It looks like MOTUC may outlast the vintage line

So for all intents and purposes MOTUC kicked off around late '08/beginning of '09, and we're guaranteed more of it thru '13, and then Toyguru said we're likely to see more of it in '14.

As such, that's 5 years. Now, if we get some more sporadic releases after that, it will officially go beyond 5 years, and past the length of the vintage line.

    How d'ya like that?

1st figure was king gray skull at 2008 sdcc. I believe a prototype was shown at the 2007 sdcc

King Grayskull was first in July 2008, then He-Man and Beast Man were next in December 2008. 2009 was the first full year. So, 2009-2013 equals five years.

This line has already surpassed all it's previous incarnations by a whole lot of benchmarks, but I don't think this will be the "greatest" line. That one is yet to come.

The vintage line went from '82-'88 if you include the tail-end Laser Power/Laser Light figures which were released in Europe in '88.

This is MOTU's (the way we know it) last stand. I think other incarnations will pop up, especially if a movie is released and is big with kids. But having another shot at vintage looking MOTU, POP, and NA...this is it. This is why we need to fight to keep this line around as long as we can.

If we support it, it will last beyond next year. I would hope Mattel has learned some things from this years sub sale issue and adjusts its game plan to simply meet demand rather than try to expand the line so quickly with concepts and brand new stuff which i believe has been a major drain on the life of the line even though there have been some cool things released. I think that if Mattel follows a 2009/2010 model without overwhelming fans it will last. Either way, im going to do what i can to see the line continue instead of finding reasons why can end.

Actually that's four years. But we know it will continue in some way in '14.

And we'll probably get a little more out of it in '15.

So yeah, I could see it surpassing the vintage line, even if only by a couple years.

I also think it continuing in dribs and drabs like JLU is very possible too. We'll see.

Think of it like birthdays, a year isn't a year until it ends. December 1st 2013 will mark 5 full years of MOTUC, since 12/1/08 was the first official monthly sale. You're not a year old, the year you were born, but the whole next year, you are 1 year old. The line as it is is still 3 years old, technically, it won't be 4 years until Dec 2012.

But I do believe MOTUC is the best MOTU lines I'll ever see, I don't like anything between the Vintage MOTU until now, NA, 200X I never got into, never liked, and to be honest, I will never collect another MOTU line after this, unless the figures are phenomenal and accurate to scale, I never liked the out of proportion vein popping 200X line at all, I never heard of NA until recently, and I never collected POP, because, well they were dolls. I watched girl shows, but never owned any toys.

Yeah, it might outlast the vintage line, and I have the hope that this line will keep going AFTER 2014. That's also why it would be a crying shame if all the vintage figures have not been released when MOTUC ends. I wouldn't like that Mighty Spector was released, but not Mantenna !

I don't think MOTU will ever die because of this one respect. it will allways live in our minds vividly. as the greatest idea, fantastic concept. all ways loved the idea allways fantasized about being He man. or emulateing him. still do at the age of 39 guilty plearsure. I think I can speak for allmost anyone on these fourums.when I say.

if I won the lottery or the manny of us. we would help out the MOTUC via donaitions. and or create there own toy line. in that sence MOTU could aways be recreated reborn in a different form. or try to buy the copyrights.but anyways, I belive we all have to remember who we are. [die hard fans] for anything MOTU. remember that and support MOTUC faithfully.

and we will aways have these fourums to disscus how it all went down in history. and be very amused and thrilled to be a part of this great collective, of good people.on these fourums for many years to come we just have to be steadfast make our voices heard like we did for the 2013 sub.

Separate sub, separate margins, separate profits/losses. I sometimes agree with you, but you can't hate on Spector when he wasn't even part of the same sub. Also, he allegedly sold well, so that is a plus. Mantenna needs more tooling.

Of course I can ! Please remember that I don't have a sub. It means that, to me, a figure is a figure, not a part of a sub.

I took the example of Spector, but I could have taken Vykron or Cy-Chop, who both look as lame to me...

Sure, Mantenna needs new tooling. That's one of the many reasons why Mattel should hurry and release him as soon as possible !

We might never see some of these characters in MOTU media ever again. The standard MOTU 8 or 12 back will return for the fourth time for movies or another relaunch of the brand, but all of these other concepts are most likely done. MOTU will probably cut a ton of characters to ensure it's success. C and D list vintage characters, most POP characters except for She-Ra, all of NA, 200X/MYP worst characters or variants all together and obscure mini-comic characters or concepts might never be seen again.

I'd be more impressed with the 5-year run if it was a completely new series filled with new characters that were never heard of before. As it is, I believe MOTUC's success is greatly dependent upon the memories and popularity of the original MOTU vintage series.

Not that I'm dogging MOTUC. MOTUC is a good line with many great action figures and sculpts. It has many merits and achievements of its own. But the longevity of the MOTUC toyline is invariable tied to the vintage one.

Plus, since MOTUC incorporates characters from the other lines (POP, NA and 200x) you would also have to add the years those lines lasted to the grand total. So MOTUC would probably have to last closer to 10 years for it to equal the original runs.

It won't outlast the vintage line until all the figures,beasts/vehicles & some playlets are made. At least the figures. In terms of years sure. But not even close to actually finishing the vintage figures. That's what most fans want to see happen. Sure I like 200x,concept,mini comic & some POP characters. But let's face it. I want all my vintage figures to come to life in the Classics line.

I think Classics has to get to all of the characters from the original 80's MOTU, POP and NA lines or fans would consider it as incomplete as the 200X line. It's a new day where not even the Wind Raider can sell out, so Classics shouldn't be held to reaching all of the vehicles and playsets, due to the now adult attitudes of the fans (not enough space, don't collect vehicles, etc.).
