Hiss to be the type that hates any race that doesn't have scales and consider them food rather than brainwashing and mutating them to become Snakemen.

After reading the CGMbio that's the direction I was gonna go with. I like it. They are all pretty good. Stratos dies we that's what you get not packing in a weapon for him to fight with. I mean really what does he do fly right into you. He still needs a weapon.

I agree Stratos is lame He probably is one of my least favorite characters and figures, completely boring. I really don't understand why people get so bothered by characters dying/being killed off? It's a story element that works to affect readers because they care about the characters and seemingly it works a little too well.

I happen to like the real names. All of them. The only thing better than the real names, are the over-the-top reaction from the fans who don't like the names no matter what they are.
Mackenzie is bad b/c it's Scottish, but vintage Scottish Duncan gets a pass. Ok.

These bios are great for the most part. Standouts are Castle Grayskullman's, and Dekker's. It's pretty much exactly how I hoped CG Man's would be.
I also like the 'universe' and sci-fi feel to some of these (Snake Men, Cy-Chop, Mosquitor).

My only problem is Rattlor's. While a good bio, it kills any hope of an MYP General figure being a separate guy.
