Yes, but dark humor is still thus. It just knicks a little too close to the bone for me, especially when taken as a wink-wink when it fact it nearly became fact. But I don't want to blow this out of proportion. I can laugh along with the rest of fandom. I just wish it didn't have to be nervous shifty-eyed laughter is all.

What does "taken for the ass" even mean? I never understand it when people use it. "Taken for an ass" would make more sense to me.

I was here for the "taken for the ass" post (hilarious, btw) but had always wondered about the "killen" meme. Now I know! There should be a sticky explaining both to those who weren't around, since neither phrase is going away lol.

"Killen teh lien" was a hilarious YouTube-like response several years before YouTube existed.

an italian user wrote that. He pretty much translated literally an italian expression that means "dont tease me!" or "stop playing with me!" and that was the traduction.

Every time this abomination of the language is used, somewhere, an English teacher dies...

"Taken for the ass," on the other hand, ranks up there with Shakespeare and Euripides.
More like Lewis Carrol: "`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves, Did gyre and gimble in the wabe." TFTA makes about as much sense, as I have no clue what the person was really trying to say...

I can seriously get behind the use of "TFTA" to describe the sentiment of "taken for the ass." "Adam dies and The Mighty Spector uses the power sword to turn into He-Man? What have they done to my childhood?!? That's totally TFTA!" Maybe I'm still not using it right.

    I don't think you are

TFTA impies that Mattel are ripping us off - that they are "killin teh lien" by treating us disrespectfully - that is, taking us only for our asses.

That's kind of what I meant. Characters like Spector and SLL are TFTA because they kill teh lien. "TFTA": an adjective that describes something that leaves you feeling like you've been taken for the ass.

I recant. You do indeed give a good example of that "taken for the ass" feeling

I believe we have a good understanding of KTL & TFTA & the seperate origins, thereof.

    Thanks everyone for your help

I usually abhor Internet memes (especially ones with bad spelling), but somebody needs to do a MOTU version of the 'Get to the Choppah!' baby for 'Killin teh lien.' Then again, this IS the Internet, so for all I know, someone's made one already...
