    She-Ra Princess of Power Bookmarks

Anybody remember the activity books that had the bookmarks you could color & make? I love to read & love to have bookmarks that are interesting. The activity page I'm thinking of is this one below but I thought Adora simply standing there with an open book was a little lame.

Anyway so I thought I'd draw my own illustration for a custom bookmark. Here's my original line art
    For the honor of Grayskull.jpg

Then I proceeded to add some colors & a background. I made 2 alternate versions coz I wasn't sure which one was better...I have also thought to do the flipside of the bookmarks with She-Ra holding up her sword after the transformation process. Haven't started on the flipside though, but bookmarks don't really need to have a flipside. Reading is so much more fun when you have a cool bookmark

Here are my 2 bookmark versions:

those are really great! i remember the bookmarks from my coloring book as a kid. i like your adora ones very much. as for reverse-sides, maybe the two you have already could be two sides of the same one!

So, would you ever want to be a model?
No way. I mean, I want to lose weight, but not all of it. -- Jessi

Thanks. I'm glad you like them. A compliment from you means a lot to me, my friend It's funny but sometimes I have like 3 or 4 books that I'm reading at the same time depending on whatever takes my fancy & I prefer using bookmarks rather than dog-earring pages in books. And whenever I've looked to buy one from shops they're usually silly, lame or boring. We got a photo grade HP color printer from my sister-in-law when she moved house recently. It's one of those ones that can do prints on matt or glossy photo paper. I just need to print these out on that & get it laminated. I always get great satisfaction from creating something nice & functional In fact I might even do a whole series of bookmarks with different characters

And you know, I could have these 2 as flipsides. That only briefly flashed through my mind last night

Thanks so much for the feedback. The unreadable ant line below Adora's feet on the bookmarks is actually my signature tag line and whilst it's obvious in the original sized clip art version, it's unreadable in the reduced size version. So I thought perhaps something like this was more appropriate.

I have the original full size clip art that I made to use for these bookmarks uploaded in my DA gallery. If you're interested in using it, feel free to download, all I ask is that you credit me in your description if & when you upload to share your finished work. If you wish to color the line art yourself, I have also uploaded the uncolored line art http://cosmicfalcon-70.deviantart.co...-Art-337443327

Your art is across-the-board terrific - I've always liked it and love your bookmark idea!

That said...does the curve around Adora's....um...area...seem a little too curvy? As in "suggestive of something under the fabric"?

I know the design has a curve there, but it's slight. For whatever reason in this image it seems more prominent. Is she trying to change more than just her clothes?

Thanks for the feedback DisneyBoy...I'm so pleased that someone other than me still has an appreciation for reading & bookmarks. And yeah, she does look a little too curvy but to be honest it did look fine to me when I deemed the picture complete & uploaded. I guess that's what you get when you do fan art at 2am after annoying bouts of insomnia...perhaps I should have waited to upload after lookin' at it again with fresh eyes after some decent sleep.

I do tend to draw clothes on my characters with the slight curve as the fabric goes around parts of the body (I've been spending too much time doing fashion drawings from Jem & The Holograms), so that curve around her thigh & bottom area is simply the bodysuit curving around her body. I guess it's more obvious what I'm trying to do from the original size uncolored line art but the colored reduced size bookmark version does make her look as though she has more padding. In the original line art, I had tossed up the idea of making the bodysuit a little more realistic & adding a zipper that does up the front maybe. But then I thought perhaps that that middle line on her bodice was just stitching of the 2 halves of the fabric & that the bodysuit actually did up at the back. I guess I was trying to tackle the drawing from a costume fashion perspective. There is also the accuracy factor & plausibility...Etheria tends to be a Medieval style planet in terms of the villages, towns & buildings with thatched roofs. The fashions of most of the villagers & peasants tend be laced up as in before the invention of buttons, zippers & velcro...but then again you have this advanced technology aspect of Horde science. All these things were going through my mind as I was drawing the original line art & then I couldn't make up my mind which way to go & what to emphasize in the artwork but I'd done a fair bit on it & gone a fair way to having a complete picture & I didn't want to just scrap the whole thing. Anyway, I hope this explanation makes some sort of sense & answers your question
