MOTU Redesign Challenge #103: Sir Laser Lot!!!

WELCOME ONE & ALL TO THE 103RD REDESIGN CHALLENGE !

All right folks, here we are. The chance to take on one of the newest members of the MOTU family

SIR LASER LOT!

This new addition to our favorite toy line... lets just say it... has created some controversy within the MOTU fan base.
It may be said, that as MOTU fans, we have a tough "voting-in" process for the new guys who want to Join He-Man in the battle for Eternia.
We love the campy stories we know and the nostalgic characters we grew up with; but when it comes to accepting a new addition, our keen eyes and protective hearts are poised towards preserving the quality of our already brilliant alien-medieval-tech Universe of virtuous heroes and diabolical villains.

For one, I will say that I like the idea of Sir Laser Lot, but as an artist, I see much room for improvement to truly make his design worthy of being called MOTU!

But, whether you love him or hate him, here is your chance to put your artistic talents to work to show the MOTU Fan World what you believe would make Sir Laser Lot a crazy-awesome addition to the defenders of Eternia!








Sir Laser Lot is the new face of MOTU, on the front cover of the #1 issue of the new DC digital Masters Of The Universe comic!
LETS MAKE HIM GREAT!


HERE WE GO!!!!

- All people who choose to participate will have 1.5 months to come up with a redesign for this character.

-You can use ANY medium you wish! You can sketch, paint, make a 3-D model,
render a sprite, create a custom action figure, whatever you want. Its entirely up to you!

-You don't have to force yourself to make your design conform to the new OR OLD cartoon & comic book's style.
Be as drastic in your redesign as you see fit. Whatever makes you happy! All that is required is that you add something ALL-NEW to the character's appearance,
however big or small.

-If you can't think of a new design, or just hate the idea of working on this character,
you do not have to feel obligated to participate in this particular challenge.
You will still be free to participate in any future challenges you wish.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS OCTOBER 31ST!!!

Not happy with this picture, but here are all elements I wanted to add to Laser-lot: a cloack that is made from scales of big preternian lizard, scalemail style detail in blue parts, coat of arms in his shield and moving visor in his helmet.

Here is my entry. He is a living laser and his suit of armor helps contain him. Also, his weapons are made of laser with the exceptions of the handles. They are like light sabers in that manner. Finally, Crystals of Talmadge on chest and helm can fire lasers. Gave hime a lance since he is a knight. Created in HeroMachine.

You remind me why I am sooooo glad we allow Hero Machine renditions in the challenge. Charlie Brown too. He looks awesome!

When this challengeis over, I will personally make sure that the creators of the DC digital comic book see these pieces!

Speaking of "awesome", Merman and Karatti are in the lead for the next potential redesign challenge subjects in the poll. My two personal favorite options. I voted for Karatti...he has been off the radar for so long, and with the lizard-person concept that he is...its time to make him look like a worthy MOTU character with te talent in these challenges. I can't wait till he is a MOTUC.

Zargon: that's wicked! Knight, that is a light saber! i just wonder what kind of noise sir Laser Lot makes when he just moves to scene. Good concept!

Pyre: Idea of scale armour come because his armor is just too dull. If Laser-Lot is knight, why he's using body stockings? Cape was influenced by preternia. I had an image of really gory Preternian knight, cutting his path trought the lines of monster like dinosaurs. Cape would be an trophy and it could give some extra armour. Here's updated picture:

Okay, I haven't been very active on the re-design stuff round here, not just because of Predabot leaving it, but I've been too busy with my other projects. But I gotta give Laser Lot a try, one of those characters when I first saw it thought, "A laser knight and he has no Jack Kirby inspired features!? Shame on you Johns!" So I'm throwing my lot in for the first time under new management for this one. Plus I think I got more time to finish then before .

Ok so a few of my thoughts / ideas for my redesign.

1. I decided to make his armor more medieval and detailed as I felt the original toy was just so bland being a big block of blue with a few red bits.

2. I decided to make his shield red instead of blue as I thought it would be made of the same energy as his sword and plume

3. I lost his cape because I wanted him to look less like a medieval Superman and because a cape just didn't work with the look I was going for.
