Should Mattel sell the MOTU brand?

With all the issues surrounding the Classics line and what appears to be a lack of belief by the company responsible for this great Toy Line, would you like to see Mattel cut its loses and sell the brand to another company that would be slightly more dedicated and less Barbie (i.e. profit) oriented?

NO! Mattel has always owned MOTU and always will own MOTU even if they have no toyline.

Mattel isn't going to sell their Intellectual Property to anyone. This question has been asked before and is moot. Topic should be locked.

I'm going to have to agree, that although Mattel is evil incarnate, They belong to MOTU and vise versa.

Sure. Why don't you guys chip in and make them an offer. I await your MOTU leadership with baited breath.

The line has outlasted POP, NA, 200x and is closing in on the original MOTU in its prime. More unique characters have been produced. Far more fan interaction has taken place. The line has been locked in through the end of 2013 at least. I'm sorry the fans don't get every single want met, but it's hardly a faltering anemic line.

Agreed, 100%. When all is said and done and this line is looked at in the history books, I can't imagine it having been any better. OK, I can imagine fully articulated 200X figures, but I digress....

Nobody likes a bully who can't treat new forum members with some measure of respect and appreciate that perhaps they didn't realize there were "infinity" other threads.

Sucks that this forum has been bogged down with "infinity" of these threads, that must be tough on bandwidth.

Ok, your post made me literally laugh out loud. However, Mattel is extremely unlikely to ever sell MOTU. License it out? Perhaps. Sell? Never.

Negative. If the sub numbers are not met (which I assume they will be by the 6th), the line in 2013 isn't happening.
Sadly, you can't divorce emotion from a toyline based on nostalgia.

Sorry man, didn't see that you literally just joined the forums. I meant no disrespect, nor did I mean to bully. As a new member, I do recommend using the search feature to find similar, old threads. The actual mods are likely to combine this thread with an older one anyway to keep things clean. Not trying to backseat moderate, believe me, just offering some tips.

The reason for my curt response (other than having seen this question asked a million times already ) is thus - this question, when you think about it, is like asking 'Would DC Comics sell Green Lantern because the movie didn't do so well?' Or something similar to that. It's a situation that just has a very high likelihood of never happening.

Mattel know MOTU is a money maker, they've made LOTS of money with it, they just don't know how to manage it past a certain point because mattel gets comfortable and then inflexible with how they do something. when MOTUC ends, they will in time open up the doors of grayskull agaion to figure out how to mmonetize the brand. a movie is coming that will be their focus. hopefully we will get the mini masters with them!

This would be the only scenario that selling the brand would be acceptable.

But let's face it, Mattel won't. They'd sooner see it languish in obscurity then let someone else show them up on how you treat a property like MOTU.

For me, Mattel IS MOTU and MOTU is Mattel. It's kind of like Nintendo selling Mario: impossibru!

I don't think they will... but it would be good, since they seem so reluctant to produce and sell MOTU products.

No...even with all of the BS, it is still one of the most aesthetically appealing lines ever....I know Mattel didn't do this, but they employ the 4H....so there.

Now Bandai, on the other hand needs to be bumped from ever making Thundercats again....Anyone could do a better job than what that line became, what a mess that was.
    Recent....Strobo & Snake Face
Coming....Foe Men, Karatti & Spirit of Hordak!!!
Wanted....Filmation Hordak & Clawful, Seahawk, Castaspella, Batros & Icer
    Considering....Mosquitor, Leech
    Needed....Dragstor, Mantenna,Two Bad & Attack Trak

to answer the question; no mattel should not sell MOTU the brand ... that would be the worst thing that could ever happen ... and why on earth would mattel even consider it? ...

where would it leave us? (the fans) ...

MOTUC is a line ran and produced by fans for the fans - despite public belief, scott and the 4H cannot alter the state of the economy ...

please, let's relax and take stock ...

OK, let's look at our options:

    1) Hasbro - not going to happen because they are Mattel's #1 competition. Hasbro would never get the line off the ground unless they could sell it to retail, which I highly doubt they can until there is a movie coming out. Even then it would be a short-lived 1 year and done line.

    2) Bandai - Thundercats anyone? That has a cartoon backing it and they sunk the line in less than a year.

    3) NECA - They would only be interested if they could sell it to retail and we would be stuck with endless variants of whatever they produced.

    4) Playmates - Only if retail interest.

I don't think anyone else is going to go the online only route that Mattel has been offering. And if you look around at retail shelves, there is almost nothing that isn't supported by a major media tie-in such as a movie, cartoons, or comics. MOTU has none of those things. I think it would die a quick death at retail.
