Very interesting article, I agree with a lot of their ideas, with just 2 main issues that my opinion diverges on. First, I don't consider the 87 movie in as low regard as IGN, and Ryan Gosling as He-Man? I don't think so!
Alot of good point were made, but back in the '80s the cgi wasn't used that much nor wasn't very good. Hopefuly the new movie will be much better.

Obey the whip!
Smile like you mean it.
If Gosling goes Grayskull I riot. No freakin way. Not even for the Prince Adam sections. It's Masters of the Universe not Mickey Mouse Club or even the flippin notebook. First idea should be Ryan Reynolds if yer going for mildly credible actors for Adam/He-Man. Oy vey.
I also agree with most of the article. If they could pull of a trilogy, they could introduce Hordak as a hidden scene mid-credits for a possible second movie. And at the end of the second movie King Hisss. It would be also cool to tie in a She-Ra movie in a way. They could build up the universe similar than Marvel did it with Iron Man/Avengers. Would be great!!
People are too unkind to the original film. It wasn't exactly the MOTU experience I wanted for a live-action movie, but it had a lot to offer. Compare it to the bone-headed Transformer films which, for all their gloss, are shockingly bad (the bizarrely lauded third instalment, especially) but win people over with their ex-plo-shuns and & visuals. MOTU has plenty of charm and does try to tell a coherent story
Thanks to Retaliation's delay I have no experience of Chu's abilites at all, but I actually think someone who can choreograph fast-paced dance moves may be ideal for a film needing sword-play & heavy stunt work.
All I ask is he doesn't go mad with CGI - Not a fan, at all. I hope the new movie tries to keep as many things 'real' as it possibly can... One of many things I loved about PROMETHEUS was Ridley Scott's reliance on actual, physical sets. They add a level of versimilitude that's impossible to replicate in a computer. Even if the Star Wars prequels had been gifted with decent scripts (Ho!), the atmosphere was killed with bland, pastel-hued CGI.

Guys, Ryan Gosling was AWESOME in Drive. If you have not seen Drive, do yourself a favor and rent it. Forget about The Notebook, Gosling is up-and-coming, he's going to be a star. Now as far as playing He-Man, he'd have to beef up, but I wouldn't be totally opposed to seeing him in the role.
And as much as I think Chris Hemsworth looks the part, don't you all think he'd be a little TOO obvious? Plus with the Thor role, I think unwelcome comparisons would always be made.
Please don't let Dwayne Johnson play He-Man though, or even be in the movie. I actually like "The Rock" a lot, but his presence would just overshadow everything else in a MOTU movie.
Edit, more to say:
So how do fans want the film to look? Realistic like LOTR, very stylized like 300, fanciful like Burton's Alice in Wonderland? I think to make some of the really wild characters and settings work on screen, they almost couldn't do something like LOTR. I'd like to see a Filmation inspired aesthetic that combines techniques seen in 300 and Alice in Wonderland. Stylized, vibrant worlds and characters filled with color, not a film that's all browns, greens and greys like Wrath of the Titans.

The article seems fair enough. I agree that the film should play up both the fantasy and sci-fi angles and set itself apart from films in either category and that it shouldn't bee too light or dark (and no talking Battlecat).
Honestly I wouldn't say no to the Rock being in the film and frankly with someone like Chu on board and the current status of MOTU as a franchise, I think we'd be lucky to get someone like him on board, but not as He-man. I want the blonde Prince Adam/He-man. Though I think Rock could make a decent Master (maybe Buzz-off) or maybe even one of Skeletor's henchmen like Tri-Klops, but I don't want him as the star in this film.
If Ryan Gosling were to play He-Man, or any role in a MOTU movie, I would wet myself. That is all.
Haha, I was just about to post this...![]()

Is that good or bad?
I do agree that The Rock should be allowed nowhere near He-Man. Don’t get me wrong, I like him as an actor and I dig his screen presence, but he would just overshadow the whole film. It wouldn’t really be He-Man you’re watching, it would be Dwayne Johnson.
Still think Liam Hemsworth (Thor's younger brother) should play Adam/He-Man. He's got the looks, the build and the acting chops. He's also very young and needs his own vehicle like his brother. I really think he could be good for the part.
In terms of the look of the film, Chu seems to have injected the GI Joe sequel with a very “real” and “gritty” pallet and style. It’s more evident when you compare it to how the first film looks. I’m not saying he would do the same for MOTU, but I wouldn’t put it past him.
Myself, I would prefer a more operatic and pantomime quality. All the good places to look good, bright and fluffy, and all the bad places to look nasty, dark and foreboding. I don't think we'll get that, though.
These days, "realistic" and "gritty" seem to mean "contemporary". I fear that, in order not to alienate the audience (well, the dimmer ones anyway), they'll make Eternia just like Earth but with a few more dragons. Me, I love Filmation Eternia precisely because it's 'alien' (in the truest sense of the word), magical and just... different. I know that capturing the exact look of the cartoon would not be wise in a live-action context, but they have to do something to set it apart from Narnia, Middle Earth or any of those filmed in Canada SyFy channel 'epics'...

I give total props to Gosling for his other films. I did watch them and they were top notch. But I hated him in Young Hercules the series and he could have done so much with that. And he could very well be a credible enough action star. But I do not find credibility in him being involved with the Masters universe unless it is a different role altogether. If Dwayne Johnson is in He-Man I would love to see which role he claims. It won't be He-Man that is for sure, but I could see them doing something else with Dwayne's talents. Liam Hemsworth could be an incredible He-Man. I would pay to see that. Let's see him bring respect back to the He-Man verse. Dolph so needs to be Randor or some other kind of king in the upcoming movie. As long as it's a good enough written role, Dolph could pass this torch with ease. And he co-stars with Liam in Expendables 2 this year, so it could insanely work out. Although I'm sorry, Jessica Biel should not be in this movie. She's a talented actress and can hold her own action film wise, but I don't think Teela would fit her. She's established, so let's give the role to someone more up and coming.
I found this article a bit contradicting.
It also askes alot of questions, without seeming to be concerned with the answers.
..and,, uh,, I am ready to direct now.
(I wouldnt want to rush production or anything, but I can start work on the Masters movies any time.)
