Its good to finally have confirmation that talks are taking place. After reading that interview I will be shocked if the original actors don’t return to reprise their roles. The fact that he said Lucas proposed to write them out of the script if they didn’t return tells me their roles are fairly small. I imagine that Luke will probably have the biggest role out of all the original characters, though.
So Mark Hamil is proposing a Salacious B. Crumb movie? I would not oppose this.

It totally is starting to sound like Star Wars is going to be getting the complete Disney treatment what with all of these ideas of spin off movies floating about. I'm waiting for the animated Star Wars musical movie next with Salacious Crumb as the wise cracking sidekick voiced by Chevy Chase.

You sound as if Star Wars wasn't always silly and childish before the disney purchase. The original trilogy, which most guys in their thirties & fourties say is the only good Star Wars movies, where made for children. Which would kinda explain the following......

    1.Rubber comical puppets.
2.A hand puppet almost eating a ship.
    3.Teddy Bears
    4.Funny robots
    5.Space Pirates and laser swords.

But lets hope Disney don't make it too childish.... LOL

Interesting enough in regards to the handpuppets which were done by Jim Henson, both Henson and Disney originally started using their mediums of choice (puppets, animation) for adults, but in a way that if kids came across it there wouldn't be OMG you won't believe what my kid was watching last night. Kind of like what happened with Anime in the 80s, someone heard that in Japan they make animated porn so all animation from Japan must be porn.

How much of a role she'll play is as yet to be determined, from what it sounds like. I hope the new films don't try to bring the 'New Jedi Order' books into live action. The ending to those books sucked!! I'd rather the new films distance themselves from as much of the 'expanded universe' as possible when it comes to the rotten storylines that have been conceived.

Examples such as Emperor Palpatine returning as both a clone and a ghost in the Dark Horse Comics and Jacen Solo, the notorious Jedi pacifist, becomes a demi-god at the end of NJO which spoils the book by tying up loose ends in a very rushed, very lame way.

    They're In

Lucas of all people seems to have confirmed it to Bloomberg Business Week, then he back tracks. This is the full article talking about the buyout: http://www.businessweek.com/articles...-for-star-wars

This is the quote from Lucas all but confirming "The Big Three's" return:

Asked whether members of the original Star Wars cast will appear in Episode VII and if he called them before the deal closed to keep them informed, Lucas says, “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ ” He pauses. “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then he adds: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”
That should be enough to put all the rumors and whatnot to bed, IMO. Now we're just waiting for an official confirmation. The main article itself is very interesting, so I recommend giving it a read.

Oh God no! Keep him away as well as all the other well known-overexposed actors we have these days. Personally I would like brand new faces in the new trilogy as well as a few "proper" actors.

I like the Rock (for his wrestling career, not his acting). If he's willing to wear a mask and have his voice dubbed over, ala Dave Prowse (David Vader) & Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), then i'm happy for him to be a part of it.

Otherwise, seeing Mr. Dwayne "If Ya Smell What The Rock Is Cooking" Johnson show up In A Galaxy Far, Far Away would seem too out of place, as it would basically be a celebrity cameo. Even just hearing his voice on Transformers: Prime was a distraction for me.

The Rock isn't a horrible actor, but he would stick out. Of course I thought Samuel Jackson was going to stick out horribly but he didn't much. But The Rock is great size for a Wookie.

Aww, come on, Johnson has already been in Star Trek, so why not Star Wars. Abrams seems to think he can do it, so why not? LOL

Yes, tell him NO!!!! Capital N and Capital O!!! Wrestlers are actors of a different genre and don't belong in Star Wars movies unless Lucas and Disney want the new films to be flops.

OOT finally coming to blu-ray? The Force.net:

Rumor: Disney Mulling New Release Of Unaltered Original Trilogy

As San Diego Comic-Con winds down, Bill Hunt of entertainment website The Digital Bits shared an interesting rumor on his Facebook page:

Something else discussed among industry friends at the Con this year: the likelihood of original unaltered Star Wars trilogy finally being released on disc in high quality now that Disney is driving the Falcon. Concensus is it's quite likely leading up to new films.

It's certainly not surprising to hear that Disney is considering doing this. They'll want to milk the existing movies for all that they're worth. The only question is how soon Disney can acquire the rights to A New Hope, which -- unlike the other five films -- 20th Century Fox currently owns in perpetuity. Disney won't want to re-release the unaltered versions of two-thirds of the Original Trilogy, so any such release would be tied to a transfer of Episode IV's distribution rights.

Weren't there multiple versions of the original Star Wars? I seem to remember the earliest version didn't say Episode IV in the opening crawl, but it was added before the Special Editions came. I'm sure Fox owns them all though, so the problem is there. I don't mind the SE's, I just think some of the changes suck. Greedo shooting first, the awkward Jabba scene, and the loss of yub yub from RotJ were all annoying to me.

Also the latest rumor is JJ Abrams may step down as director. There are supposedly several reasons, but the only one I found on Collider was that he doesn't want to relocate to the UK for the shoot. I suspect that 2015 release date ain't happening either way. They've got Avengers 2 as a tentpole for that year anyway and if Hollywood should learn anything from this summer, it's that we get worn out. I was done after MoS. I still haven't seen Pacific Rim, Lone Ranger, or RIPD and I'd wanted to see all of them. Too much stuff going on to make the time to see yet more CG property damage. Of course I'd cut something else before I cut Star Wars, but that's me.

Episode IV was added to the home release, the theatrical didn't have it as they weren't sure how well the movie was going to do at the time. Also I recall a few scenes had to be redone somehow or something.

Actually "Episode IV" first appeared in front of the movie during a theatrical re-release in 1981 (the first VHS release was in '82). This was after the release of "Empire," so technically that was the first movie to be shown with an episode number in front of it.

I've heard that there supposedly was other minor variations here and there (I think I remember hearing that the scene with Luke's friend Biggs that was added back in for the 1997 Special Edition was originally in some previous cut of the film, but don't quote me on that).

But in the grand scheme of things, it was 99.9% the same film up until the changes started with the 1997 release and continued with the subsequent DVD and Blu-Ray releases. I'll be happy with pretty much any PRE-1997 version of the film... episode number or not... other minor variations or not.

Despite the disappointment in a proper restoration not being done, I was actually very surprised when the theatrical edition of the original film was released on DVD in 2006 (as a 'bonus' disc with the individual releases of the then-newly updated DVD versions from 2004) and it did not have "Episode IV" in front of it. All previous home video releases that I had ever seen included it, so that was cool to see.

While it would be silly for such a small amount of text, it would be cool if they were to release a Blu-Ray of the original version with a seemless branching option to choose between having and not having the episode number in front of it.

As for the concern over Fox owning the original film (and I believe having distribution rights of the other 5 films for the next several years), I'm sure Disney and Fox will find some way to work together on this. Fox has worked with Lucasfilm for all previous releases of the movies, and now it just so happens that Disney owns Lucasfilm. Granted I can see where Disney may want to self-distribute the future films and may even want to do the same with the older ones, but I'm sure some kind of agreement/deal will be reached at some point, whether it's Disney buying out Fox's rights, or the two companies working together on future releases, box sets, etc. Both companies are in the business of making money, and Star Wars is a huge cash-cow. They will find a way to work together for at least that reason alone if no other.

Even beyond releasing the original versions (which I do very, VERY much want), there's a few other things that I'd like to see happen as well.

Despite the controversy over the changes over the years, it would be cool if they were to release some kind of "ultimate set" that included all of the varations of the films... the original versions, the 1997 theatrical special editions, and the versions from the 2004 DVD and 2011 Blu-Ray release. They could use seemless braching where possible and applicable (i.e. probably with the 2004 and 2011 versions at minimum), but in some cases the changes are so substantial even in subtle ways that the versions would have to be on separate discs.

Moreover, I'd really like them to fix the horrible color timing errors that originated in the 2004 DVD release and for the most part carried over into the 2011 Blu-Ray release. These are problems with the overall color timing of all 3 OT films in their entirety... this is not specific only to scenes with "special edition" changes. The contrast was darkened quite a bit and the overall color timing is quite off. This problem actually was NOT present in the 1997 Special Edition versions.

This article details many of the problems:

    http://savestarwars.com/specialeditionfail.html

There is a lot of contravene over whether or not this was intentional or an unintended error from rushing the films out to DVD in 2004 (supposedly Lucas wanted to wait longer to release them, but bootlegging of the films pushed them to get them out sooner). The "official" stance is that this was done intentionally for "artistic reasons," but many believe that it was due to it being a rush job and that after it was done and released, it would have been too expensive to go back and remaster the whole thing.

There was a lot of hope that this would be properly fixed for the 2011 Blu-Ray, but for the most part that ended up not being the case. Rather than properly fixing the color timing of the films, they just had ILM go in and individually fixed some of the most glaring errors (most involving light sabers) for the Blu-Ray release. For example, the shot shown in the above article from "Return of the Jedi" where Luke and Vader have their light sabers crossed was corrected. But other light saber shots still have wrong or inconsistent coloring, and the overall "tingy", off look is still there (complete with the "lobster men" shown in the above link).

It would be nice to get these things fixed once and for all.

It would also be cool (though I admit unrealistic) if they could somehow do an Ultimate version with Seemless branching that allows you to pick between different versions of some of the most noticable and (at least in some cases) controversial changes. There would be a set up menu, and you can pick whether or not Jabba shows up in ANH and if so, which version of the CGI Jabba shows up (he was updated for the 2004 for release). You can pick whether Han or Greedo shoots first, which version of the Emperor appears in "Empire Strikes Back", the musical number in "Jedi", whether or not Vader yells "Nooooooo!" in Jedi, etc.

I know it won't happen, but it would be a dream come true in many ways. It would be a great way to experience what the less intrusive updates and enhancements bring to the films without having to sit through the things that drive some people nuts.

I don't understand why they can't do an "Ultimate" set either. Both Blade Runner and Close Encounters of the Third Kind got this treatment, with the former getting a blu-ray with 5 different versions and the latter getting a blu release with 3 versions.
