Hmmm, I am not sure if I liked it. Art wasn't great, story was interesting.

I want to like it but I also want to dislike it.

Aside from the ambiguous Teela/She-Ra in the battle (and at the end?),
I really liked this one! If you go with a non-talking Cringer/Battle Cat, this is how I could actually see his thought processes working... Basic, animalistic, but intelligent enough to have feelings and thoughts that drive him.

And I love the splash page!!

Nice comic, I really got the MOTU vibe from it. Best comic in this series so far!

    Just read it...

    Here are some random thoughts:

    - So this Mer Man has a tail...ok...

    - blond Teela... MEH - don't like her design either

    - So once he is turned into Battle Cat, Cringer simply looks like an adult of his race? He doesn't get bigger than that?
Not liking that too much... it kinda takes away what makes BC special

    - Being hunted by dylinxes for that long is a nice way to describe Cringer's fear of everything

    - I never liked how Cringer was able to talk, so I really appreciated the way Cringer's thoughts were displayed. I always thought it would be cool if He-Man simply could "hear" what he thinks.

    - The last drawing of He-Man looked bad and I mean BAD. He looks...fat and has bad proportions all over himself...

The comic was pretty good - not great.

I think, it is clear that he is the most powerful of his clan/tribe. His father was the most powerful member, but even he cannot take on 3 panthers. After transforming of Cringer the scene clearly shows the fear in the eyes of the 3 assassins. So he is too powerful for all of them and therefore more powerful than his father, being infused with the Power of Grayskull.

Nice story, but leaves me filled with questions. I imagine they will be answered in the main series. Any idea who will star in August spotlight stories?

What if him being chased by the dylinxes and being transformed into BC are supposed to be metaphors - the fear and the cure for the fear.
    I would so love that!
And opposed to being chased by them for days (how did he manage to survive that long?) I think being chased by his fear (in shape of the ones who killed his father) makes much more sense - to me anyway...

    Circle of Life....

I'm against Battle Cat/Cringer talking, but if Mike Costa is using captions to relay Cringer's thoughts and dreams, he might as well have him talk.

I like the explanation of why Cringer is always so fearful...traumatic experience.

"No need of family, no need of love" worries me.

It's probably Teela at the end, but reading a book seems...I dunno...princess-like. I had to double check, but the hair color and tiara are the same.

"home is the battlefield. no need of family, no need of love. the glory of the battle! victory! foes falling under claws. bones cracking between jaws."

really? Battle Cat is a bloodthirsty, traumatized, sadistic, schizophrenic, savage beast that kills for glory?

that's not the Battle Cat i love. for me he was always a very gentle and kind hearted fellow that overcame his own fears to protect the innocent and fight for good. this new gory interpretation hast nothing to do with MOTU imo. i don't know why comic writers/artist these days think they have to spill blood on every page.

and as for Teela. even we hard core fans don't recognize her. why are they taking the name "MOTU" and then give us something totally new?

No need for spoiler tags in the this thread.

I am wondering if that is supposed to be Queen Teela at the end (after she marries He-Man)?

That struck me as odd too. Mike Costa had a hard time writing Transformers, let alone giant green tigers. He made Prime quit, killed Ironhide and made Bumblebee leader of the Autobots.

But to be fair, Pre-Filmation Battle Cat openly liked to kill things "With fang and claw" too, so it's not unfounded. Filmation BC liked to fight, but could be gentle at times.

and as for Teela. even we hard core fans don't recognize her. why are they taking the name "MOTU" and then give us something totally new?
That's because the creative team probably doesn't have a passion for the characters. Even if it were Blonde Teela, an artist who knows and loves the property might have made certain we definitely knew who that was.

I do miss the old MVC days where we could look at a background and see various Easter Eggs from all over MOTU lore. That scene where Teela is walking into the room and the last page were perfect opportunities for that. IDW's current TF books do this all the time. If only Mattel would hire fan artists...

Maybe Giffen's run will be different.

I really liked this one. All of the digital shorts are better than the regular Issue #1. There's more story in fewer pages.

    No talking = great.

I didn't like the "No need for family, no need for love" line. But that idea got erased with the last page.

I LOVE Teela's new looks. Both look great.

I'm glad they kept the part of the Tigers getting slaughtered toned down to some degree, I was dreading turning the page tbh.

I still like Cringer's MYP depiction the best. I don't think there was trauma there...he was naturally afraid of things that a pet might be afraid of, but also unafraid and heroic during other times. It seemed completely natural. But this story is okay.

    Completely disagree...just b/c something doesn't speak, doesn't mean they don't think.
And what is wrong with reading a book? That was one of the best panels in the story.

I'm not saying that he can't think, but I just found it strange that we can read his thoughts.

I like the scene too, but it seems so un-Teela-like. However, I have to remember that this DC series is a new version of characters and to throw all of the old various characterizations out the window.

I'm sort of half and half with Cringer/Battlecat's thought bubbles. I really don't want to see a talking Cringer, but the thought/narration was a bit grating after a while. Though since this is probably a one off I can easily dismiss it.

I thought the comic was alright overall, though the story may be a bit more violent than necessary (though I do prefer a darker tone myself, it's a balancing act basically). The story was a bit 'Lion King', but it provides a decent backstory and motivation for Cringer. Though I think the art was ok overall, but pretty weird at times. Cringer shouldn't look as big as Battlecat in my opinion, it's like Filmation He-man being a tanned Prince Adam to me. Plus at times he looked less like a tiger and more like Beast from X-men. His face and even body at times were less cat like and more human at times.

The Te-Dora thing. It's more than likely Teela (sadly). She's really blonde and I just can't get over that. It's not her. Overall it's a nice design (in my opinion) and I'd be fine if her hair was the right colour, but it would make a great design for Adora too. Plus the implications of that being Adora rather than Teela could mean a different interpretation of the She-Ra story. Which would be interesting to me.

What was up with He-man's massive belt? Did he win a new WWE championship I'm not aware of? Well at least the scale-mail wasn't all over the place.

Was that Mer-man or one of his followers? It seems fairly different to issue 1's take on him. Even though that wasn't the best interpretation either and I think the art was better here, he seems less distinct and just a basic Mer-person than Mer-man himself.

Though overall I still think MAA is the better issue so far.

I still think the flashback was part "true" (dylinx killing his clan and family) and part metaphor (fear and courage/power).

That's so funny, because I may sound like an idiot (won't be the first time) but I thought it was some new design for Marlena and assumed it was her.

I think this is the worst of the three so far. The first one was ok, aside from Malificent, er, Evil-Lyn's new design, and the fact that I just don't give a care about Laser Lot. The second one was pretty good, mostly because it actually told a story. But this one - it just didn't make a ton of sense. I didn't understand why or how He-man just showed up in the background with his magic sword to transform Battle Cat (he was just walking in the woods?), and while I liked that there was an explanation for Cringer being traumatized but I think that just highlighted the fact that it's an odd character trait anyway, as there doesn't seem to be "memory loss" between transformations) and actually just makes Cringer kind of sad.

While I like he got some attention, I feel like the best part of Cringer/Battle Cat was his relationship with Adam/He-man, and I would like to have seen a story around their first meeting/why they are together, and this left that part out completely. I just felt sorry for him (and the encounter with the guy on the stairs wasn't explained well, either).

Finally, have to agree - the art, especially the last page, was atrocious. I like a variety of styles, but this "rough draft" type just isn't very interesting to me.

I think it's pretty funny (and at the same time, sad) that we're now 4 issues in to this new MOTU comic series and we still do not know if that's Teela or She-Ra.

I'm leaning more towards Teela, since she has the white, furry neck collar. Her outfit details in the "standing triumphant" group shot, reminds me HEAVILY of the 1987 Movie She-Ra concept though...:

    - She-Ra's hair
    - She-Ra's sword
    - She-Ra's clothes

    ...it's probably Teela.

This story was told somewhere before. The Tygors vs Panthors (and is on box art). In Filmation, Battle Cat's Family was killed by a different creature though. Never explicitly stated, but heavily implied.

I liked the story. I hope He-Man can talk to Battle Cat telepathically.

RE: books. Filmation Teela was very bookish. Her father trained her in many aspects (not just fighting, but technology, etc.) and she even went to Eternian University and that dude fell in love with her and went all dark when she didn't love him back (or still). Little fuzzy as I'm extremely tired.

EDIT: I wonder if Mer-Man and Whiplash have been combined into ONE character? His character design (and tail/use of tail) would seem that way. Maybe they combined She-Ra and Teela in the same manner? Both of those things wouldn't make me happy though.

I liked the story, by the way.

I think I learnt more about being a good person from He-man, then I did in church.
