CAC Entries Compiled as a Book?

I think if they took all the entries for the Create-A-Character contest and put them into a nice glossy full color coffee-table book that would be awesome!

Anyone else want to see something like that?

A rushed digitally printed softcover is more likely ... we're talking about Mattel here, not the Power & Honour Foundation.

Well maybe they could contract it out to the Power & Honour Foundation.

I'm sure most of the entries were awful, so they'd only be worth seeing if they were redone by professional artists like the images for the runners up.

I know that there were 1300+ entries but I'd love to see them do what they did for the runners up. I'd love to see what mine would've looked like if it was drawn well. LOL

Not only would I love that, but I think it would be phenomenal if once a year they released one of them as a figure (without the extra benefits of the winning selection).

I think they are worried about people jumping on campaigns for figures that didn't win. The 200 or so on here can get loud.

Also makes me wonder about the no posting rule, He-Man and everyone else is Mattel property too. Why can we post drawings of everyone else and such but I can't post a drawing of my evil Aviaon warrior?

I would like a book, preferably digital PDF or something so we can have it, but not have to pay a fortune for it!

I think Mattel doesn't want CAC entries posted by individuals because they might use the ideas for other toy lines. If they are posted (not by Mattel), other toy companies can see the ideas and use them...and it would be hard for Mattel to prove they own the idea another toy company used when they have not published the idea (the proof). Just speculation.

This would be a GREAT reason for Mattel to at least publish them in a digital book though. Because they own these designs and can state it in the book! Then, they can legally go after anyone that uses something that looks like any of the 1300 entries they got.

I totally agree with this! I'd LOVE to see what they could do with those 1300+ drawings that they got...

Mattel would be smart to show off these characters somehow, I think. They are wanting to keep making toys and wanting to move the line forward. So getting the concepts in front of people might make people want certain characters. I think it makes sense.

At this point, I think they talked about maybe some kind of display at PowerCon.

I would love to see something like this. I don't know if it's disappointment in the winner or the runners up or envy that none of my multiple entries were chosen. Probably a combination of both. After spending nearly $100 in postage (certified mail each time) and countless hours designing I can't even share my ideas with the world, just my family. I think that a book like this would be the way for the world to be able to see what everyone else contributed while still giving Mattel ownership. 2 ideas that I have regarding this book:

    1) publish the designs as is giving both character and creator names.
    2) publish the designs as is giving both character and creator names along with another artist rendition of the character to have a unified look. (long shot, I know.)

Also, it would be nice if Mattel would at least list (or contact) the designers of the entrants that were rejected due to arriving after the contest's deadline.

    This indeed would be great,
just look at the thread count when there's a create a character for funtest here, who wouldn't want to see a book of awesome ideas, and pics, even if a lot of pics weren't that great, that's ok, alot of the pics from the old Mattel designers weren't great, but it's fun to see none the less,

Also Mattel could have guaranteed sales of all the people that entered, who wouldn't want to see there pics printed in a official MOTU book.

I would love to get a book with the ~1300 characters. But maybe while we wait Mattel can tell us how many of each faction was represented by the fans.

I would be interested but i imagine Mattel doesnt want people campaigning for characters to be made.
