MOTUC Q&A's From Around the Net (8/1/2012)

    Hordak.de

    1. Mattel asurred us time and time again that by 2016, if we would take a look at our toyshelfs we would have a very complete collection. 2013 is coming and we are almost half-way through with the announcements. We knoe there will be the fan choice figure, Netossa, Jitsu, Fang Man and the Snake Face shield has been revealed. That leaves only 7 monthly slots open and we know that the year will show some love for filmation characters. But ONCE AGAIN we haven't seen any love for the NA section of MotU. Almost 5 years into the line yet and still only three figures with none announced. There have been about 26 vintage figures, 3 prototypes (Mara, Darius and a Kayo variant) and there are a lot of important Jetlag characters left. When does Mattel plan to release those? Fans are now in fear that the line could really die before these come out. Price increase, reduced slots and toyline flooded with a mass of vintage characters could lead to an early death for our beloved line. How will Mattel fix this issue? Will we only get one NA figure in 2013 AGAIN?

More NA is coming and their will be multiple NA figures in 2013!

    2. The reduced quarterly slots lead to some thoughts. We will get a 30$ slot (Ram Man), a 75$ slot (Fighting Foe Men), a 25$ slot (surely a variant) and a 50$ slot. This means that we either won't have the Horde Troopers out in 2013 OR there will be no real beast (Ram Man is not really a beast, is he?)
It is a good idea to reduce the slots for financial reasons- but wouldn't it have been better, if you just did it every other month- one variant and then next a beast? It really feels like the toyline is heading towards it's end if you compare 2012 to 2013.

We are about half way through the original master roadmap (which was extended when we got Filmation rights). You'll just need to wait and see who comes next. If there is enough fan support we'd love to see the line go forever!

    3. Are there any plans for small diorama pieces or even the accessories like Jet Sled for 2013? With the newest weapons pak you have proven that you can indeed use new tooling for those slots instead of repaints only. It would be great- with the reduced slots - to have some items out of the subscription (hey, we can order them before day of sale now as subscribers, that is great! Bring'em on!)

Nothing to announce yet but you never know.

    4. A direct question to Scott: After SDCC- are you glad that you created Spector and not Battleground Teela for the 30th line? We, for our part, are glad, you didn't wear a metal bra! Wouldn't it be cool if you wore a MotU costume every year from now on?

From Toy Guru: "I'm a big fan of Cosplay and I miss dressing up at SDCC. Not sure if I will do that every year but it was a blast!"

    5. There won't be many beasts in 2013, if at all - could you imagine doing two exclusives for SDCC, like a figure and a beast or maybe even a vehicle? You told us, that the SDCC exclusive has more tooling budget than the average figure- wouldn't this be a great way to get more MotU stuff out?

You will just need to wait and see who is released in the quarterly slots! So far we have announced Ram Man an oversized figure and the Fighting Foe Men, a 3 pack.

Although some of us think HordePrime & Laserlot are both AWESOME, we also believe that HP's "red" face and SLL's lack-of-belt look a bit "lacking in detail"... Were they intended to look that way, or was that a cost-cutting option in order to save for more complex figures?

They were intended to look this way.

It was a huge joy for me to have a new MOTU minicomic on after so many years, but exist chance that the next publishing are of a larger size? It's a shame that such wonderful and great illustrations are not appreciated by the size

We did have them drawn at full size but no plans for a reprint that way at this time.

Grayskull Tower represents the people of King Grayskull, Viper Tower to Hssss and his people, who built the Central Tower, whom it represents and why is shaped like a cat?

Keep reading the bios and the mini comics! We aren't about to spill the beans here!

I understand this is looking ahead a little bit but will Matty be having a presence at the New York Comic Con this year past selling the TOD Sorceress? Like will there be reveals or anything of that nature?

We will indeed be at NYCC selling TOD Sorceress and will have reveals like last year.

Is there any other reason besides fans demanding it that sub sales will not be extended this year? Did the extensions last year cause problems with the lines and all or is it just something you don’t want to do this year?

    It helps us streamline sales.

Will any of the subscriptions this year be dependent on a certain number of sales like DCIE was last year, or are they all locked in since you don’t plan to extend? (Editor’s note: I asked this before the **** hit the fan)

All of them are. If we do not get the min for any of them they will be canceled like GB was last year. But we are only running a meter on DC due to MOTUC (up to now) always selling through. But even MOTU can be canceled if we do not get the min number of subs sold.

The new perk of having a subscription is the ability to purchase items prior to the day-of sale. Are these items purchased going to combine shipping with your subscription items? Or will they be separate?

This is something we are constantly working on to improve and we will also have additional shipping options for international fans for 2013.

Does Fang Man have an articulated jaw?

    Yes. And his tongue moves.

Procrustus still appears to use the Tytus buck but there appears to be a lot of improvements to the articulation. Does he have true ball joint shoulders? I see the cut at the bicep but how does the shoulder ball connect to the torso?

We are still confirming this and will have an update as soon as possible. We are still working out costs.

Do you have a price point yet on Strobo? And will he be offered at Power Con and NYCC like last TOD Sorceress this year?

He will be 27.00, the same as “Day of” prices. And yes, he will be at all of our non SDCC shows in 2013. We just have not locked in which shows we are going to yet.
    MOTUClassics.Com

MOTUClassics.Com Asks: In the online pics Castle Grayskullman featured rocky shoulders, but the display figure in the case had smooth shoulders. Which shoulders will the final figure feature?

He will have the Whiplash shoulders.

MOTUClassics.Com Asks: Any long-term plans for the armor & perch for the white/blue Zoar from the Great Unrest Weapons pack? The birds need the perches for display.

Not right now but we will look into it.

MOTUClassics.Com Asks: Looking over Cy-Chop, particularly how his arms are designed and the loops on his belt, it appars he could have interchangeable hands. Are the ‘scissors’ removable? Will he include any extra hands and/or be compatible with previous swappable arm figures?

They are removable and can be interchanged with parts from Trap Jaw, Roboto, Hordak etc… He does not come with a second set of non scissor hands.

Troy asks: Considering the key role Emiliano Santalucia played in creating the Classics line for MOTU, would it be possible to get some kind of credit for him on the packaging, such as ‘Created by Emiliano Santalucia’ – even if it is only on the white mailers under the MOTU logo.

While he created some amazing art for the 2002 DVDs, comics and Staction line, Emilino played absolutely no part whatsoever in the creation of MOTUC at Mattel. He is a talented artist and a big MOTU fan and an all around swell guy, but he did not work on the MOTUC line or have any direct influence on it at any point.

Vito asks: Seeing as how Subscriptions sales are really whats keeping the line going….as you have stated before, well…how does Mattel expect to keep the lines going in this same fashion….and hope to bring on more NEW collector’s and sell more subscriptions, when you are …..a) not re-issuing any new figures ….and b) going through all the CS stock…..with also no plans to reissue any past figures? With past figures going online between $50 – $150, why would anyone hop on board now, almost 100 figures into the MOTU Classics series? Faker was re-issued recently…to think that we will never get an axe and shield for him….well it just hurts.

We keep key characters like He-Man and Skeletor on sale at all times specifically for new customers wanting to start buying in! Reissues on other figures have proven to not be popular enough to keep this going beyond the main characters.

Vito asks: Do you have anything planned for the MOTUC 100th figure? And when adding to 100 figures, would you include the Toys R Us figures? Or would you count them by package i.e…..the Star Sisters count as 1?

Due to the ever changing logistics of figures and shipping delays it is just not possible to pin point exactly which will be the 100th fig. But it should be soon! How cool!

Vito asks: Have we gone through all the CS stock for Roboto, King Randor, Zodak, Shadow Beast and the 2 Weapon packs? I kinda don’t wanna sit here hoping you will release them at a reasonable price again, if you never intend too.

Sorry, we can’t comment on that,. We can say some figures are 100% sold out, others have very limited stock held for upcoming scheduled resales.
    Kastor’s Korner

Kastor’s Korner: The Matty Collector plan has been moving more and more toward subscriptions, and the easiest way to increase subscribers seems to be to incentivize joining the subscription as much as possible for potential customers. As of now, subscribers get their items shipped 1-3 days earlier than day-of purchasers, but have you considered sending out subscriber’s products earlier? It seems like a great incentive to have subscribers receive their items 1-2 weeks before the on-sale date, which would give subscribers a true “first look” at the items, as well as a better chance to rectify any QC issues, so subscribers are given priority regarding a replacement figure instead of getting stuck with a refund and a hole in our collections.

Mattel: We are working on this. It just takes logistics to work out and in 2012 many figures did not arrive early enough to pull this off. But that is the goal.

Kastor’s Korner: Will the next MOTUC female figure to be revealed (possibly at Comic Con) include a corrected pelvis with a return of the hip/ thigh twist fans have been asking for since the Star Sisters’ release?

Mattel: No. Netossa does not include the corrected Pelvis but the next female in 2013 will (if the sub sells well enough to continue MOTUC in 2013).

If Q4 and Q1 2013 will be shown @ SDCC, what will be held back to show for Powercon?

Approx the same month's skus as last year (Q2 2013)

The Mattycollector has undergone a design update/change. Was this intentially done prior to SDCC and sub-sales or just a needed update??

    Yes and yes!

Any update on the My subscription page on mattycollector??

We are working on this and hope to have it up ASAP. Updates to come. You will have total control of your account to change credit card or shipping addresses by this fall in time for 2013.

I love these Q/A's! So much more fun and full of information than anything Hasbro ever did (I believe they've since ceased doing them altogether).

    Just pointing this out...

"We get tooling and resources based on sales and the 2012 [CIE] sub sales (which determine the 2013 budget) were not high enough."

So the current, struggling Club Eternia 2013 sub sales are what is determining 2014 tooling.

That's great to hear that the female figure coiming out after Netossa will have a newly-improved pelvis! I guess with Netossa having a skirt, it won't be as noticable - like Starla.

How can they still be working on Procrustus? He comes out in Dec.

Anyway, these answers seemed very schizo and vague, more so than before.

That gives me hope that the next female figure is Glimmer, unless they really surprise us and do Crita.

Of course it could be Shokoti or Scorpia too.

Wow... I just can't believe my eyes.

Some of those answers show the same disrespect for the consumers and fans as we've seen and witnessed before !

And THIS happens just when the subs are on sale... Bad timing... VERY bad timing, Mattel, EXCEPT if you already know the 2013 will take place, and that the same usual issues will keep coming.

    Re: Netossa

But, but, but ... she has a skirt. I'm 99.9% sure that BP She-Ra has the old hips with the hip/thigh swivel. And doesn't The Sorceress have this as well? From Pixel Dan's pictures, it appears that Frosta has this important point of articulation as well.

Why did Netossa suddenly use the BG Teela thigh piece that was also used on the Star Sisters? I'm hopeful that there was a misunderstanding by Mattel? Maybe they're talking about a newly tooled thigh piece for the next female MOTUC figure?

Lol...yeah, I feel like I'm reading something totally different than a handful of other posters here sometimes, but I guess you can pull whatever you want out of any statement if you try hard enough.

We keep key characters like He-Man and Skeletor on sale at all times specifically for new customers wanting to start buying in! Reissues on other figures have proven to not be popular enough to keep this going beyond the main characters.
I think it would be cool if Matty released four 4-Packs & kept Battle Cat & Panthor around to help get new customers.

    Pack 1: He-Man, Mekaneck, Zodac, Ram-Man

Pack 2: Skeletor, Beastman, Merman, Whiplash

    Pack 3: Man-At-Arms, Stratos, Teela, Man-E-Faces

Pack 4: Evil-Lyn, Trap Jaw, Triclops, Faker
    I want my other half.
