    Colorado Theater Shooting

    Hiya.

I just wanted to take a moment away from the excitement on our boards to say my thoughts and prayers are with those injured at the shooting at a Batman premier in CO, their families, an the families of those who were killed by the gunman. My thoughts and prayers also go out to the survivors, some things can never be unseen.

I hope none of our fellow .orgers were affected by this tragedy.

Here is a link to one report of the story. *warning, contains graphic witness accounts*

I live right down the street from that theater, and that is the one my g/f and I go to all of the time. We didn't go to the midnight showing because I have a job interview at 10 today. I was woken up last night by the sirens, but did not know what it was about until this morning when my friends called me and woke me up. I want to know why they allowed the guy that did it to live!! He should be in the morgue right now full of bullet holes from the cops, not in a prison cell awaiting a trial.
Can someone PM me the US number for Matty? I want to talk to someone who might has a clue of what is going on.

man. I am really glad you had an interview.

this news makes my stomach sick. I can't help but realize how glorified evil is in movies like these. sure it is pretend, but it seems like when you get someone with a screw loose, they think they can be "bane" or known as an evil to be dealt with. its really really sick. Nolan and Bale must feel so SICK. same with Hardy.

The families are in my prayers.

My thoughts also go out to the people killed and injured and their families.

The fact he was wearing a mask and that he opened fire during a shootout happening on a movie really just brings the image of Bane to the front of my mind.

Best I can say is that I wish people never had to experience terror like this. I just hate how one human can decide what the rest will be doing by just making one decision. Whether it's deciding to be a jerk, or deciding to do something absolutely horrifying. Our free will scares the crap out of me sometimes.

That was my first thought - was he trying to be Bane? Never could understand why people do things like this. Its just senseless.

yeah. this brings me to the "realism" that Nolan was trying to do.... I dont want to split hairs here, but I would never have ever imagined someone doing this at, say, Batman and Robin movie......

but Nolan went out of his way to make this / these movies as real as possible, only makes me cringe, because if you ask me, "could you have seen this happening" i would have to honestly answer yes......

If it wasn't DKR, it would have been something else. This individual is just disturbed.

My heart goes out to the victims of this senseless tragedy.

Excuse me, but I completely disagree with your statement.
The shooter is clearly insane, and as has been stated, it could have been any other reason that'd have triggered what he disgustingly has done. If a person like that cannot distinguish between reality & fantasy, it could have been affected by any film, some of them much more explicit toward murdering. It is extremely sad that these kind of cases may be happening quite sadly often in the last 15 years

My job Corporate facilities are in 10 miles from that cinema, and thanks God, none of my fellow co-workers have attended that screening.
However, my feelings and prayers for soon relief for all those families who were affected by this tragedy

This was the first things I saw after I got ready for work this morning. I have been pretty mad about this all day. My heart goes out to the families.

Not knowing anything about this tragedy, my innocent little 4.5 year old son picked out his Batman (Movie) costume to take to "Show and Tell" today. I couldn't bring myself to tell him "No". Why should I scare him with the facts that you can got to see a movie and be murdered. I don't think he will learn about this for many years, if I ever tell him.

I was eagerly anticipating the release of this movie. Now... I almost wish it had not come out on this day. I suppose the guy would have probably done this to another movie, though I do wonder if the huge popularity of the Nolan Batman series was what led him to pick it over any other.

I guess its the popularity, rather than the movie itself, that feels to me why he picked this one. It makes a twisted kind of sense I guess. No better place to kill a bunch of people than the most popular movie of the summer. Guess I'm just sick to think he felt that he had to kill a bunch of people and he did it in a movie about a superhero. There's no fathoming what drives people.

And here is some food for thought, although it came from a network most of you probably don't like. This guy is right. Batman didn't do this.

I'm glad they were able to take him alive. This scumbag didn't deserve an easy way out of this. Out in the real world, this lowlife thought he was a tough guy with a shotgun. Well guess what, he won't be a tough guy in prison. He'll be getting what's coming to him, over and over again, for a long time to come.

My condolences to the families and victims of this needless tragedy.

About the realism infused by Nolan in these movies may be one of the reasons that have caused an insane to do such horrible acts; or if this could have been foreseen in anticipation.
It is pretty much the same kind of opinion that has arisen 12 years ago because of some sad similar events and blaming in a sort of way to Marilyn Mason music or The Matrix.

That is what I interpreted from your statement, if it's something different that I may have not completely understood, I do apology. However, some further exposition from your statement shall be greatly appreciated.

no. i dont think so. I understand. I am just saying that the heaviness of that, isn't "discouraging" these sort of acts. I mean, how many of us think Joker was amazing, but if it was real, it would be sick......

It seemed to be an OUTLET for this guy to do these things. sure he might have done it anyways, but I personally do not think, again, that if it was a corney Batman and Robin movie this guy would have chosen this time. its just my opinion.

This could have easily happened during The Avengers. The Dark Knight didn't create this killer.

This could have happened in any movie anywhere in the country. The guy just picked the theater he lived by (he is on the opposite side from us though) and did it probably because he knew it would be the most packed being the biggest movie of the summer.

Sad part of this is (not tragic) it ruins the fun for everyone as now every theater is going to no longer allow people to wear costumes, they will probably eliminate midnight showings, and soon there will be metal detectors in theater doors. This guy not only murdered all of these people, but he has also ruined a fun and enjoyable industry for everyone and everything on multiple levels.

This could of happened at a theme park because the shooter didn't like kids....

This could of happened at a Twinkies facility because a worker was fired....

I'm not trying to be funny, but realistic. **** happens EVERY DAY ALL DAY and there's really nothing you can do about it when you have some one who's determined and dead set with an agenda.

It's the sad and unfortunate truth, but reality.

This is very sad. The gunmen told police "I am the Joker" according to a couple articles I read.
Hopefully no board members were at the theatre, I know we have several from the general area.
Hopefully none of his "booby traps" in his apartment go off... and that is the only place he left them.

I posted this up over at Darkhorizon's news report, so I'll just repost it here.

Death in any form and fashion is a horrible thing and peoples sensitivities absolutely should be respected. But when we start overblowing the proportions of what happened, or even begin down the path of overblowing said proportions with fear mongering reactions, we start creating a space for people to panic which allows people to feel fear and other people to use fear to their own advantage (whatever they may be).

President Obama's reactions, Mitt Romney's reactions (and so on and so on) are a bit much, but kinda harmless. Chris Nolan's response was dignified and well done. But taking down advertisements, ending premiers and press junkets in other countries, and trying to hop on board the "we are sensitive train" by not releasing box office numbers and increasing security for screenings is a sad state for the world to live by. Grow up and respect what happened by not fearing it, but instead respecting it.
