Though Skeletor is now on the throne soon King Randor and King Miro will return bringing with them the subscribers necessary to win and take over. Then we shall all hail King He-Man!!!

As much as I'd LOVE to see MOTUC continue for 2013, 14, and beyond, I just don't see them hitting over 50% more subs in less than 2 weeks, especially with all the "no subs for me" posts we have in this thread. I have bought a sub myself, though.

With the amount of negativity that seems to be floating in the air toward Mattel, Scott and Digital River, it would surely seem like the line at the $25 mark is done and over with. Right now it feels like the line might only survive at a much higher price point than what is on the table if we hit the minimum number of subs.

I don't think the line will be completely dead, but even if we hit the goal or not, it's definitely on life support. Unfortunately.

I do not think the 2013 Club Eternia subscription is going to move forward as planned. I imagine we'll see Ram Man at a $50 price point at some convention mid-way through 2013 and maybe the occasional bi-annual release with limited new tooling, one accessory and no fancy paint apps here and there at a ridiculously expensive price. But I can't see, if we're only halfway there with about a week to go, us pushing past the 100% mark and making things all fine and dandy with MOTUC again.

I am going to sub this year but its only going to be 1 sub and not the 2 that I've been getting every year. Main cause of the cost of the figures is the reason I am going with 1 and then I will buy a 2nd on the day of sale or early access. I WILL be subbing but I can't till I get paid.

I have no idea, it could go either way.

Like i said years ago when everyone was arguing about liking all the extract figures like star sisters, just come out with what i want & the majority want "the vintage figures" All that fancy stuff was going to kill the line (it just happend faster than i thought) Not everyone is a die hard

Sounds to me like they already spent a lot of money on the '13 figures & they want us to sign up to make the $ up for what they have spent.

But i doubt they are going to finish

I don't know if the line will end outright, but without some major restructuring of the business model, including addressing many of the long-standing customer concerns, I will be very surprised if the line is around in 2014 in any form.

If they're having so much trouble in 2012 making the sales quotas, inevitably this will be appreciably worse a year from now. Mattel needs to rethink its approach to customers. Some have compared the subscription model to how Mattel sells to retail vendors - a year of product, shopped around to various chain stores, and if they meet necessary orders, production ensues. Well, we're the end customers, and this is an incompatible approach with how most individuals do business, only lasting as long as it has due to the dedication of the fans.

There have been numerous suggestions thrown around how Mattel might move forward from this outmoded way of thinking, but ultimately it's up to them if the want to grow and change with the times, or remain dinosaurs in an ever evolving collector market.

If they choose the tried and untrue approach, however, I do think the line will unfortunately end in the near future.

Come on, the DCUC line was in much uglier shape last year (it met its first deadline with, what?, something like under 25% of its minimum), it never reached 100%, and it did survive (and DCUC is a licensed line, which means lesser potential profits). Seriously, it doesn't stand to reason that Mattel would suddenly kill MotUC off at the drop of a hat, when they've already invested quite a lot of money into the 2013 line (which has been on the planning since long ago and with several characters being, at this stage, already tooled and almost ready to enter production).

There's been way too much of this frenzied gloom-and-doom talk lately, and Mattel's employees are only going to keep fanning the "It's DYYYYING!!!! You all MUST buy TEN SUBS EACH now or else the line will surely DIEEEEE!!" panicking flames to attempt to get as many customers as possible to commit their hard-earned dollars (just like they did last year when the DCUC sub numbers weren't looking all that fine).

Let's try to remain calm and coolheaded. When all this over-the-top "It's dying! We must save the line!!!" panic is over and, just like it happened with DCUC last year, Mattel announces that MotUC is (in some way or another) going forward, I'm foreseeing more than a few will regret having let their hearts rule over their heads and bought more subs than they could actually afford.

My gut tells me we'll pull it off somehow, but I'm braced for the worst.

The line of classics figures itself will not be dead. I don't see the line dying for a few more years yet. If JLU is still getting figures then I can feel pretty confident that there will still be classics figures in some capacity for a few more years.

The line as it is now, and especially the business model, are close to dead. I just hope Mattel realise this.

Yes. I believe it will be dead. However, they will continue to release figures in 2013 and will limp into 2014 before collapsing.

No. If they don't get enough buyers for the sub, they'd probably go to pre-orders, day of sales, and/or a smaller subscription options. It would probably mean less figures per year, higher prices per figure, and just the popular characters, but I don't think the line will die.

NO! Every product sold out, some under a couple of minutes, how does that pair with not good enough?

    A: it doesn't.

The way I see it, Mattel knows they can sell MOTUC no matter how they sell them, if the sub dies, I believe Mattel is too greedy not to do PO's for the more popular Vintage figures (MOTU & POP) and that will still take a while to get them all done even with PO's....and that would be on a figure by figure basis....I have no doubt those figures would make it, maybe not the Movie figures, or the rock guys, or the spinner guys, but Mantenna, Dragstor, Modulock and the like can make it.

    Who knows, we'll see.

I think 2013 was always a lock, but they did this to temper us for a hard 2014. It makes no sense for them to go through all the expense they did at SDCC with all these newly-sculpted examples. It's totally illogical. Now maybe it is in trouble for 2014 and they want to set the expectation that subs are the only way this thing is going to continue. That makes more sense to me.
